I've always had a soft spot for the Jean Paul Gaultier range of fragrances, with the classic ranking as one of my favourite perfumes of all time. The 2010 Classique Summer edition is a stunning perfume, easily the nicest of the various off-shoots to the original Classique. I must point out here that Classique Summer is released most years with not only a different fragrance but a new bottle each time which has been designed under the influence of recent JPG clothing collections.
The bottle for this 2010 edition is absolutely show-stopping, featuring the curvy woman's figure with vibrant red slashes arranged in an almost zebra-like pattern to give the impression of a sexy summer dress. Sitting next to my bottle of JPG Classique it looks fabulous with its more colourful design, but the colour doesn't detract from the very classical design of the bottle.
As beautiful as the bottle is, it's what's inside that really matters. And believe me, the contents of this bottle are something very special indeed. The overall fragrance is light and fresh, perfect for summer-wear this perfume has the richness of all the JPG offerings but without the heaviness that can be so overpowering in the warmer months.
As you spray you'll notice an amazingly authentic burst of citrus fragrance which makes the perfume smell and feel extremely summery even from the very first spritz. This is bought about by a beautiful blend of clementine, lemon and orange blossom - in my opinion it's the addition of the lemon which lightens this perfume and as your nose gets accustomed to the fragrance you'll quickly be able to pick out a sweetly lemon aroma bubbling beneath the rest of the notes. I actually think the lemon component of Classique Summer is more reminiscent of sweet lemon curd or meringue rather than the tarter scent of the real fruit, which is great as who wants to smell of real lemons?
This citrus aroma lingers for a good hour, all the while becoming slightly sweeter and developing into a beautifully rounded fragrance as you'd expect from this designer. As the perfume settles on your skin a more floral tone appears, with jasmine and and ylang ylang being the two notes my untrained nose can pick out without having to check the 'sniffing notes' provided on the JPG website. These heavier fragrances work so well with the sharp yet sweet citrus notes and help to create a more grown-up overall perfume, while still retaining its beautifully light and summer-inspired base. A bouquet is created as other floral tones break through and as you move towards the muskier base of the perfume you'll find lily-of-the-valley starting to push through, along with a gorgeously sexy woody fragrance which for me completely transforms the fragrance.
The base continues to have the citrus notes but it becomes muskier as the time goes on, mingling with a sweet and very noticeable vanilla to create a fab (and very, very sexy) blend. The vanilla works on many levels for me; the sweetness helps to keep the fragrance perfect for wearing in the summer, it also tones down the musky scent which keeps Classique Summer completely feminine and fun-loving.
All the different notes are blended so expertly that none take over completely; there are very distinct fragrances within the perfume, when this happens in offerings from less experienced fragrance houses the effect can be clumsy and 'cheap' smelling - this doesn't happen with Classique Summer and the blend is perfect. It doesn't last quite as long as the original Classique perfume, I'm still impressed by the longevity as a good few hours pass before I need to reapply my perfume but a combination of the very light fragrance and the fact that it doesn't linger as long as I'd like makes it a purely daytime perfume for me. I like something with a bit more presence when I'm off on a night out, and also a perfume that I don't need to apply again while I'm out.
While writing this I've been trying to think of the types of woman who would wear Classique Summer 2010, and the answer is just about everyone! To begin with I was going to say it's more suited to younger women (I still class myself in this bracket) but then my mum also loves it and sprayed so much of mine on every time she visited that I ended up buying her her own bottle. My twenty year old friend wears it, and so does her 73 year old Nanna - I think that says a lot about how practical this fragrance is as not many modern perfumes can bridge age gaps like that.
£32.99 (100ml bottle) from Fragrance Direct. And worth every penny.
