Advantages: Unusual, very potent, long lasting, distinctive, range of formats
Disadvantages: Quite strong if you use too much, expensive
Without a doubt, this is my all time favourite perfume. Named after Hermes flagship store at 24, Faubourg in Paris and the perfume of choice of Detective Kay Scarpetta in The Last Precinct by Patricia Cornwell I found it whilst browsing the counters armed with testing wands at Gatwick a few years ago. Despite being overloaded with heady aromas from hundreds of perfumes in the shop (and smelling like a tarts boudoir on the flight to Florida much to the dismay of those lucky enough to be sitting near to me,) it stood out as something special above all the others.
Created by Hermes in 1985, it's certainly not the cheapest scent around, approx £31.50 for 30ml EDT or £40.00 for 30ml EDP but in my opinion well worth the extra hard earned pennies. Described as "a timeless and treasured fragrance, a warm floral scent that evokes the most intimate aspects of feminine sensuality and sophistication," it's more a scent to wear at night or for special occasions. Iit's powerful, sexy and distinctive - you certainly don't need more than a little spritz on your wrists and decolletage! I have found that it lasts well too - probably due to it's potency.
Wearing it, I feel very grown up and that extra bit special, people often comment that it's gorgeous and ask me what it it - it's unlike any other fragrance and no-one tends to recognise it which gives it that extra mystery factor. It certainly does evoke images of Hermes silk scarves and expensive clothes & leather handbags. The complex fragrance includes top notes of Jasmine, ylang-ylang and patchouli, middle notes of sandalwood, amber and oakmoss and a base of vanilla musk and amber. Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous!
On shopping around I have found it to be available as an EDT, EDP and in various other guises such as deodorant, body cream and soap.
The glass bottle is square, and etched with a floral design - it has a simple round golden top to cover the squirter. It's simple, but expensive looking, and would look good on any dressing table. The box is orange and yellow with the etched design on it, and the Hermes logo and brand name on the front.
I really do adore this perfume and highly recommend it as something very special!
Summary: A timeless classic, ideal as a special perfume for evening or special occasion wear.
