This is one of my favourite summery fragrances, and one that I have worn all through summer. Deseo means desire, and this perfume is desirable (I cannot comment on whether wearing this makes ME desirable....).
Jennifer Lopez needs no introduction to most people. From her acting career, singing career, her marriages or just the fact that she has a derriere that people covet, most people are at least aware of her and what she does. This fragrance was designed by Lopez and the fragrance giant Coty.
This scent was apparently inspired by Jennifer's own garden, and she invited the team from Coty to visit her garden to try to capture the essence of her garden into a perfume. When this was first released it was aimed at a more "sophisticated and mature demographic" than the earlier scents.
This perfume comes in an unusual shaped glass bottle, which really stands out on my dressing table. The bottle is an aquamarine colour, with a slightly yellow tinted lid. It reminds me of a tropical island with sunshine and a clear blue sea. It is apparently designed to represent an uncut diamond.
The scent is made up of the following:
Top Notes: bamboo leaf, yuzu, freesia and sicilian begamot.
Heart Notes: orange blossom, rose geranium, mimose and star jasmine.
Base Notes: sandalwood, amber, patchouli, musk, atlascedar and oakmoss.
There is something exotic and floral in this scent, and it just reminds me of summer and sunshine. I do feel it's a summer fragrance though, as I want something more comforting in winter. It's not a very strong scent, and does fade into the background somewhat, so if you are looking for an in your face scent, then this one isn't for you. Despite this having some strong base notes, I can't say this has a particularly strong lasting scent, and fades completely after around 3 hours.
I do like the perfume and I like the scent, even though it's not very long lasting. It's very exotic and unusual and it's a very unique scent.
I have since found out that this perfume has been discontinued from retail, but it is still available online. I have had my bottle for around 3 years now and wear it regularly and it hasn't gone off.
I was buying my boyfriend some aftershaves foe Christmas when I cam across this perfume and it was going pretty cheap I bought 100mls which had a recommended retail price of £40 and I got it for just £16.99 from fragrancedirect.co.uk.
I was firstly impressed with how quick I received my perfume and quickly ripped it out of the box to have a smell, the only problem with ordering online is that you don't really know what your getting loll. The first thing I noticed was the weird shape of the bottle.
Its hard to describe the bottle so I will try at least, its like in a slanted rectangle shape just as shown in the picture above, although in the picture the bottle is dark blue where as in fact when you get a close up of it, it's a lot more of a lighter shade of blue. The glass has indents in it, which if I am honest seems to fit well with my fingers and seems to make it a lot easier to hold. The lid is of similar shape and is a yellow colour.
The lid can prove quite tricky to take off at first as you need to grab it and lift it up a little and then turn to twist off, and to put it back on is the easier part just slot it on twist and push down. Like I said it can take a little getting used to but after a few times its easy.
Now on to the smell it is classed as having a sparkling burst of fresh orange blossom and pink geranium luxuriate with the hint of mineral-notes and sensual amber. When you first put the perfume on there is a mixture of smalls, but once the perfume has settled down the main one to shine through it is the orange smell, not that it smells like an orange but that's the main thing that comes to mind when I smell it. It is a very nice and sweet smelling perfume that you can wear for any occasion, I wear this daytime and night time when I go to the pub, and I do get comments on how nice I smell. It does not however last all night but it does indeed last for a full night out which I am always impressed with if I do not have to spray anymore loll. As to if I would buy this again, yes I would although I do like to try new perfumes a lot so I may try some others first. But for this price it was a bargain.
Introduction to the product
Deseo is a celebrity perfume designed by Jenifer Lopez. It was launched in May 2008, following the success of her numerous other fragrances. Unlike her previous offerings, this perfume pays homage to miss Lopez's Hispanic roots (Deseo means to desire or to wish) and according to my sources (Google! :p), Miss Lopez also had a hand in designing this perfumes rather distinctive bottle.
The packaging is a bit odd. It took me a while to realise that it was meant to be an uncut gem (a Diamond I think) because it does look a bit like a misshapen paperweight or plastic rock!
