“ Brand: Jo Malone / Type: Fragrance / Concentration: Eau de Parfum „
I have to start this review by stating that I LOVE JO MALONE. The chic packaging, the sophisticated fragrances and the way that they give you a hand massage when you visit the counter at Selfridges. I regularly wear two Jo Malone fragrances, White Jasmine and Mint and Blue Agave and Cacoa. Blue Agave is a sexy, heady scent, while the White Jasmine and Mint is fresh and clean. The best thing about Jo Malone fragranes is that you can combine them. The freshness of White Jasmine and Mint cuts through the sweetness of the Blue Agave and stops me smelling too sacharine. By the same measure, the White Jasmine and Mint can be a little sharp on me without the Blue Agave to make it more mellow. The scent is subtle, but really lasts. It will certainly take me through a whole day in my not too glam work place. I like a spray a little more before an evening out. My partner is one of those soppy souls who insists that he prefers me to smell natural, little does he know that my natural scent is enhanced by a little bit of Jo Malone....
I have read in various magazines etc how gorgeous Jo Malone fragrances are, so I thought I would give it a try. I have just purchased from the Jo Malone official site a bottle of Black Vetyver Cafe and was very pleased to also receive two free samples with my order, one of English Pear and Freesia and one of Grapefruit. The delivery took only two days which was very quick. I have tried all three fragrances and each one is absolutely heavenly. However, I am so disappointed in the quality of the fragrance as I can only smell it for 15 mins max, and it has then gone completely and needs refreshing, and at these prices -£34 for 30ml - you would have to spend an awful lot of money to be able to smell this product all day!!! I have a wide variety of inexpensive, mid-priced and very expensive fragrances and all of them stay on much much longer than the Jo Malone ones. Prior to purchase, I did notice that the Jo Malone fragrances were "Colognes" and did in fact try to find out from the site whether she made her fragrances in parfum but with no luck so I assumed that only the "cologne" existed. However, given the pricing I would have assumed it would have stayed on somewhat longer to say the least. It is a disappointment for me, for as said ,the initial smell of each fragrance is really lovely and had it stayed on I would certainly have purchased more fragrances, but will certainly not be doing so for a mere "10 -15 minute buzz"!!
Jo Malone oozes sophistication and glamour. From the yellow and black chic presentation bags and boxes to the products themselves. Although the products are expensive there is no doubt in my mind that they are worth the price tag. The fragrances are unique, elegant and feminine and whenever I use them I feel fantastically glamourous. My favourite fragrance has to be Lime, Basil and Mandarin. I have this in the body creme, body lotion, bath oil and perfume. This citrusy perfume is beautifully delicate with a chic minimilistc glass bottle which fits nicely in any handbag and does not spill. This was the first Jo Malone gift I received and can still remember the joy it gave me to unwrap it. I have since used Jo Malone as a source of beautiful Christmas and birthday presents for my favourite people and they are never disappointed. The perfume itself does linger but gets softer throughout the day so I tend to reapply. There is no question that Jo Malone is a luxury brand and is highly priced as a result, however the way that the different fragrances can make a woman feel so luxurious and glamourous is truly fantastic. I would thoroughly recommend the brand to anyone who can afford it
Being a six foot four man from the West Country, I naturally have little time for cologne. However I have made time for Jo Malone since I first tried it over Christmas 2009. Everything about this unisex fragrance brand oozes quality and quirkiness. The trademark cream and black boxes, black ribbon and clear glass bottles brilliantly contrast the mad combinations of scents that you can buy. Wild Fig and Cassis, sir? White Jasmine and Mint, madam? How about Black Vetyver Cafe? The fragrances range from fusion-tastic (my personal weapon of choice is Pomegranate Noir) to safe citrus mixes and romantic red roses. Jo Malone care and service is second to none. I have had great experiences in both their stores (in Central London and Canary Wharf) and the concessions stand at Selfridges on Oxford Street. You can try all the fragrances, laid out on a side table (a privilege my dad shamelessly milks every time he visits me) and when you stump up the cash to buy some, they even spray some random scent into the bag (well what can I say, I am a sucker for service!). The Jo Malone state of mind comes at a price (30ml bottles cost £32, 100ml are £64). But to be honest, it's worth it. The scents are so powerful they last for ages. To try it is to love it. Bristol will never smell the same again.
