Advantages: Smells beautiful! Shimmery and wonderful!

Disadvantages: Doesnt last forgever, not suitable for all occassions

When my best friend gave me a bottle of perfume for my birthday, I was right gutted. Although it was Hugo Boss, and so quite expensive seeming's as she's a student, it's a bit 'cop out' and couldn't believe my best friend didn't think of anything more personal. Then again, we haven't seen each other for a few months as she's miles away at university, and she is really busy (studying law!), and so I gave her a broad smile, the customary cuddle, and said my thanks.

Although you're not meant to know how much your birthday presents are, I had a quick peek on www.escentual.co.uk and they are selling the 50ml bottles for £30! You can also get shower gel, deodorant, and body lotion in the Intense range, but they are not a shimmer edition.

The box is quite cool. 155mm x 60mm x 35mm, and shiny silver. There's a red blob that goes from 1/3 up the back, across the bottom, and 4/5 of the way up the front and gradually melts into the silver. Down the top right hand side it says 'intense', and at the bottom says BOSS, with HUGO BOSS underneath, and SHIMMER EDITION under that. This is the 50ml, 1.6fl.oz bottle I am reviewing by the way, which is not small by anybody's standards. The right side of the box is mostly silver, apart from some of the red has spread onto it, and there is a long bar code. The left side is the same. The bottom has another bar code with the little recycling symbols etc. The back of the box gives the website (www.boss-fragrances.com if you are interested), says 'shimmer edition', and in big capital letters says SHAKE BEFORE USE. It then gives a very long list of ingredients, most of which I can hardly pronounce let alone know what it is, but I'm sure most fragrances are the same. It then says 'USA Caution, Flammable keep away from heat or flame'. Which is obvious really, considering it contains alcohol, lol. Apparently it was made in the UK - London ECA1 4DD. I'm guessing you'd write to that address if you have any complaints, but it doesn't actually say.


The Bottle is 146mm tall, 35mm of that being lid. It is 50mm wide and 30mm depth at the widest point and semi-circular in shape. It's quite funky because the semi circle starts one way round at the bottom, and by the time you get to the top of the lid, it has completely turned around. The bottle itself is white at the bottom, and fades into a deep red by the time you get to the lid. The base is red. When looking into the bottle, you can see a few pieces of glitter afloat but most of it is settled at the bottom. It isn't until you shake the bottle, that you can really see why it is a 'Shimmer Edition', as lots of pieces of glitter are floating around!



The lid is really easy to pull off, and the spray is fairly easy to press. Taking the lid off, and the smell wafts straight to your nose, and you know immediately that it is going to smell great. When you spray onto your skin, the spritz is quite large, so it covers a huge area when spraying. The instant smell is incredibly over powering, my mum says it gives her a headache immediately. However, after a couple of minutes it settles down, and smells very spicy, almost oriental infact. Im really rubbish at describing smells, mainly because you cant see it, but its the sort of perfume where you can be dancing in a smoky night club, and a woman will walk past you, and you'll be able to smell it and like it. I say 'you can't see it' when in fact you can! You need to shake the bottle before you spray it, and three little balls help mix up the glitter, and it leaves very slight glitter particals on your skin. These do ware off quite quickly, and dont worry they arent as mad as some of the glitter sprays you can buy, but the slight hint really looks pretty. I imagine it to look prettier on somebody with slightly darker skin than mine, although it is still noticeable on me. Back to the smell. Women, you can easily seduce a man with this fragrance. Men...watch out!

I find that after sort of a couple of hours or so, the smell dies out quite a lot. Not so according to other people who have tried this so maybe I have a rubbish sense of smell. But in the evenings I'll maybe spray it every two hours or so. Its not the sort of spray I'd reccommend you wear everyday, especially not if you are in a small office with lots of people because it can sort of get down the back of your throat.

If you wear it properly, it really is a beautiful fragrance. I'd definately put it on my shelf next to Cool Water and DKNY. Back to my best friend, after wearing this fragrance a couple of times, I really felt quite guilty for the way I judged her for 'only' buying me a perfume. Fragrances are quite personal, one womans love is anothers hate and all that. She must know me incredibly well in order to be able to chose one perfume from a selection of about a million and know that I will love it. Thank you a million to her.