However having said that, I do sort of like the bottle. It's a bit different and the fact that it's so big and chunky makes you think that you're getting lots of perfume for your money. I know some people collect perfumes based on their bottles rather than how they smell so for these people, I'd recommend this based on the uniqueness of the bottle.
Unfortunately, the chunkiness and strange shaped bottle make it difficult to put the top back on again once you've used it, which is a bit of a pain.
It's bizarrely coloured blue and yellow (blue bottle, yellow lid). I personally prefer the male version which is the same rock shape but in pure black.
The bottle came packaged in a gold box with blue writing. It's not the most exciting box in the world but the bottle itself is so distinctive that I don't think it needs to be anything fancy. I rarely keep the perfume boxes anyway (apart from my lovely Daisy by Marc Jacobs box).
I'm not really sure how to describe the smell?
Fragrance Direct describes it as: 'a sensual scent inspired by a midnight walk through a rain-kissed tropical garden' and Amazon lists it's key smells as the following:
Top Notes: bamboo leaf, yuzu, freesia and sicilianbegamot.
Heart Notes: orange blossom, rose geranium, mimose andstar jasmine.
Base Notes: sandalwood, amber, patchouli, musk, atlascedar and oakmoss.
I copied and pasted this information because I'm personally rubbish at identifying individual smells in a perfume. However I did recognise a certain fruityness in its scent (that must be the Orange blossom?).
I think it's quite an unusual smell. I mainly chose floral/sweet perfumes so the fruity/tropical tone of Deseo was a change from what I'm used to but I liked it and so did my mum and grandmother. This makes me think it's suitable for older women as well as younger ones.
Does it last?
The perfume fades really quickly. Even if I apply two or three lots of it before leaving the house, I still find that the scent has faded by the time I get back. This is annoying because the bottles size and shape mean it isn't exactly handbag friendly. So it's not like I can pop it in my bag and reapply it when I'm out.
I'd say it lasts on average for about 3 hours if that. In my experience, that's pretty poor for a perfume and even though I only received it for Christmas this year, I can imagine me running out of it really quickly if I have to keep reapplying it.
Where to buy.
This perfume is really cheap in most places. It seems to be knocked down a lot and even at it's most expensive, I've only ever seen it at about £21.
Mum told me that she got mine as one of the Ebay offers of the week in the run up to Christmas (but obviously she wont say for how much!) and France Direct are currently (Jan 2011) selling a 30ml bottle for £7.50. I think this is a good deal.
A nice perfume that wont break the bank. Light and summery scent, maybe suitable for holidays.
When it comes Jennifer Lopez perfumes I think my mom does have a bit of an addiction. While she never buys into these celeb scents usually if J-Lo releases a new perfume then its likely she will have it within a week of its release. Im not complaining though as unless she really loves them she does usually let me use them from time to time as well this one "Deseo" being the last one she let me use and eventually ended up giving it to me. That should have told me everything I needed to know about this scent really I should have known my mom wouldnt be that generous with a J-Lo perfume if it was really nice! If you havent guessed already this perfume is NOT good and I wont be using the bottle I have anymore - Im chucking it after this review.
Now when I personally buy a perfume I like the bottle to really stand out as more often than not that is what attracts me to the perfume and I know I didnt actually buy this one but I think that based on the bottle I wouldnt have even noticed this if I was walking through a shop. The bottle is basically an uncut diamond design which looks as if someone got a lump of glass and hacked bits out of it randomly now if you ahve used J-Lo perfumes in the past you will know thats nothing like her usual designs. The bottle itself is light blue and yellow in colour but in my opinion those two colours dont really compliment each other and overall Id say the bottle is quite boring. She really should stick to her signature bottles designs - and it seems she thinks so to as her latest perfumes have been long and slender rather than clumpy and heavy. It serves its purpose but not a lot else.