I smelt this perfume on one of my friends and was blown away. It reminds of a perfume I wore a long time ago called Escada Sport but is much nicer. As soon as I smelt it I went out and purchased some. Yes it is a little pricey but you don't have to use a lot. It is the only perfume I have ever had that I can still smell in the morning after putting it on the night before. It lasts so well. The scent is very distinctive and is very spicy compared to other perfumes. I am very fussy over perfumes and don't ilke strong sweet scents or flowery perfumes. The next item I want to purchase is the body lotion. Once you use this perfume you will never use anything else. It is absolutely beautiful and everybody I meet comments on it. It is well worth the money.
We all like a little bit of luxury - and Jo Malone epitomises luxury for me. The perfume arrives in beautiful cream and black boxes with a lovely black ribbon around each box. Inside the box, nestled in black tissue, is a simple glass jar with a silver cap. The label is again in the distinctive cream and black. All very stylish. I tend to prefer the Blue Agarve and Cacao cologne personally but there is a wide range of fragrances to suit all skin types. However Jo Malone is an advocate of combining fragrances - layering one on top of another. Around the country there are Jo Malone shops where you can use tester strips to personliase your own fragrance from the whole range simply by using the combining technique. Although the fragrance is expensive - £32 for the smallest bottle of 30ml - it makes me feel special. I love the light fragrance of the Blue Agarve and the distinctiveness of all Jo Malone's fragrances. This is not a perfume that you will find everyone wearing - indeed I have the type of skin that makes most perfumes smell disgusting. Hiowver every employee I have spoken to from Jo Malone go out of their way to make you feel as a valued customer - determined to find you the right fragrance for you - real class!
Having previously worked for Jo Malone as a christmas temp last year I cannot praise it highly enough. I am no longer interested in the samey perfumes you find in boots, The scents available at Jo Malone are Heavenly. There are two sizes available, a 30ml for £32 or a 100ml for £64. Obviously the bigger fragrance is better value if wearing one fragrance alone is your bag, but one of the things Jo Malone offers is Variety. Not only are all of the Colognes Unisex, They can be mixed togeter to create an individual scent for each customer. A gift set of 6 is available to buy and I must say my Favourite Cologne is Blue Agava and Cocao, wherever i go I am stopped and asked what I am wearing and that people love it! I purchased Pomegranate Noir for my boyfriend it is a fantastic fragrance, I emplore you to go into that shop and just smell everything! Lime Basil and Mandarin is a best seller and suitabe for men and women who like a deeper less fruity and more citrus, woody smell There are too many fragrances for me to list, and there are some different types that are only available in Home candles which are simply magnificent, bath and body products and home and linen sprays and even an automatic air freshener! the staff are not snooty, can help you to personalise your fragrance and gifts, they offer a bespoke gift service and giftwrap beautifully in the most chic of gift boxes and bags.
