Joop! is a German company that was founded in 1986 and specialised in clothes. Like alot of brands they later went on to develop their own fragrance.
Joop! Homme was launched in 1989 and is still going strong today. I say strong, maybe I should not say that, its still on sale. Sales I am sure are consistent. It comes in a pink bottle, yes you read that right, and its for men. Even the spray is pink. Appealing to the feminine side of men?
Top notes: Bergamot, Cinnamon. Middle Notes: Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Honeysuckle. Base notes: Sandalwood, Vetiver, Amber, Tonka Bean, Musk & Vanilla
The bottle is, to put it bluntly, boring. There is no shape to it, barely anything thought gone into it. From a distance and if you removed the name, you would put it down as a cheap brand.
The fragrance is quite strong and sweet. Initial thoughts is this might be best aimed for those getting into fragrance. Someone from the younger generation. With all the notes put together, you have a strong smell of Cherry Strawberries. Vanilla comes to the front aswell.
As mentioned that it was strong, it means that last-ability is good and you can expect to get close to 10 hours of fragrance.
Summing up then. I would recommend this for the younger generation due to the fruity smell. Its fairly cheap to purchase and colourful to look at. I suspect that if you got your 14-16yr old son to wear it, that the girls would find it attractive. As you get old, woman will go for the more masculine smell and this does not cater for that. The bottle is boring aswell. But it does last so you do not need to keep topping up.
I bought my 75ml bottle of Joop! Homme late last year when it was available for half price at a shade under £20.00 instore at Boots. I'd heard of the brand before, it's been around for years as far as I'm aware but I'd never bought or tried it for myself, however the combination of an attractive price plus some very clever advertising swayed me into seeing what it was like so I parted with my cash and brought my purchase home.
"Real men wear Pink", or so the advertising tells us and as Joop! Homme sponsor a number of programmes on the Fox channel on Sky and feature in every ad break and indent I think I was perhaps a little brainwashed when I decided I had to try it out for myself. It's description isn't something that immediately appeals to me, I don't usually go for 'Fruity' fragrances and prefer 'Woody' notes on my skin and on first sampling of Joop I have to admit that I wasn't immediately taken to it. It opens with a definite fruity flourish, it's perhaps a little too sweet for me straight away and the Honey inclusions are more than obvious but thankfully it does settle down to reveal deeper middle and bottom notes of tobacco and Cinnamon which give it a slightly spicy edge that takes off the immediate sweetness and soon calms it down to be noticeable but not quite as obvious.
It has good longevity, a spray on a morning lasts throughout the day and compared to some fragrances that I own I have to admit that I am impressed with just how long lasting Joop! is and I can see why it's very popular with many people. It's a fragrance that gets noticed and for someone wanting to make an impression then I think it could well appeal, for me it's a little too strong and a little too on the synthetic side for it to be something that I wear all the time and though I do think it's rather pleasant it doesn't have the wow! factor for me and isn't a fragrance that I reach for day after day. I think it's better suited for night wear then everyday casual wear and for a night out then it's perhaps a little more appropriate than for wearing at the office for example and would probably suit a younger man than the more mature one though this comes down to personal tastes obviously and I'm sure many older men would want to wear Joop! all the time.
For me it's a little too far removed from the fragrances that I usually go for and as I tend to buy the ones that are deep and Woody or light and Fresh I think Joop! sits somewhere in between and is neither one nor the other and though described by Davidoff (it's manufacturer) as an Oriental and Woody fragrance it isn't deep enough for me and doesn't really suit me or my skin. It's nice though, don't get me wrong, Joop! is primarily a fruity, vibrant fragrance that definitely has it's appeal it's just not really one that I would buy again though for something different I'm glad I have it my collection.
As far as the bottle goes it comes as shown above, it's attractively designed and doesn't look out of place in my fragrance collection. It's not an expensive fragrance, Boots apparently offered it at half price at £20.00 though looking around online for this review I've noticed that that seems to be the price it retails for from other places anyway so it's not one that's going to be break the bank or be an expensive mistake. Given that it's rather a strong fragrance you don't need to spray much of it to get the desired effect so a 75ml bottle should last quite a bit of time before it needs replenishing and although I personally wouldn't buy Joop! Homme again it's one of those things that is all about personal taste and as it's been around for ages I imagine that it's very popular with many people.