I first came across Jean Paul Gaultier Summer Fragrance in about 2002. My friend had bought in the duty free whilst she had been away on holiday and was wearing it on a night out. I immediately fell in love with the scent so I was very disappointed to hear that it was quite limited in its availability. At that time it was rare to find it in shops, it was only available at certain times of the year and internet shopping wasn't as popular or at least I didn't really buy that many things over the internet then. The next time I went away, I scoured the duty free and found it. The first bottle I ever had was the 2003 bottle which had a butterfly design over the body of the bottle, 2004 I tried the Jean Paul Gaultier Classique and 2005 returned to the summer fragrance - this bottle had an undersea scene with exotic fish. I also went on to purchase the 2007 bottle which had a bustier with a letter 'S' taking centre stage, this design reminded me of a shell like theme. The bottle I have now is the 2008 100ml Eau de Toilette Spray which is decorated with African style jewellery around the neck moving between the bust down to a belt like feature around the waist of the bottle.
One of the many things I love about the Jean Paul Gaultier Summer Fragrance is the excitement of discovering the design the bottle will feature and how the design will be incorporated on the can. Apparently each bottle's design is inspired by Jean Paul Gaultier's clothing collection that year. The perfume comes in a can rather than a traditional box like the majority of other perfumes - from the Jean Paul Gaultier Summer Fragrances I have purchased the can has always been clear enabling you to view the perfume whilst incorporating the design of the bottle at the top and bottom of the can. I have seen cans that are metal and display the bottle design over the entire can but have never bought the perfume when it has come in a can like that. I have sometimes been disappointed with the cans that I have bought where the design has been printed onto plastic packaging which has had to be removed in order to access the perfume leaving just a clear plastic casing. I like to display my perfumes and a plain, plastic cylinder isn't all that attractive but can be used as a display case for the perfume bottles.
There is always one standard feature of the Jean Paul Gaultier Summer Fragrance like the Classique fragrance that makes these perfumes universally recognisable -the perfume bottle itself. The bottle is always a woman's bust incorporating a different design on the bottle every year. As I mentioned the design is usually incorporated onto the can the bottle comes in. The unique bottle which was first used for the Classique fragrance was originally inspired by the iconic corset Jean Paul created for the singer Madonna. Each bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier Summer Fragrance I have had has looked fantastic when displayed; it is such a beautifully designed bottle.
The summer fragrances do differ slightly from year to year but all have a similar composition making the scents very similar. The 2008 fragrance is composed of rose accords mixed with orange blossom, clementine and Sicilian lemon juice. The heart notes are a combination of jasmine Sambac, ylang-ylang, lily of the valley and white iris. The base introduces vanilla, musk and amber. I would certainly say this is floral scent. This is by far my favourite perfume; it is exactly the type of fragrance that I really love. It is fresh, floral, fruity, light and refreshing. It is a subtle scent that isn't overpowering. It is suggested that this perfume is ideal for use during the day. I have worn it during the day and on nights out and have found that it works well as both a day and evening perfume. I do use this perfume sparingly but that is purely due to the poor availability of this fragrance so that I never run out. I still use the bottle I bought late 2008, if it was more readily available I would probably only use this perfume.
I have always found this perfume to be long-lasting. I am always complimented when I wear this scent and just as I found this fragrance through a friend wearing it and recommending it, some of my friends have subsequently purchased this fragrance after I have worn it. I think that this scent is ideal for young women; it might be too light for some people but is a fantastic fragrance if you like floral and fruity perfumes.
I think that this perfume is quite reasonably priced. The cost does tend to differ vastly from place to place. I absolutely love this fragrance and would buy it whatever the price. The only drawback of this scent is its availability. I think it is available more now than when I discovered the perfume back in 2003 but is still very difficult to track down in shops. The one place I always find it is in the duty free when I go on holiday which tends to be in the summer months. It does seem to be readily available on the internet including older versions of the summer fragrance - I may try to buy it over the internet when my 2008 bottle runs out.
Overall, this is my ideal perfume. It is a floral and fruity scent that comes in an unique bottle that looks fabulous when displayed. I couldn't recommend this perfume more highly!!!!
I was bought this perfume as a gift, as I have never considered myself as a fan of Jean Paul Gaultier so would not have bought this for myself. My first impression was that the bottle is absolutely beautiful. It is shaped like a feminine upper torso, in a lovely pinky peach shade. It then has a beautiful design on the front which almost gives the illusion of the torso wearing a dress. It really is beautiful and feminine, and in my opinion actually looks like the bottle of a perfume more expensive than it is. 100ml of this perfume can be bought for about £35.