If you haven't tried Jo Malone yet what is stopping you? Jo Malone produces scents and products based on clean and natural ingredients. Founded over 20 years ago by Jo Malone, she who started out doing custom facials for a select group of clients and with word of mouth this grew to over 2000 clients wanting her facials and skin care secrets. A passion of hers was to combine unusual scents to produce fabulous fragrances and her products were born when she developed the original bath oil in nutmeg and ginger as a thank you gift for her original facial clients. They loved it so much that they ordered plenty more and so the brand and concept was born. Now Jo Malone has stores worldwide and produces a wardrobe of scents that are available in perfumes, candles, bath oils, body lotions, body cremes, shower gels, soaps and shampoo & conditioners. In addition she has also brought a skin care range, which is highly rated. The frgrances come in a variety of categories and can be combined to provide a highly personalised scent. The frgrances are: Citrus: Lime Basil & Mandarin Verbenas of Provence Grapefruit Light Floral: French Lime Blossom White Jasmine & Mint Honeysuckle & Jasmine Red Roses Spicy: Vanilla & Anise Nutmeg & Ginger Amber & lavendar Black Vetyver Cafe Fruity: Pomegranate Noir Nectarine Blossom & Honey Floral; Orange Blossom Tuberose Vintage Gardenia Blue Agava & Cacao Woody: Wild Fig & Cassis 154 Sweet Lime & Cedar Vetyver Limited edition scents are released each year and if they perform well are often kept as part of the fragrance wardrobe. Purchasing anything in the shop is a real experience, service is excellent and the staff can help you through choosing a fragrance and everything including gift vouchers are wrapped beautifully in the signature cream and black bags with fragranced tissue paper. All products are provided in beautiful cream boxes tied with black ribbon - it is a real treat. The fragrance costs £32 for 30ml and £64 for 100ml. I cannot recommend Jo Malone fragrances highly enough they are unusual and use all natural ingredients and smell so much fresher than many of the more synthetic perfumes on the market. My favourite is Vintage Gardenia it reminds me of a summer day and i always get positive comments when wearing it. To receive any of the products as a gift is fabulous. Guys if you are thinking of something for Christmas you can't go far wrong at Jo Malone and even if you get the fragrance wrong as long as it hasn't been used they are normally very good at exchanging it.
Classy I first experienced a Jo Malone fragrance a couple of years ago and used the same scent for a good while (blue agava and cacao). I then bought some Pomegranate Noir body crème and used them together, what a wonderful combination! Jo Malone does encourage customers to experiment with using different fragranced creams together with scents. Initially I thought that this was simply a gimmick, but it really is worth experimenting. Any time I have visited a Jo Malone store, the assistants have been very happy to let me try as many different creams and fragrances as time allows! It really is quite amazing the number of different combinations that work together. I think that the scents do fall into two categories: daytime and nightime. Certainly in my opinion, something like the Pomegranate Noir is more suited to the evening as it has very spicy, rich tones. I have just recently bought the Lime and Basil scent (recommended to me by a number of people) and this scent I find to be very clean and refreshing- great for the office or out to lunch. This has been said in other reviews, but I would reiterate that once you find the Jo Malone scent(s) for you, it is very difficult to persuade yourself to buy something different- even if it is less expensive. Finally, I would like to mention that Jo Malone does some wonderful gift boxes with miniature scents. Not cheap, but a great special gift for a good friend or a relative who loves luxury!
