I regulary get Hugo Boss as presents as theirs fragrances are my favourite. The original one I very first tried was this Hugo. I have had both the aftershave and eau de toilette. I much prefer the eau de toilette due to the fact it's easier to spray on than dab aftershave.
It's bottle is a good shape to grip and the spray is a nice fine spray covering just the right area. The smell is quite strong for the first couple of minutes then settles down and lasts several hours. The top notes of green apple, grapefruit and basil I can not really make out. Then the heart notes are aromatic notes, sage and jasmine again I could only pick aromatic out of these. The base notes are fir balsam, cedarwood and patchouli. I have no idea what the last note should smell like but I think the fragrance can be described quite well as cedarwood.
As I usually receive as a gift I didn't know how much this sells for so looked on the fragrance direct website and have found it to retail at:
150 ml £39.50
I would definatley recommend for all ages, as does my wife as this is one of her fravourites on me.
Generally, i'm not a huge aftershave fan - I normally wear Issey Miyake's 'L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme', but only infrequently, and I generally stick to what I know. Looking through the bathroom cabinet today however, I found a cardboard box containing a large amount of Hugo Boss Eau de Toilette - I remember being bought it around ten years ago, but only using it a few times (hence the fact that the bottle was still three quarters full). "I'll give this another try", I thought to myself as I pulled out the cobweb covered item for a review.

Currently the 100ml bottle of Hugo Boss retails at £30 from amazon.co.uk, although it can be picked up for significantly less on eBay. The aftershave arrives in a green cardboard box with a small label showing both the Hugo Boss logo and a picture of the product on the front. Inside the box is a transparent glass bottle with a ridged silver cap. The cap has a length of green material attached to it, which is in turn connected to the neck of the bottle. To be honest, it's not the most exciting bottle design, and appears 'robust' rather than elegant - it's apparently inspired by a water bottle, although I certainly wouldn't recommend drinking its contents!

I've never really tried to describe a scent before, but i'll give it a go for the sake of a thorough review. Unscrewing the bottle reveals a slightly citrussy aroma, which is pleasant yet a little too strong for my liking. One particularly pungent smell that I can easily detect is that of pine - which unfortunately reminds me of a car air freshener that I once had. Apparently, the full ingredients list includes the essence of basil, bergamot, grapefruit, mint, geranium, jasmine, sage, lavender, cloves, sandalwood, cedarwood, patchouli, musks, vetiver, fir, balsam and suede. On second smell (now I know what I should be looking out for) I can certainly recognise the lavender, and just about pick up the mint - although it's really subtle. Generally, it's a balanced aroma which although pleasant, really isn't for me. The smell lasts a long time on the skin, and after wearing it all day, you can still detect its overtones.

Overall, although I enjoyed my revisitation of Hugo Boss Eau de Toilette, I probably won't use it again - the smell is just too 'full-on' - it reminds me too much of when I was around eighteen, and dimly lit nightclubs with unwholesome ladies.
** My Experience **
This is one of my partner's favourite fragrances and one of mine! I absolutely love smelling it on him as it smells so masculine and simply oozes sex appeal.
** The Fragrance **
This is a classic fragrance. It was first introduced onto the market in 1995 but is still going strong today, and this is mainly down to its gorgeous scent which is classic and sophisticated. It is a fragrance perfect for all ages. It does not smell too overly mature nor does is smell too freshly young. Hugo is a lively, fresh fragrance with underlying woody tones and a hint of spice. It has tones which include clove, rum, sandalwood and citrus but is not too overly fruity in the slightest.
** Packaging **
This fragrance comes in a dark green, cuboid shaped box with the Hugo brand and fragrance name clearly displayed on the front. The bottle of this fragrance is clear so you can easily see how much you have left. The flask like top is unique and is an interesting, masculine design.
** Price **
Hugo is available at most high street perfume stores for around £30-40 for 150ml. It is also available online at a much cheaper price, starting from around £20.
** Overall **
This is a very masculine, sexy fragrance which any man will simply adore wearing and which any woman will be unable to resist its seductive qualities.
This to me is the perfect aftershave for those people who like to just have one or two aftershaves which they use on a regular basis. If you like to have a heavy aftershave and a lighter, fresher one, this is that lighter one.
When it first came out several years ago I thought it was one of the fresher, fruitiest aftershaves I had smelt, but I was not overly aware of the choices out there at the time. Now I have smelt some particularly fruity ones such as Joop Homme Aftershave I have decided that for me this Hugo has the perfect level of freshness and vitality - it is quite subtle with it though so you don't smell like a walking fruit salad.
