Issey Miyake is the name of a Japanese man who was born in 1938. He witnessed (and survived) the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and after studying graphic design he used his name as its brand name to use for various projects. He is best known for his fashion brand, but also the perfume products (introduced in 1992) with his name are sold worldwide.
This fragrance came on the market in 2004 and comes in a long glass bottle and it light defined. The base of the bottle is diamond shaped. The whole is finished with a silver diamond-shaped cap. It looks really beautiful and got my attention from the first moment I saw it. The sprayer is very easy to use and gives you the right amount. I only have to spray once to get enough. So absolutely no complains there.
The liquid in the bottle really is blue. The fragrance is very special and very powerful. A mixture of a patchouli-like form with an oriental touch. Seductive, intoxicating and attractive. For the base of the perfume Issey Miyaki used moss, sandalwood and leather. The heart consists s of rose de mai , ginger and peppery watercress. The top fragrances comprise a mixture of lemon grass, mandarin, rosemary, elemi resin of the tree and star anise.
It's a special smell that lingers well. You only need little of the fragrance and you will smell nice the whole day long. You can smell the oriental influence of the designer. Typical herbs such as ginger and lemon grass give this oriental accent. It really has something special and it is now one of my favorites! I really recommend this one!
I have always been a fan of Issey Miyake products and especially their eau de toilette ranges and frequently use the standard spray as it is fairly light and unobtrusive. About a year ago I was in a European airport with some time to kill and some Euro's burning a hole in my pocket. Having previously tried other male grooming products from Issey Miyake I had a look at what they had to offer and bought what to me was a new scent, L'Eau Bleue d'Issey.
The packaging has the same classic, simplistic design as all his products. They are never overly ornate but show a hallmark for quality. As the previously purchased scent was sweet smelling I was expecting something similarly in line with this from Bleue. To my disappointment, this was not so.
Bleue is pungent and overpowering. It has a very woody and peppery scent with a citrus hint that overwhelms. I found it to be utterly lacking in subtlety (something I always liked Miyake products for) and smelt overtly masculine. Some may describe it as bold but I found it to be coarse and too robust. One spray too close and you will stink out a restaurant. I always like subtle scents that you hardly notice are being worn. I have a friend, we'll call him Mr F, who you can really tell is wearing an odour when he enters a room and it is always overpowered and feint inducing. This is exactly the effect with this product.
If you like heavy masculine scents then you'll like this. If you're not into overpowering and intoxicating others, you'd be better off with the original scent. A disappointment.
Issey's Blue Water is definitely a must have for anyones cologne collection. Its very woody with the smell of black pepper. It makes you smell very classy and manly. My girl loves it, it has a really deep note that hits you right from the first spray on! the best cologne by miyake so far. subtle floral notes make this my favourite day-time fragrance, I wore it to work and received so many compliments on it. The people that smelt the fragrance on me said,"I have to buy that " it gives you a real good feel good factor through out the day and be warned guys it may attract some attention from the ladies! to sum it up i would say This is a great fragrance! The original is great! I believe this one is better! I always have someone ask me what I'm wearing when I use this cologne! Give it a try!
Issey Miyake was born on 22 April 1938 in Hiroshima, Japan. After studying graphic design he went on to set up his own design studio. The business created high end fashion for both men and women and then went on to launch their own watches and fragrances.
Miyake launched his very first male fragrance in 1994 (L'eau d'Issey Pour Homme) before going on to launch L'eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme in 2004. The fragrance was created by perfumer Jacques Cavallier.
L'eau Bleue d'Issey is available in either a 75ml or 125ml Eau de Toilette. The 75ml costs about £29 and the 125ml retails at around £36. The bottles are blue in a diamond shape with a distinctive silver top.
The fragrance has notes of Mandarin Orange, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Elemi, Star Anise, Nasturtium, May Rose, Ginger, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Sandalwood and Musk. It is a perfect winter fragrance and is also ideal for evening when making a positive impression is a must.
I absolutely love this fragrance and it lasts for a long time when first applied. When I have worn this in the past I have received many positive comments from the opposite sex. Many have asked 'What is that fragrance your wearing?' and one even remarked 'Umm very nice'. I would be surprised if you did not receive similar comments.
This fragrance is quite strong and unusual due to the complex blend of basenotes. Some may find it takes a while to get used to because it is not intended to be subtle.
However, I rate this as one of the best fragrances I have tried in the last few years and am very happy to have this as part of my collection.