Buy Jo Malone at your peril - once you have tried this high quality brand you will find it very hard to go elsewhere! I first came across Jo Malone when I was getting married - my best friend lent me her blue agava and cacao perfume to wear as my "something borrowed" on my big day! Shortly after the wedding I bought my own version of the scent. It is a lovely perfume, long lasting - one application lasts all day! There is a floral overtone which is fresh and long lasting. There is a gorgeous under tone of chocolate from the Cacao! Perfumes for her The women's range is very wide, ranging from the classic floral range (Orange Blossom, tea rose etc) through the fruity (Grapefruit, pomegramette etc), through to some which are almost herby (Verdana de Provence). Perfumes for him Apparently all of the scents are unisex but do you know any bloke who would wear Red rose perfume? The more masculine scents include Amber and Lavender which my husband wears - again it lasts all day and everyone, and I mean everyone notices how good he smells when he is wearing it. Shall we just say I find him irresistable? Others include Black Vetyver Cafe cologne and fig and cassis. Accessories You can buy both perfumes which come only in one type - eau de parfum. There are also body creams, candles, soaps and room sprays in many of the scents. Ingrediants Jo Malone is a natural brand - there will be no nasty chemicals here - just gorgeous essence of fruits, flowers, herbs and other natural sources. Fragrance Combining What is probably a clever marketing ploy on the behalf of the proudly British Brand is frangrance combining. Visit a store or the website and you will be treated to the idea of fragrance combining. You either combine two different colognes or perhaps use a bath oil / body lotion and a perfume to create your own "signature scent". There are suggestions of "fragrance combining for men" and "favourite fragrance combining" . For my Blue Agava and Cacao they suggest mixing with Verbena de Provence for a fresh fragrance (for daytime) and with Amber and Lavender for a warm fragrance (for the evening). you can buy a "favourites" box which contains the best sellers for combining - a great gift for a Jo Malone virgin! Why should you visit the stores? The service is second to none, Staff will spend as long as it takes with you to find a scent that suits you. First they will use cards to let you smell the scents, there are plenty of coffee beans which they will let you smell afterwards to cleanse the pallet so to speak. Then they will try your short list on you and ive you their honest opinion! Not all of the scents suit everyone! Grapefruit reacts badly with my skin for example! The staff will suggest that you walk around for up to an hour before you buy the scent to see how it settles down. Normally perfume sales people can't wait to make the sale! Other services The stores also offer relaxation services such as hand massages. If you buy a bottle of perfume and leave your details you may well receive a voucher for a free hand massage through the post - I received one and it was wonderful - 30 minutes of free bliss! The price I am afraid that I am saving the worst news for last. The perfume is not cheap - 30 ml bottles cost £30 and 100ml £60. you can also purchase gift sets - ranging in price depending on what you purchase, for example candles, with a bath oil and a perfume! Overall The lap of luxury - the best of British (not cheap but every one deserves a treat!)
I agree wholeheartedly with the other reviewers - once you get hooked by these fragrances, everything else pales into insignificance. Christmas 2006 I was given a beautiful deep cream & black carrier bag from my husband's boss as a 'thank you' for putting up with the hours he worked! Nestled in the black tissue paper inside, were two boxes beautiful in their simplicity - one with shower gel, one with perfume, both in Amber & Lavender. At this point I'd not heard of Jo Malone, but the following morning I used the shower gel & couldn't believe that the scent was still with me by the evening! The following Christmas my husband took me to Selfridges to buy something 'a little less masculine' & was dazzed & confused by the choice - I wanted them ALL! I ended up with Lime, Basil & Manderine - a great everyday scent, but not as powerful as the Amber & Lavender. This Christmas I got Pommegranate Noir & signed up for the email updates. I got one this week advertising Dark Amber & Ginger Lily and I can honestly say I cannot think of another range of products that would have me boarding a train for London! Pour some of the bath soak in a hot bath after the kids have gone to bed & feel like a millionaire! Gorgeous! I understand the company has been bought by Estee Lauder, which seems a shame, but so far I can see no change.