The official scent is listed as a blend of fig-enhanced zesty citrus, mandarin, lemon, orange and grapefruit, naturally warmed with notes of massoia wood producing this subtle scent. I think you can pick up on these smells - which is unusual as companies often go into overtime spouting 1001 ingredients contained in their scents. I think the wood is very subtle and acts more to hold all the scents together rather than as a unique smell itself.
The bottle is a simple design, but the lid is excellently held onto the bottle by a material strap, so you never lose the lid.
Overall a great aftershave for the connoisseur and the first time buyer alike.
Usually, I am not a huge user of aftershave (or in this case eau de toilette). When I do, I inevitably reach for my favourite which is Echo by Davidoff. For a while I have been feeling like it was time for a change.
A few months ago I was walking around Bluewater, shopping for a new suit when I noticed a group of people handing out free samples. They were handing out tiny bottles of Hugo Boss eau de toilette. Never being one to pass up a freebie, I obligingly took one. They were still there when I walked past 30 minutes later so I took another one. I repeated this a few times and left Bluewater with 6 free mini bottles (each bottle containing enough for a weeks usage) - Result!
It wasn't until I got home that I actually bothered to smell it, and I have to admit I was very pleasantly surprised. It is hard to accurately put into words the actual smell of this eau de toilette. I would say that it is a clean, crisp fragrance and also quite light. I really dislike the heavier, musky varieties so this was a bonus for me. Because it is so light, it is not at all headache inducing, which, obviously, is fantastic.
There is also no hint of an alcohol smell unlike some other brands (I may be showing my ignorance here, maybe eau de toilette doesn't contain alcohol but after shave does?). Despite its subtle smell, it has fantastic longevity and a few sprays will see you through the whole day!
I have to admit, I find their TV advertising campaign quite irritating, with its free spirited, man on the go, hero. He really jars me! However, I was so impressed with the free samples that I have got past this and have now bought a bottle for myself. Ah, the power of direct marketing!
I would say this is an excellent product to use on an every day basis. It is subtle and light but at the same time distinctive. I love its clean, crisp smell and would definitely recommend it.
I received this Hugo Boss Eau de Toilette of my step-dad who did not like it. Good timing too as I had just run out of my Paul Smith!
The fragrance is a fresh, upbeat scent, I always use it when I'm going out somewhere social and even to my classes, and many a time I've had comments on how nice it smells and people asking me what it is. I don't know the actual price of the bottle but it doesn't seem to expensive and is great for occasional use.
I do tend to find though that I have to put quite a bit on, 5-6 sprays sometimes to get the smell noticed otherwise it seems to dissipate and can't be picked up at all by people around you. The bottle I have is a good size but to get the desired effect, with the multiple sprays it does seem to go quite quickly, I've only had it for a month or so and I'd say already quarter of the bottle has gone.
Overall it's nice frangrance which does get people asking about and is a talking point of a conversation but don't expect it to last to long if you're a socialite lol.
This fragrance was given to me last Christmas in 2008 and I have literally only just run out of this amazing eau de toilette. It has become an old friend and has helped me as a conversation tool on many a night out. I reccomend it to all my mates and they all agree that this is one of the best male fragrances on the market today.
Not only is it one of the best it is also one of the earliest fragrances to be developed by the Hugo Boss company, according to the website this fragrance blends a mixture of apple, grapefruit and basil as a fleeting top note, sage and jasmine as a heart note as they describe it and finally they use a mixture of Fir Balsam, Cedar-wood and Patchouli as a deeper base note that is the residing smell of the piece. Now I don't know how much of this is truly accurate but with my very uneducated nostrils I can smell a great blend of citrus and a woody smell that I can only assume to be the Fir Balsam, Cedar-wood and Patchouli so I can't imagine them to be far of the mark.
This fragrance literally only needs two sprays to make itself known at a perfect amount and I am sad to see the end of it now although it has lasted me a long time now. I must start to either look for a new one or go for the one I love right here.
Not the most flamboyant aftershave in the world but if you're looking for a good everyday aftershave then you could do a lot worse than Hugo from Hugo Boss.
If i had to match this aftershave to a celebrity (stay with me here, hopefully it will all make sense!!) i would have to say it reminds me of someone like David Tennant (in a good way). Not the most beautiful thing in the world but with a real mesmerising quality and something a little bit out of the ordinary.
The scent itself is wonderfully vibrant and fresh with hints of Lavender, Jasmine and Green Apple that keep the aftershave smelling fresh all day long.