I think I must be getting better at describing the notes in perfume as like my review earlier I can tell you exatcly how this smells but after some poking around on the net Ill give you the ingredients that everyone knows about: Bergamot, Bamboo, Orange Blossom, Mimosa & Geranium. Now I reckon you will have made up your mind after reading that list that this is going to be a really floral, light scent buy you couldnt be more wrong. I am very shocked to find that I cant find coconut listed as an ingredient in this perfume as that has got to be the strongest note of all and everyone who smells this I think will agree - to me it smells like expensive sun cream!! I can smell the Orange Blossom to a certain extent as it gives off a really sweet scent but that is definately added as an afterthought in fact all the notes apart from coconut are as none are as strong or as noticable unless they are and the coconut scent is so strong that it overpowers everything else which I have to admit is a possibility. This is a light, summery scent but Ive got a bottle of Coconut Body Mist from The Bodyshop which smells exactly like this if not better and cost under £10 so I cant recommend you waste your money on this one - Ive heard its being discontinued anyway so this must not have gone down well with anyone really - I dont understand why it has such great reviews here on Dooyoo. Ah well each to their own!
I dont think women of any age would like this to be totally honest but if you do own this or are planning on buying it for someone it is more suited for daywear as the scent is quite light and summery. Dont waste your money - even my mom hated it! J-Lo should have stuck to what she knew perfume wise as her new direction has been a total letdown.
Thanks For Reading

On application the fragrance is 'green'. The notes of bamboo leaves, bergamot and yuzu are fresh, but not heavy. If anything I was surprised by how light DESEO is.
After a short while the fragrance 'warms' with the geranium, orange blossom and mimosa. Other people who have tried DESEO have said the scent is sweet and fruity, but I haven't experienced this. I can detect a faint hint of coconut, though there's no mention of this is in the fragrance notes. Maybe it's just because I'm reminded of suntan lotion!!
The mineral accord in the base is the most dominant for me; it lends an aquatic air to DESEO. I can also detect the woods, bringing to mind tropical woodland by a beach.

I like the shape of the bottle; it's in the shape of a uncut diamond. Very 'bling' and it's weighty. I'm not keen on the colour combination though.

The lasting power is good. At the end of a eight hour day I could still smell it on me.
I'm a migraine sufferer, but I've never suffered any ill effects as a result of wearing this.

I think this is the perfect scent for summer: DESEO is fresh, exotic and beachy, and won't give you a headache or prickley heat rash on your skin in hotter weather.
I think it is more suited for day wear, it's perfect for work too, as it isn't offensive to other's.
For autumn/winter I don't wear it. If you want to wear it all year round, try layering it with a vanilla based fragrance for a warming effect.

I'm not sure if DESEO is being discontinued, but it's becoming quite tricky to find, which leads me to believe it is.
Some high street shops and online retailers stock 50ml and 100ml bottles. Prices vary, but neither size should cost more then £20.00.
So if you like it and see it, it may be worth picking up an extra bottle.
I received the 50ml Deseo by Jennifer Lopez for a christmas present.
The bottle is like a huge uncut diamond with a slight green tinge to it and a golden coloured spray top, the box itself is yellowy orange in colour and not particularly attractive but nonetheless I was keen to try the product inside.
Deseo is the latest fragrance from the Jennifer Lopez franchise at Coty, and the floral woody scent reportedly takes its inspiration from a "midnight walk in Lopez's garden moments before a thunderstorm set in".
Jennifer Lopez Deseo was developed by perfumers Ellen Molner and Jim Krivda. It is available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum and in Desirable Body Lotion and Desirable Shower Gel.
Deseo first hit me with an appley and citrus smell. The grapefruit-y citrus in the opening is sharp for a time, then it is very soft and subdued and gives way to a slightly gardeny greenish smell. The notes are plentiful, watery bamboo leaves, yuzu, bergamot, freesia, star jasmine, pink geranium flower, orange blossom, mimosa, warm amber, oak moss, musk, sandalwood, cedar, patchouli and mineral accord.
The heart is floral notes which feel a bit indistinct like I couldn't really tell what they were. They smelled slightly pinky, I now know of course that this was a the geranium note.
The perfume drydown is musky and ambery after probably about 10 or 15 minutes actually, a bit like lying on the beach on a warm night maybe with the smell of the sand. It is also slighty woody which remained in place for quite a while after the initial fragrance wore off.
