One night when we were having a family night out my cousin was getting ready at my house and she sprayed a body mist which just smelled absolutely gorgeous! I asked her what it was and she told me that it was a spray from the trendy store Hollister. I vowed that I would treat myself to some at some point and a few weeks ago I did just that. I purchased two of the sprays in different fragrances but for the purpose of this review I will focus on the one that is my favourite. The body mist I am focussing on is called crescent bay.
The body mist comes in a clear plastic bottle which is recyclable. On the front of the bottle there is a label which features pictures of large pink flowers as well as the Hollister name and logo. Through the bottle you can see the body mist which is also a lovely pink colour and so it looks lovely on my dressing table! I love the fact that I can see through the bottle to see how much of the product is left because I really do adore this product and I don't really want to run out of it!
Hollister say that this scent "conditions and cools with aloe vera. Juicy watermelon and and California poppy come together to create a brilliant playful scent". The main notes in the fragrance are as expected watermelon, poppy and sugary woods and when I smell it the main scent that I do notice is the watermelon which really is quite strong and fruity. What I also notice from the scent though is that it is a really sweet fragrance which I just love. When I spray this body mist on myself I do immediately feel a bit uplifted as it reminds me of warmer weather, the sunshine and fun basically.
The body spray is dispensed through a spray at the top of the bottle and I find that with just one push of the spray a good amount of the body mist comes out and so you don't have to use too much on each occasion when you are using it. Sometimes I spray the product directly on to my skin once I have had a bath and used the matching shower gel and this helps to really linger the fragrance. I also spray it on to my clothes sometimes instead of perfume or I will spray it up in the air and just walk in to it so that it goes on to my hair as well.
The scent of the fragrance lasts well and I have been complimented on the fragrance when I have been wearing it. I would have liked it to last more than a few hours but this is a body mist not a perfume and so I don't really think expecting it to be noticable all day long is reasonable.
A 250ml bottle of Hollister body mist costs £12.00 in store or online which is obviously expensive for this kind of product! They are usually on a three for £24 offer though which makes them a more reasonable price I think and they do have matching bath products in some of the fragrances if you want a really indulgent treat.
I would definitely recommend the Crescent Bay fragrance from Hollister as it is a really sweet, fruity and summery fragrance which makes me feel good. I also like the Flippers Beach fragrance which is orange, jasmine and vanilla bean. I would recommend heading in to a store and smelling the fragrances and I am sure there would be something that you would like!
Thank you for reading my review!
I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the Hollister clothing store. I absolutely love the clothing, the cardigans are gorgeous and some of my favourite items and they do fit me but some of the clothes you need to be about 15 years of age and the size of a twig to wear. also it is always so loud in there and so dark that you can hardly see the clothes that you are trying on, I guess I must be getting old.
This thought is backed up by an article I read about the company. I quote, "Hollister Co., sometimes advertised as Hollister or HCo., is an American lifestyle brand by Abercrombie & Fitch Co. The concept was originally designed to attract consumers aged 14-18, at a lower price point than the parent brand through its SoCal-inspired image and casual wear.
I like the Southern California connection too as I used to live there so I do like the vibe and feel of the surf inspired philosophy. Another thing I like about the store is that is always smells good and it's this smell that led me to find these gorgeous body mists.
They sell a few different smells and what I like about them is that they are named after different areas and beaches in Southern California. I picked the Laguna Beach fragrance purely because I used to hang out in Laguna quite a bit and love the area, oh and I like the fragrance too.
This body mist is said to condition and cool with aloe Vera. It is a mixture of peach, freesia and coconut milk, combined to create a bright and refreshing scent. The smell is absolutely gorgeous. It has a lovely fruity scent but then you are hit with this lovely sweet coconut smell. It's like you can smell the sweet smell of the beach when you are wearing it and I love how it makes me feel. It is really quite uplifting and lift. The fragrance comes in a little bottle and is in liquid form so when you spray it out it falls over your body like a mist, hence the name. I find I this way I can get a good coverage all over my body and the scent does last a long time. It's not as strong as wearing a perfume, it's just like a body spray but I think the fact that it is liquid enables it to fall on your skin and sink it.