I have now used eight different Jo Malone fragrances and have love them all. There seems to be a fragrance for every occasion, mood and season. There is one drawback however, I now do not like any other fragrance! I have tried, and hard, because a bottle of Jo Malone perfume is not cheap, but now, everything else smells artificial, cheap and chemically. The body creams and lotions, shower gels and bath oils feel wonderfully luxurious, and the scent lingers on all day. In some instances it is nice to use a body cream or lotion of one scent with a different perfume - the Jo malone shop staff can advise you about combining. My top favourites for light, sunny everyday scents are: Nectarine blossom and honey red roses White jasmine and mint Sweet lime and cedar For summer evenings Lotus blossom and water lilly For winter day time Nutmeg and ginger For gorgeous wintery evenings Pomegranate noir Black vetyver cafe I adore these perfumes and found that when I was post baby plump and un-interested in buying clothes, these perfumes made me feel wonderful. The only slight problem I've had is that the shelf life of some of them isn't that long, so definitely use them up and don't be too sparing if you've bought a large bottle
I live in a cloud of Jo Malone's red roses. This is a staple in my handbag and layers beautifully with any high street or designer fragrance or as is often the case, carries itself. JM offers such a wonderful range of scents and the instructive staff are always helpful in understanding the lost art of layering and take you through a personal walkthrough of their product range. There is no disputing the quality of the fine essences and oils used by JM as the scent lingers long after the first spray. (I love putting on a scarf I was wearing a week earlier and smelling the lingering bouquet on the fabric). They are expertly blended, innovative fragrances verging on the nostalgic referring to classic clean notes of grapefruit, lime blossom, orange and fresh spring blossoms or heavier earthier scents like cedar and other woody tones. I am personally more of a sweet and citrus kind of girl so pomegranate body lotion and rose layered over me for a sweet, clean and edible scent. They are, considering the quality, a fairly priced product and I hope to treat myself to a few more varied bottles this year.
After receiving some Jo Malone creams and perfumes for Christmas and loving the difference of them compared to other beauty ranges I decided to investigate their fragrances more and was excited with what I discovered. To me, the Jo Malone range or experience as I like to call it is synonymous with style and luxury. She produces a range of colognes, bath oils, candles etc all with very different smells and combinations. She has a number high end stores in London, as well as outlets in various airports and also sells her products via the internet at www.jomalone.co.uk. Her products are expensive but very good and for a treat or a special occasion I think they make the perfect gift. According to her website, Jo Malone started in the business well over twenty years ago when she began to make products out of her home to use when giving facials to a handful of clients. Like most good quality products and people, word got round about Jo and she soon had over 200 clients all asking for her services. Fast forward a couple of years to 1994 when the first Jo Malone store was opened in London. This is what the website says about her fragrances. "Every Jo Malone scent has a unique story and originality all of its own. Based on an experience, each fragrance tantalises and challenges the senses, you're sure to find the inspirations behind them both intriguing and inviting. Although every scent is truly individual and can be enjoyed when worn on its own, each fragrance is also designed to be worn with another, a concept captured through the unique Jo Malone philosophy of Fragrance Combining." I will go onto the Fragrance Combining later but first I wanted to look at the way they describe their fragrances. I love the fact that each one has a story behind it. It's almost like once you purchase a certain fragrance from her range you will have a story to tell about it too or it will form part of your story. Smell is such a powerful emotion. I always associate certain smells with certain times or events in my life and whenever I smell that smell again it transports me back to that time immediately and brings back so many memories when I smell it. The Jo Malone fragrance line is made up of a number of different categories depending on the kind of smell you are looking for. These are as follows: Spicy Woody Fruity Citrus Light Green Floral Floral For example, if you take a look at the citrus fragrances which are some of my favourite you will see they have varieties such as Sweet Lime and Cedar and Verbenas of Provence. When describing the Sweet Lime and Cedar for example it is said to be inspired by the diverse flavours of Thai cooking, what a great way to describe a fragrance and will certain conjour up lots of different memories for different people. Fragrance combining is basically just like it sounds, mixing two different scents on your body to create your own smell, or bespoke signature scent as Jo Malone likes to call it. According to their website this allows you to express yourself and your individuality. I really like this idea as just about every girl I know likes to experiment with perfumes and make ups to create a look or smell different to that of everybody else. Jo Malone recommends different ways to achieve this signature scent. You can either apply one perfume over another after it has dried or take a bath using an essential oil of one scent and then applying a body cream of another scent. They like the philosophy of fragrance as being like a little black dress or classic black suit, adaptable and versatile and can be worn at any time for any occasion. They do have tips on their website as to what fragrances are good to combine with others but I like the idea or trying it yourself, it's more fun and personal that way. The colognes do not come cheap unfortunately but they are very long lasting, a little goes a long way, especially if you have a few different ones and use them in combination. A 30ml bottle is £29.50 and a 100ml bottle is £61.