Overall then Joop! Homme made a nice change for me but it isn't a fragrance I'd buy again, I only every wear mine on an occasional basis and it isn't my first choice when reaching for something to wear. It gets 3 stars as a rating from me here representing 'average' though I'm sure that to many it would be 5 stars all the way.
Available all over from Perfume stockists, High Street chemists and Supermarkets, finding it won't be a problem though prices will vary depending on where you buy and what size bottle you go for.
Thanks for reading my review
People around me smell. Some of them smell terrible, most of them smell normal and the occasional few always smell really good. My partner is one of the latter. He has a couple of fragrances that really stand out but the one that gets the most attention is the same one that my Dad wears. Imagine my sheer horror when I realised the sexy smell from him was the same my Dad wore. I should probably seek therapy for that. For now I will take solace in the fact that "Joop!" smells completely different on the two of them.
===Who's that guy?===
Until recently I had thought that Joop! Was just a fragrance. It was the lovely Malu that opened my eyes to the error of my thinking. Fashion designer Wolfgang Joop founded his designer company in 1986 (the year I graced you all with my presence) in Germany and like most other fashion houses, diversified from clothes into accessories, to fragrances. He also has a very flamboyant taste in neck scarves. Wolfgang no longer has anything to do with the company, selling off all his shares in 2001 after which the company swiftly went down the pan and was divided into lots of little bits and sold to various buyers. Fabby. Joop! was one of the earlier fragrances to come out being released in 1989.
The bottle is a lovely thing. The front is flat, the back curves round. It sits really nicely in your hand. It's quite a heavy bottle (especially when it's full) as the glass is quite thick. The trademark "Joop!" is on the front in green writing. The nicest thing about the bottle is that it's a gorgeous pinky/purple colour. The more you use, the more pink it looks, but a full bottle leans much more towards the purple side. There's a large lid on top which is easy to pull off to without being too loose and it reveals your spray nozzle. It sits quite sturdily on surfaces so there's not any worry that it's going to fall over like some other bottles I've had which is fantastic.
Top Notes: Orange Blossom, Lemon, Bergamot, Mandarin.
Middle/Heart Notes: Heliotrope, Cinnamon, Jasmine, Lily-of-the-Valley.
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Vanilla, Patchouli, Tonka Bean
The first burst of this is very strong. There's a fairly alcoholic smell for a few seconds before it calms down and allows the really flowery, fruity smell come out. It's teetering towards overpowering but not quite getting there (unless you bathe in it, of course). It's a really warm and sweet smell and, if I'm being honest, it would probably quite suit women too. Not to say that it's a girly smell, just that it's not incredibly manly either. It's almost gender neutral. I don't think it'd be suitable for really young people; it's definitely a grown-up and serious fragrance, quite deep and sensual without being overtly sexy. It really is a beautiful scent. I don't know that I'd wear it during the day, but it would be more than suitable for a night time/ going out/ special occasion scent. It'd go well with a suit! The smell doesn't really change throughout the day if you do choose to wear it, it simply becomes less prominent. Other aftershaves and smellies I have smell completely different at the end of the day than they do at the start of the day. This one just gently fades. I have seen a lot of people online who think the fragrance is too sweet, but I disagree. I find it to be strong, but not overpowering or sickly in any way.
===Is it noticeable?===
Yes. By far this is the most noticeable fragrance that resides in our drawer full of bottles. It's almost infuriating since Allan wears it more than I do, he get's ten times more compliments than whatever I'm wearing and I get completely ignored by everyone's noses! When you wear it, the smell really follows you around. You don't need to be up close and personal to get a really nice flowery (but manly) waft from this stuff and it always draws people into commenting on it.
===How long does it last?===
Forever and ever amen. Maybe not THAT long, but definitely all day. It starts off quite strong, but, as I said, fades over the course of the day. I can put this on in the morning and still smell it no problem when I go home at night, the only difference being how close I need to get to my wrist to smell it. It's not like my bottle of crave that leaves it's smell on clothes for days if it's allowed. It lasts a day, after that you can't really detect it on your clothes unless you've gone crazy with the application. In case you haven't realised, more than a couple of squirts of this will probably have people coughing as you walk past. It doesn't need a lot to get the job done.