The fragrance itself is light and fresh, with a slight sweetness to it. It really is perfect for summer. The main notes are if citrus and rose, and then there is an undertone of vanilla and musk which provides a depth to the fragrance and makes the scent last longer. This fragrance really does last well too, and I did not often find myself needing to top up the perfume which meant the bottle also lasts longer.
I have not actually bought this perfume again as yet, as I do have some others which I prefer. But next summer it may well be on my shopping list as it really is perfect for a hot summer's day. I was pleasantly surprised by this perfume and think that it is great value for money at £35. You would definitely think you were getting a more expensive perfume.
I get kind of nostalgic when I take a look at this bottle, as it`s been years since I first began using it, I bought my first bottle in `05, and seeing as I haven`t been able to buy more than two bottles after that, I use this perfume only on special occasions! And it`s all in the name, this is a fragrance to use during those blissful months of summer, as it`s light, refreshing, full of flowers and fruit, and on top of that, the bottle looks to die for as well!
As the brand of this perfum after all is Jean Paul Gaultier, I expected this bottle to cost me two months of rent and then some, but actually, a 100 ml bottle of this perfume didn`t cost me more than 35.00 pounds, and I have to say that was a really great bargain, as this is a perfume that I really love, and it comes with a scent that makes me believe it came with a higher price! To my nose, the main scent in this perfume is yellow and red roses, after a while accompanied by a very mild and lovely hint of vanilla, which gives the perfume more class and depth, and I would guess that there`s a scent of some type of fruit in there as well, something that reminds me of pear, but I`m not quite able to pinpoint it... The bottle with its lady figure also looks very nice and fancy, and there`s an obvious femininity and sensuality about this fragrance, and there`s no doubt that this is my favorite perfume from Jean Paul Gaultier! With a lingering ability of at least seven hours, this is a perfume that impresses me in more than one way, and I have no thoughts in recommending it!
*Note this review is for the 2010 Summer edition, not the earlier one as pictured in the photo!*
I had never tried a Jean Paul Gautier fragrance until lately when my eye was caught by a gorgeous looking bottle on the counter in a department store. The bottle was one of the designer's trademark female body shaped bottles, but this edition was covered in pinky red swirls, looking like ribbon wrapped around a body, and I knew I had to have a sniff!
I found this to be a very nice fragrance indeed! The fragrance is light and quite hard to describe other than being incredibly 'summery'. It starts off quite citrussy, with notes of oranges and lemons, but then merges in to a more floral perfume - I can smell jasmine in the mix, which is gorgeous! It's definitely similar to the standard 'Classique' scent, which is sexy and floral, but this Summer version is more carefree and reminds me of the smell of the countryside in Summertime. I couldn't pick out any individual scents towards the end of the perfume, other than a general sexy muskiness, but this is a great perfume and many people have asked me what I'm wearing and complimented me on my choice when I tell them it's Jean Paul Gaultier.
After seeing what the perfume was like on me for the rest of the day, I went back to the store and bought myself a bottle using some vouchers I was saving up. I find it's always best to let perfumes settle on my skin, and I also like to know they staying power before I buy a big bottle, but I was really impressed.
The perfume stayed on my skin from mid morning until well into the early evening, and I could even smell a faint aroma of this on my wrists by bedtime, so I knew it was going to be money well spent.
I have only ever seen this perfume in 100ml bottles, so I'm not sure if it's available in smaller sizes - a 100ml bottle though set me back £35, which for the amount in the bottle is excellent. Considering it's from a designer, and the standard bottle of Classique can sell for £60+ for 100ml this is a fabulous price for a fabulous perfume!
Having earlier today reviewed Hugo Red which is a great fragrance when on a heavy night out I thought I would now review one of my favourite scents for daily use and especially when it s summer time and you want something light and care free, well in Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Summer Eau de Parfum you have the perfect scent for just such a climate. I'm a regular customer of Fragrance Direct as they are reliable and also great on price as I got a 100ml bottle for around £35.