Some years ago, I read a book by Ruth Rendell in which she mentioned that the main female character was wearing "Gardenia by Jo Malone". At the time I wasn't familiar with Jo Malone perfumes and so the next time I was in Manchester, I decided to check out the counter in Harvey Nichols. I discovered that the perfume is actually called Vintage Gardenia. It was a warm, sunny day and I was immediately lifted by the floral combination of gardenia and tuberose with cardamom, sandalwood and myrrh. This captivating blend was an instant winner and I bought a bottle there and then. I continued to wear this for special occasions over the summer months. The following year a friend of mine bought me a bottle of Jo Malone's latest perfume, Pomegranate Noir for my birthday. This is a very sophisticated perfume and was inspired by a red silk dress and the intriguing character of pomegranate. It combines pomegranate with raspberry, plum, pink pepper and patchouli and frankincense to create a very sensuous and intoxicating scent. For me this was another winner from Jo Malone. Now possessing two Jo Malone perfumes with the wow factor, I was curious to check out more and was overwhelmed by the range. The perfumes are divided into six categories: - Spicy Citrus Fruity Light Green Floral Floral Woody I didn't know here to start and then I noticed a Fragrance Combing Set, which consisted of six 9mil bottles of different colognes that can be used individually or combined together. The cost of this set £52, which I thought very reasonable and so I bought it. Combining perfumes was completely new to me but with my new purchase, I was ready to experiment. The combination set consisted of Amber and Lavender from the spicy range, Grapefruit and Lime Basil and Mandarin from the citrus range, Pomegranate Noir from the fruity range and Orange Blossom and Blue Agava and Cacao from the floral range. I have to say that all these perfumes smell wonderful on their own. Jo Malone does give some tips on combining, but really the buyer is encourage to find a mixture to suit them. In other words you can design very personal cologne not only to suit the individual, but also the occasion, the weather and the outfit. Grapefruit combined with Lime Basil is really refreshing and great to wear during the day. I've discovered that Pomegranate Noir together with another new purchase, White Jasmine and Mint is intoxicating and great for evenings. So far this is my favourite combination but my experimentation goes on. Of the six categories, most contain three or four perfumes. At my last count there were nineteen perfumes and I am in possession of nine. I adore White Jasmine and Mint on its own too. It's clean and refreshing and very, very elegant. Each time I visit the store I make sure that I'm not wearing perfume in order that I can test and smell the ones I don't have. Red Roses is one that I think should be worn on its own. It does indeed small like a garden of fresh red roses. The bottles come in two sizes, 30ml will cost you £30 and 100ml at a cost of £59. I don't think this is expensive and Jo Malone is in fact cheaper than some more popular and run of the mill perfumes. Jo Malone also has a range of body lotions, bath oils, and shower gels, shampoos and conditioners as well as luxury candles and home scents. The combination technique can be used by applying one kind of lotion or bath oil and then using a different perfume. Jo Malone provides a gift wrapping service and all items are wrapped in black tissue and come in matching bags and boxes. Jo Malone is only sold in some major cities. In Manchester there are counters in Harvey Nichols and Selfridges but all items can be bought online. For nearest stockists or to buy online go to www.jomalone.co.uk I have never been so excited about a perfume collection. The ones I own and the ones I've tested all have the wow factor. My aim is to possess all nineteen. The perfume is long lasting too. I can spray in the morning and still smell it by evening when the scent is still fresh and not stale as some perfumes would be. Because I can design my own distinct fragrance I can't see myself buying anything more than Jo Malone for the foreseeable future especially as she is adding to her collection all the time with at least one new perfume a year. I highly recommended Jo Malone perfumes, worn alone or combined, the number of combinations are endless and you can have lots of fun in the making. The candles are a little expensive but smell divine and last a long time. Enjoy!