An 8.4 fl oz bottle costs £12 and is available from Hollister stores and on the Internet.
I should begin this review by saying that this is not something I would have ever thought of purchasing ordinarily. I tend to dislike these trendy (and expensive) big name brand products such as Hollister and Jack Wills that are ridiculously popular with teens and young adults because I don't always think the quality of the higher priced products are worth the money. I also resent flaunting the brand name of said company which is always inevitabley plastered over the product. In addition to this I always try and get the most high quality product I can for the least amount of money so the thought of paying the £12 for this regular sized Body Mist brings tears to my eyes! I only ended up owning a bottle of the Hollister Languna Beach Body Mist because a family member said they never used it and passed it on to me.
The product is described only as a perfumed body mist rather than as a deodorant so it's primary qualities are the fragrance although the brand do say this mist can 'condition' the skin. The mist comes in a clear hard plastic bottle which has a top which you can fully screw off after use. The top is designed to be a pump button dispenser and the button is long with an extra secure cover to protect against the button being pressed whilst the bottle is in transit (say, in your handbag).
The labelling on the transparent bottle is quite pretty and has illustrations of pink flowers and a bird logo. The body mist liquid is a pale pink colour and this gives a very feminine appearance to the product. Full ingredients are listed on one label but there is no product information. You can go to the Hollister website to find out more about the ingredients in the body mist.
The pump action button is easy to use and when pressed the liquid comes out in an extremely fine mist to the length of about 12 inches. The mist also emerges like a little puffy cloud and this means that the mist is evenly distributed over the skin. When the mist hits my skin it feels cool and refreshing. I like to use this over my chest, belly, legs and near my neck although close to the face the mist can become too cloudy to tolerate. The mist is also fine for applying over clothes without them staining or having colour bleached out of them.
The scent of the mist is very pleasing. I would describe it as being fruity and juicy, playful at first then when it settles down onto the skin it smells more mature and musky. The brand state on their online shop website page that the mist contains " aloe vera, peach, freesia and coconut milk" and the peach is definitely identifiable in this blend.
It does remind me somewhat though of Bodyshop sprays and also the range of fruity body sprays available at Boots. I do not find the fragrance so superior that I could say it is worth so much more than other similar smelling body sprays.
The fragrance is reasonably powerful and lasts for a couple of hours before it needs to be reapplied. It is not sickly and it is quite distinctive. It is great for freshening up on warm days and I can always smell the mist radiating from my skin after application.
Although I like the fragrance of this body mist and the fact that it cools my skin I do not agree that it has any benefit on the condition of my skin. I also think that the £12 pricetag is outrageous and I would not choose to ever buy this at this price nor would I want anyone to waste their money buying this as gift for me.
Hollister Co is an American brand which is owned by the American brand Abercrombie and Fitch. Hollister is becoming more and more popular every day.
For me, Hollister is best known for its smell as, even if just passing a store, a strong , yet pleasant scent will drift up your nose and will intrigue you.
The products, in my opinion, are more expensive than other high street brands, though I feel that this is reflected in the quality of the products.
This particular product currently retails for £10 for which you get 250ml of product but if two are bought you can get two for £14, though 4 months ago was only £6 or two for £10 ( or something similar).
For me, I have owned this Body Spray for 4 months or so and still have half of the bottle remaining. That is with daily usage with a few sprays.
The Hollister Body Mists come in various colours and scents. SOLANA BEACH,MALIBU BEACH, LAGUNA BEACH, CRYSTAL COVE and CRESCENT BAY. The scent that I own is Laguna Beach, which, like the other mists, is fruity and very pleasant smelling.
Each mist is packaged the same, in a tall slim clear spray bottle, with a brown pump and transparent lid. The name, scent, ingredients etc, are printed onto a sticker on the bottle. The bottle is very durable and still looks as good 4 months on as it did when I bought it.
You will only need one spritz to appreciate the scent and those around you will smell it too. The only problem I have with this product is that, even at the price it is, you will not be able to smell it about 30 minutes later, so re-application will be necessary.
Overall, this product smells amazing and will last you for a very long time but I am disappointed that, as an expensive body mist, it does not have great lasting power.