In classic Gaultier style the bottle is in the shape of a human torso, in this case a rather curvy female one with a red swirly pattern across the light pink colour of the bottle. It is a very stylish product indeed.
The fragrance has a fruity light smell to it which really does bring back memories of summer or in the case of the current heat wave emphasises the smell of summer in the countryside. I reall do love this scent and I usually get compliments about it when I wear it. It is a long lasting smell and you do not have to use loads of it. I wear it as a daily scent for work or just a casual day.
It is one of those scents that helps to lift your spirits which is why I would also use it when the weather is not so nice as it helps remind me of better weather.
You may not believe it if you look out of the window today but summer is supposed to be on the way however I'm not totally convinced however when the sun does decide to arrive you can go little wrong if you give yourself a spray with this Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Summer Eau de Parfum, as is suggested by the name it is a fragrance for the summer.
It is also quite an affordable spray as you can get it from Fragrance Direct for £32.50 through the following link http://www.fragrancedirect.co.uk.
The bottle for this spray is in the shape of a curvy womans body, bit like my own lol, and the body is "wrapped" by a red sash that spares the blushes (if a bottle could blush). It is a very stylish product indeed. It is a little different to the picture shown by Dooyoo by the way probably because it has been changed for 2010 I assume.
Being a summer scent then you would expect to get a fruity light smell from it and you will not be disappointed at all. I love this scent and I usually get compliments about it when I wear it. I treat it as a whole body spray however although it is light you do not have to douse yourself in loads of it as it lasts on the body well and gives off a great smell.
What I like about the spray is how well it lasts, I use it as a day time scent and it is not something I would wear on a night out unless it is just to the cinema or something, it certainly helps to lift my spirits when I wear this as it is one of the scents I take away with me when I go on holiday and I always stock up on the duty free when I get the chance.
I smelt this perfume for the first time last week at the airport and I fell in love with it!
My favourite perfume is the Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, however the smell on this one is absolutly beautiful. It has a very strong and sweet smell, which lingers on the skin for hours, and just like the Classique smell it doesnt fade.
I find that this perfume is suitable for day or night, and is not to overpowing unlike other perfumes. Although the smell is quite strong it really does depend on your personal preference. I would recommend buying the body creams/lotions as these compliment each other well and you can normally get gift sets for a pretty reasonable price. It is light and summer smell and beautiful for the sunny weather
As with all Jean Paul Gaultier perfumes the bottle itself is beautiful and worth buying just for the bottle! The perfume comes in the standard metal tin as with all JPG products.
The perfume is quite expensive, however worth is 100%, as the smell lasts for hours you hardly need to wear any perfume to get the full effect and therefore lasts a whole lot longer. It really is a sweet and beautiful flowery smell, very strong but for any fan of the Classique perfume this is ideal. Its always worth looking out for special offers come christmas and valentines day and get a bottle in advance!
I was bought this perfume by my husband after he had been on a trip and I must say I would never have bought it for myself as all things Gaultier generally put me off as I never liked him from the Madonna era!
The bottle itself is quite an iconic piece of design. Everyone know this bottle and it is a great piece of branding as most consumers when buying perfume instantly now associate this shape with Gaultier. It is a figure of a ladies hourglass shape and although the bottle is transparent there is a frosted corset.basque etched on to the bottle so you can see the perform which is a peach/orange colour.
I find this scent quite heavy and so only use it on an evening but I must say that it is one of my favourites. I find the scent quite heavy and sexy at the same time. It is a strong musk but with a slightly sweet smell to it as well and it does smell very womanly without being too overpowering.
You don't need too much of this when applying as I say it is quite heavy. It also lasts a long time and once sprayed I find I'm ok for the rest of the evening. Therefore you don't go through that much of it and don't need to keep replenishing your stocks of it, so it works out fairly cheap considering it is a decent quality perfume.