This perfume is going to be liked by all women of all ages. It seems to be wanting to appeal to both markets, teenagers, twenties then older women, and I think it is probably going to be more successful for older women instead of youngsters, as I do not think it will appeal to teens, considering the design of the bottle also. It has a slightly playful edge which keeps it young though, however it is not a perfume that I would purchase for myself.
The Eau de Parfum lasts well, most EDP's do on me I tend to find, leaving behind the musky earthy notes which will linger for a long time to come.
I feel I would wear this more at night time or going out.
Deseo is a celebrity perfume from Jennifer Lopez. When I bought this, my friend's birthday was later that day and all she wanted when I asked was perfume. I had about another 15 minutes before I had to leave the shops to get ready. I was fully expecting to have to buy an average smelling perfume and just hope that she'd like it, however, I sprayed on Deseo and instantly fell in love with this new sensual fragrance.
Deseo has a very floral smell, but at the same time it's fragrance is very earthy. I don't usually wear floral fragrances because i find them to be too sweet a lot of the time, and a bit too reminiscent of the perfume I used to slather on myself when I was a young girl. However, there is nothing little girlish about this fragrance and I instantly feel sexier after i've put it on.
I would recommend that any women who are looking for a new scent give this perfume a go. My friend loved it when I gave it to her and the next day I returned to the shop to buy a bottle for myself.
Olfactive group: Floral, woody musk
Major perfume houses are very cautious about creating tropical fragrances as they are often deemed unsophisticated and cheap smelling.
Deseo - meaning wish or desire - is a one of these scents that reveals its seemingly opposite but relatively well-blended notes - dry and wet, warm and cool - that creates a truly tropical fragrance throughout, with a touch of oriental.
The bottle of the fragrance is unconventional, though a little bit too busy and looks cheap to me. In fact it is a roughly cut diamond in two distinct colurs: the bottle part is turquoise which nicely reflects the tropical nature of the scent, the lid is golden which I associate with the beach sand and woody bamboo notes in the fragrance.
The lid closes off the shape of the bottle and clicks on but it doesn't give the impression that the two parts actually belong together. For me this bottle just doesn't cut it (no pun intended), a simpler, uncomplicated lid would have been better.
The box - which looks like a cardboard box - is mainly gold in colour and has Deseo written on it in turquiose letters with Jennifer Lopez's signature below.
Top notes: bamboo leaves, yuzu, bergamot
The opening notes in Deseo are strong and sweet smelling at first and dominant with sparkling citrus which was almost as sugary as pure mandarin. I immediately thought of Tropiques (2005), one of my favourite scents from Lancome.
The tropical fruity accords of pineapple, coconut and papaya are very similar but sharper and sweeter than in Tropiques. Lancome stays fruity and crisp in the heart while within an hour Deseo turned into a delicious, warm coconut scent. You have to love coconut in fragrance, otherwise it's going to be a disappointment for you as coconut isn't mentioned as one of the notes.
Middle notes: freesia, star jasmine, pink geranium flower, orange blossom, mimosa
The coconut had a wooly type of feel to it, something like the smell of tweed blanket warmed by the sun. The heart then gradually developed into a nice, powdery floral of jasmine and freesia, again very warm and gently spiced with the ambery base.
Base notes: amber, oak moss, musk, sandalwood, cedar, patchouli, mineral accord
The drydown turned into a subtle woody scent of dried leaves, similar to the smell of wooden furniture in a tropical bungalow. Inhaling the dusty and warm, woody and spicy tones I could picture the ocean side and the smell of coconut sauce curry in the air - an atmosphere that reminded me of my holiday in Zanzibar last autumn.
The amber, sandalwood and patchouli make Deseo warm and comforting, the musk, cedar and mineral accord gives it a cool edge at the same time.
I could also smell a subtle aquatic accord in it at the end - after about 4 hours- it was a woody accord but slightly salty - it reminded me of wet wood or rocks of the tropical seaside.
Deseo is a mixture of warm and cool notes that start creamy and floral then change into aquatic and woody at the end and lasts up to 6 hours. Overall, it's sweet but not too overpowering tropical fruity floral that isn't a sophisticated fragrance but can be a good choice for your holiday or worn casually.