This stuff is quite well priced. You can pick up 125ml for around £30 which is 25ml more than a lot of other scents at that price. Smaller bottles are cheaper, obviously, so keep an eye out and you might pick up a good deal with this one. If you wait till around Christmas time, you can generally always find this stuff in a box set with other "Joop!" products like shower gels for around £25-£30 so if you really are a fan of the scent, it'd be a good time to stock up!
The ingredients to this stuff are apparently the most elusive thing on the planet. I couldn't find them on the web anywhere, though I was using my works computer which has only barely heard of "the internet" so it's possible that's why I couldn't find anything. As such I've had to rake the box out. Joy. If you don't care what's in it, feel free to skip this bit! If, however, you have any weird allergies and need to check, here's the list:
alcohol denat, aqua/ water, eau parfum fragrance, allantoin, alpha-isomethyl,ionone, BHT, bisabolol, Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, butylene glycol, cinnamal, citral, coumarin, eugenol, farnesol, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) extract, hydronycitronellal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carbonaldehyde, limonene, linalool, peg-10 hydrogenated castor oil, peg-5 ethylhenanoate, trideceth-9, d&c red no33 (CI 17200), ED&C blue no1 (CI 12090)
I really love this stuff. My friends really love this stuff. My family really loves this stuff. I really can't fault it. It smells great on both my partner and I and the compliments tend to roll in when it's being worn. It lasts for ages and leaves a lovely flowery (but not girly) trail around you. The bottle looks good and is really good quality. There's really nothing I can say that's bad about this stuff, so it's five stars out of five from me!
Over the years I've worn various different fragrances, sometimes I wear them again and sometimes I don't. I usually make sure I have about 3 different eau de toilettes or after shaves on my shelf at one time, and I usually switch brands quite frequently. While other brands have came and went, Joop! is something I have stuck with for a number of years, and because I love the smell of it so much I think it will remain on my shelf for years to come. I started wearing Joop! about 10 years ago when I was trying on different fragrances in Boots one day, I loved the cinnamon smell and thought "that's the one for me!".
==What is it?==
Joop! first came on the market in 1989, it is part of the Joop brand created by Wolfgang Joop in 1981, the exclamation mark was put in to differentiate between Wolfgang and the brand. The eau de toilette is pink in colour, and it's for men (how revolutionary!).
Joop! comes in a nice pink box with "JOOP!" written in light green on the front. The bottle is designed by Peter Schmidt, who has also designed bottles for Davidoff including the Cool Waters fragrance. The bottle is semi circular with a thick round purple lid and the words "JOOP!" and "HOMME" displayed on the front of the bottle in light green. The bottle has a pink tint about it when some of the fragance has been emptied, although this could be due to the residue of the perfume(Yes I think it maybe time to invest in another bottle sharpish).
Orange blossom, Jasmine, Honeysuckle
Sandalwood, Vetiver, Patchouli, Amber, Tonka bean, Musk, Vanilla.
Prices are different depending on the size of the bottle.
30ml bottle - £15.00
75ml bottle - £17.00
125ml bottle - £23.00
You can purchase Joop! at various different places such as; Boots, amazon.co.uk, & The Perfume Shop, I usually like to shop around for a good deal, as sometimes you can get some good bargains out there, you just have to look for them.
The first thing that hits you when trying this on, is the strong cinnamon smell, it smells almost clinical, but in a nice sweet way. It is a really strong fragrance so you don't really need to put a lot of it on (a little really does go a long way, a 125ml bottle usually lasts me about a year), and it is so strong, I can still smell it the next day (I like to think that's a good thing). Whenever I wear this, people either ask me what I'm wearing or they say "Have you got Joop! on?", which is usually followed by "You smell nice!" (always a good thing to hear). No other smell compares to it and I would definitely purchase again and again, in fact, the other fragrances on my shelf are merely back ups that I wear when I fancy a little change.