As i said perhaps not the most impressive aftershave if you're trying to capture the heart of the object of your desires but if you're after a aftershave that smells great, isnt too expensive and will make you feel confident and charming then Hugo by Hugo Boss could be the perfect aftershave for you
This Hugo Boss fragrance is my favourite and has a great quite intense woody smell that really makes it unique as well as crisp and modern. It is a one off and I have found no other after shave quite like it and would recomend anyone to buy it.
THE DULL LOOK
The bottle and design is not the most brilliant or even very nice to look at but the fragrance itself is and so in this case dont judge the after shave by the bottle.
It would be suitable in my opinion for someone young or middle aged but not too sure if it would be a good choice for an older gentleman due to its quite modern and vibrant smell.
If you are looking at buying this product my opinion is you should as it really stands out and is differnet from anything else on the market.
Hugo Boss Hugo for men makes my wife go weak at the knees!!!
It has a cinnamon/clove like fragrance which is clean and crisp, with a fruity undertone. Reminds me a bit of Christmas with the spiced apple and cinnamon smells. A very popular eau de toilette among younger men due to its price.
I quite like this mself and was wearing it when my wife and I met for the first time, so it has a kind of sentimantal value too.
Comes in a green box with a clear glass bottle shaped a little like a water bottle that explorers would use. It is quite a strong fragrance but does settle and lasts for quite a while.
It is one of those fragrances that is quite unique. When you walk past someone wearing it you just KNOW wha it is. Ideal for a night out but perhaps a little to strong for work.
i bought this as a gift for my partner and i think it is a very nice EDT which is reasonably priced. it has a very mellow, fruity and spicy aroma. It does last long and a few sprays are enough for this. it is perfect for all occasions- party, work or even at home. My partner uses it when he goes to work and you can smell it even when he comes back after a long day. I bought the 100ml bottle as buying a bigger bottle turned out to be a lot cheaper. so you cant go wrong buying something like this. i had bought a different edt last year but then switched back to this one. Seems like both like this smell- this 100ml bottle lasts for a good 5-6 months but obviously depends on how you use as well. But if you haven't tried this perfume before, then you should definitely try this.
I have noticed that this particular fragrance comes in a variety of different bottles, basically the same design, but sometimes in limited edition bottles. It is not a bad fragrance, but I do not think it's the best Hugo Boss. The prices have gone down alot,I have seen the smaller bottles for as little as £9. If you want a cheaper designer fragrance, that smells like a designer..(you all know what I mean) then buy this.It is a good budget fragrance, and it does last on your skin.
Anyone who takes a trip to their local boots store will see all the different eau de toillette's and after shaves on offer for men. This fragrance is one in a long line of popular fragrances from the Hugo Boss brand. This is probably the most well known Boss fragrance for men because of the distinctive bottle which it is stored in.
The bottle has a distinctive flip style cap which you can flick up when you spray. This works well because you can sometimes get the sprayer jammed or broken on other bottles of Eau de toillette. I Have tried many fragrances and this is one of the easiest to use that I have found.
This particular Hugo Boss fragrance generally retails for around £25-£34 in most high street stores like Boots and Superdrug and also in some supermarkets and you can also find some really great deals online for this Hugo Boss fragrance.
Now onto the smell of the fragrance, the whole part of this review. Well the fragrance is a light masculine mix of green apple, pine needles, spearmint, cedar leaves, jasmine, lavender, sage and clove buds. All these make for a very nice fragrance indeed.
I would think that this fragrance is marketed at the younger generation 18-30 probably but for me it is an ageless fragrance that doesnt smell out of place on anyone whatever age they happen to be. A rare thing because you often get those kind of fragrances that only feel right on a person of a certain age.
I have been out many times with my mates wearing this fragrance and even when you are in a sweaty smoky atmosphere you can still get a pretty strong wiff of this for something that has been mixed with so much cigarette smoke. By the way I don't smoke.
Overall I was very satisfied with this fragrance and I would certainly buy it again in the future after I have bought a different fragrance to try for myself. A very nice smell that last a long time and isnt overpowering like some fragrances are.
Hugo Boss / Hugo EDT Gender: for Men / This butch looking bottle is like something straight out of the army! The contents however, are much softer with fresh scents of pine and spearmint, its worth going Awol for! Top note:; Bergamot, grapefruit, basil, mint thyme and pine needles / Fresher scents which evaporate at the quickest rate,a high percentage disappearing after a few minutes / Heart note:; Geramium, sage, jasmine, lavender and cloves / Sweeter, warmer scents which tend to linger longer than the top note / Base note:; Sandlawood, cedarwood, patchouli, musk-like notes, vetiver, Fir, balsam and suede / Dryer, spicier scents which take the longest to evaporate and so can sometimes last all day.