I was bought this perfume as a gift and it comes very well presented. The bottle is typical Gaultier sexiness and is very very pretty and looks fab on your dressing table!
The scent is very feminine and floral with some muskier undertones which develop a while after first applied. It could be a bit heavy if you go a bit mad but a couple of squirts and it lasts a long time, especially if you spray a bit in your hair. So a little goes a long way so definitely value for money there.
Every time I wear it I'm always asked what it is and receive very nice compliments. I liked it so much I have just ordered a bottle for my friend for her birthday, it's fun, girly and sexy so if you like flirty fruity scents then this is definitely one to try. I love it!
I was brought this perfum for Christmas as a present.
My boyfriend had smelt it on his friends girlfriend before and really liked them smell.
I first tried the perfume last week. I find that it is quite a strong perfume so i used it for going out at night rather than in the day. The smell can be overpowering if you use to much so only a little is needed. My friend also tried the perfume but for some reason it smelt very different on her than it did me. The smell wasnt as nice on her so i do believe that it might only suit certain people. The scent lasted all night which i thought was very good as some perfumes wear off after a few hours. I only sprayed myself a few times so i think it will work out a very cheap prefume all in all as i didnt need to take it out with me to keep spraying through out the night so hopefully it should last me a good while.
I would recommened testing it first before buying as it smells different on different people.
I received this perfume from my Partner after dropping several hints for my birthday. I have used the JPG collection before and always adore the scent. I get many comments and even have used the Male scents as they too smell gorgeous.
This bottle is very decorative and the a little bit goes along way! I would recommend buying the body creams/lotions as these compliment each other well. It is light and summer smelling. My only negative point is that I dont like travelling with the tin can packaging, (but that is minor details when something smells so nice!)
I dont know how much it was as it was a gift, but I know Boots will sell it as this is where I get all of my perfumes (plus you get the points too!)
I believe its a limited edition so drop some hints because Valentines is coming up and it would make a lovely gift!!
Let me start by saying I am 31 years of age and have been wearing the original JPG (which i obviously love) since I was 17 and a friends mum brought it back from France for me. I have always been skeptical of other JPG perfumes since a boyfriend once mistakenly brought me FRAGILE which I hated so was very dubious about trying this one. Positives first: 1.as all JPG it comes in a pretty bottle 2. smell is similar to original but lighter and not as overpowering so quite suitable for daytime wear BUT it feels to me like a diet version - it smells nice when you put it on but within an hour the smell has gone. Also you don't get the lovely limited edition boxes that you get with the original - might be being fussy here! So all in all I would class this as a daytime perfume that needs to be reapplied throughout the day and would probably suit someone younger who is just starting to wear perfume. Another thing is I have had many compliments from men (and women) about my perfume when I wear the original but no one ever said anything about this one - what does that tell you? Either its not as good or I'm getting too old to pull these days!!!
The first thing I have got to say is the bottle is one of the nicest you can find and looks gorgeous on any dressing table, with the added patterns on the front it is so pretty.
I personally really like Jean Paul Gaultier's fragrances, find them a pleasant mix between sweet and fruity. However, I have struggled to find this fragrance in high street stores and believe you can only easily get hold of it on the internet, so if it one you like that try and get a good stash of it soon.
The fragrance is in the mid range in price, but I consider worth it. The fragrance has a definitely hint of rose mixed with a citrus fruity scent. However, most of the fragrances that come in the female body shaped bottle do smell fairly similar with only slight differences.
All in all I would definitely recommend giving the fragrance ago.
I am a massive fan of JEAN Paul Gaultier classique and thought id try the summer version too its everything you expect from the makers its light enough to wear daily and heady enough to make you feel special wearing it out to any occasion. I treated myself to this for an early holiday present and i know now all the good memories from the holiday will stay with me as i use this in our colder months here thankfully..
I get so many comments wearing this classic smelling perfume and even men notice when im wearing this, my daughter tried a little and asked for some for a birthday gift as did my mother in law so this fragrance crosses all age barriers from 17 to 63 but its still not over used as you hardly meet anyone who wears it so all that dont comment on it, lush !
