Advantages: long lasting lovely aroma

Disadvantages: bit pricey but you pay for quality

Further to my horrible experience with a tester from Britney Spears Fantasy perfume recently, I was a little bit dubious when this Hugo Pure Purple postcard dropped through my letterbox for me to try. However, as it's in the interests of everyone on reading this I thought I would risk it. Hold tight, here goes.

***Background***

Hugo specialise in both fragrances and fashion throughout the world for young, trendy and adventurous people. They are part of the Proctor & Gamble range of products which surprised me quite a bit as you tend to associate them with more cleaning products that the high fashion industry

***The Ingredients***

The top notes in this fragrance are of white cyclamen and nectarine and you can certainly get that hint of a mixture of fruit and flowers when you first apply this perfume.

The middle notes are described as being of black violets and floral bouquet. This to me, makes the perfume quite sumptuous in fragrance. Strong but subtle at the same time.

Finally we have the base notes where we find amber and white suede with a sweet white marzipan hiding in there. This is meant to give the wearer a feeling of full-blooded sensuality.

As a whole this perfume is described as joyful, vibrant, modern and bold.

***The Bottle***

This is described as a triangular helix which rather makes it stand out from other bottles. As purple is one of my favourite colours, I wholehearted approve of the purple base which lightens as it reaches the silver reflective top. The twist of the bottle gives it a unique style.

The box is a violet colour with a picture of the bottle on it and the familiar red and black Hugo label.

***The Range***

As well as the Eau de Parfum which comes in 2 sized bottles there is also Shower Gel, Body Lotion, Deodorant Spray and Roll on Deodorant.

I'm well impressed with this as there is nothing worse than having to use different shower gel and deodorant to your perfume and ending up with a conglomeration of smells.

***My Thoughts***

When I first put this on I loved the initial light fruity and flowery scent that this gave off. I waited to see if it would all go wrong but I was pleasantly surprised as the deeper scents of the violet and suede gave it an almost musky fragrance. This is definately something I prefer in a perfume as sweet, flowery scents tend to set me off with a migraine.

Ahhhhh!!!! Sorry I had a flashback to the Fantasy perfume again.

There are no shouts of disapproval from my family with this one but then it's probably because it's a lot more subtle and expensive smelling. I've had lots of positive feedback from my daughters on this - they say it smells lovely on me.

As I've only been able to test it using the small piece of fabric soaked in the perfume, I can't get a true idea of what this would smell like having been sprayed on although the fragrance has lasted me well for about 4 hours which is perfect if you are planning a night out.

I probably wouldn't wear this one during the day as it has a slightly more sensual, night out, type of smell although it would be nice for a romantic lunch out.

I love the idea of being able to co-ordinate the perfume with shower gels and deodorants and this would be a real plus factor in buying this. I'm sure there will be plenty of gift packs out there.

***Who is this aimed at?***

Since the advertisement shows a young woman in a summery dress, dancing through the streets I would say that this is mainly aimed at the young and beautiful - however, as I've been told this suits me then I must be young and beautiful too, ok or maybe just delusional.

***Price and Availability***

In Boots just now you can get a free body lotion with the 90ml bottle of this perfume for £39. A 50ml bottle will set you back £31. The shower gel is a whopping £15 and the body lotion sells for £17 so the offer is extremely worthwhile. The Deodorant spray is retailed at £11 and despite best efforts I haven't been able to find a price for the roll-on variety. Check online though for best prices as Fragrance Direct or Cheap Smells are often good for a bargain.

Free samples of this and other Hugo fragrances for both men and women are available at www.hugofragrances.com.

I haven't tried this one yet, love Hugo Deep Red so I think I'd probably like this too. Will try and nab a sample or two. :O)
