Advantages: Fruity, floral with a nice dark side

Disadvantages: Doesn't last as long as I would like on the skin

I already own a bottle of Hugo Deep Purple, which I love, so I thought I'd splash out and treat myself to a bottle of Deep Red, which I must say, I think is even better than the Deep Purple.

I bought this from my local Semi Chem store for £29.99 for a 50ml bottle of Eau de Parfum. I love the bottle, very dark and mysterious, a little like the fragrance itself. The bottle is a matt frosted glass, which is a gorgeous dark red colour, has the Hugo logo in silver printed on the front, and a stylish silver lid.

Hugo Deep Red is a floral fruity fragrance, but does have a lovely deep sensual almost exotic dry down. When you first spray this you are met with a delicious fruity cocktail of mandarin, pear, and blackcurrant, however it is not sickly in the slightest as the mid notes develop quite quickly.

The heart notes are a lovely combination of ginger leaves which is where I think it has a slightly spicy exotic scent. This is accompanied by freesia, hibiscus and tuberose which gives a suble floral burst to the perfume. I would like to say that I can event detect a fleeting smell of marzipan, but I may be a little off on that one.

This then gives way to the warm and sensual base notes of sandalwood which is very suble, but still detectable, along with cedar, musk and vanilla. I think that the vanilla lends a creamyness to the fragrance.

I find that this fragrance is more suited to evening wear although I've worn it every day since I purchased this, I really do love the changing characters of this scent. The dry down is pretty subtle, not at all overpowering so I can just about get away with it for day wear, even though it is a rather dramatic fragrance.

I also find that some days it can smell a little different on me, I'm not sure how, but some days it does smell more fruity and others I can sense the floral notes more.

I feel that the only downside to Hugo Deep Red is the lasting power. I would expect and eau de parfum to last anywhere from 4+ hours, but I genuinely feel that I get a lot less wear out of this. Perhaps it's a case of once my nose gets used to the scent I'm a little desensitised to it, but it does not last out well.

Would I recommend this fragrance? I would have to say its a definite yes. I feel that it is good value for money (lasting powers aside) and it's a great change from the other fruity florals out there, which have no 'deep, dark' quality. It really does have nice kick to it.

Note:

Just my humble opinion, please try for yourself, but I'm sure you'll like it too.

I'm only giving 4 stars due to the poor lasting qualities.

Summary: A lovely scent from Hugo