I first used Joop a few years back, when my parents bought me a small 75ml bottle. As soon as I had used it, I was gobsmacked. The smell was beautiful! The best smelling aftershave I have ever smelt.
When you buy Joop, you usually get it in a small rectangular box. Inside that box, is the 75ml bottle of Joop Homme. The bottle has a twist lid, it easily opens, and easily tightens. Some men would be put off because the colour of the bottle is dark purple (they may think it's a girls aftershave). But after doing my research, 'homme' is French for 'man'.
The scent is very potent, so don't spray loads before you go out. I know for a fact, ladies love the smell of Joop on a man. You will smell the fragrance all day long, but don't be put off by this as it isn't harsh on your nose. When spraying Joop, it is already fruity, but after it has dried, you get an even fruitier, sweet scent.
You can buy a 75ml bottle of Joop Homme off eBay for around £16 and as you only spray a little bit at a time, this bottle can last a good month or two. That's just a quick search, if you shop around, who knows, you might get it even cheaper. Stores such as Boots and Superdrug also would stock Joop.
This is a very strong fragrance and not something for the office or everyday use, personally i believe its for the younger generation. Its powerful sweet smell is very attractive to young girls and this is a great fragrance for a night out.
It will last pretty much all day on your skin and be careful not too use too much, the smell is consistent and there isn't much depth too it, what you smell is what you get!
You can get this quite cheap now and id say if your less than 30 its worth having for those youthful cheeky night or days out, expect compliments from the girls as like I said this its a fave with them.
some people would say it smells tacky, and I know where there coming from, however it is a high quality fragrance and JOOP are a very reputable company, it is supposed to be a bit bold and sickly as like I said its not an everyday fragrance.... there's no subtlety with this fragrance...just pure impact, and sometimes that's just what you want.
If you have read my other reviews, you would see that I have already reviewed Joop go and Joop jump! I normally use Joop go as my day to day fragrance and Joop jump as my going out smell. I have always liked Joop products so thought that I could try another one of there range! I saw this online and read a few reviews on it. In general people liked this product, so I looked around online and saw this. The price wasn't too high so I bought it. I am glad I did because it's a really good product.
The smell is very different to any cologne I have smelt before. When I first sprayed it, I wasn't too sure what to make of it, it was very strong and I thought that I may have wasted my money! I was completely wrong, it smells great on skin. You only need to spray a very small amount onto your body. I can almost guarantee you that the smell will last all day! Even after sport activities.
The one thing you know when buying Joop is that you are buying quality! I believe this fragrance is not there best, I don't like I as much as there ther ones, but I still wear it and like the smell. This is there classic one and most people will go for this one. It's popular and I think worth the money.
The downside to Joop homme is that if you spray too much on you, you will smell very overpowering and it isn't that nice. Joop homme is a strong smell, it's not very sweet. Its not a summer smell, I think it's a winter smell.
The bottle is very nice and the colour is also nice. I think it looks great on my shelf and I would recommend this product to anyone. It's a grown up smell so I think it would suit the elder man. I think it would make great present for any man though! Give it a try and I don't think you will be dissapointed.
I am very satisfied with my product and I hope that this review has helped you decide on it.
Thanks for reading!
I have been wafting the scent of Joop! Homme around south of england for the last 2 years and i struggle to think of a single day when i have not used it. The smell is pleasant to most noses and not overpowering if used sparingly. The fragrance is slightly spicy with some floral hints, manly enough but could pass as a ladies scent if any girls fancy taking a risk.
Joop! Homme is widely available in shops and online making it an easy to pick up bottle when your supplies run low saving you from breaking out into sweat if you have an upcoming function requiring a bit of 'scenting up'. A bottle can be picked up for £23-30.
Joop! Homme is reasonably priced and one bottle should last you upto 6 months if used on a regular basis and the good price and availability means you'll have a fresh new bottle on the day your last bottle runs dry.
Overall a good fragrance, easy on the nose that comes in a handy spray bottle at a reasonable price. Guarenteed not to turn faces sour as you waft past people in the street and from experience you'll hear the comment "mmm is that Joop your wearing?".
Due to the success of Joop! Homme, a variety of other Joop fragrances have been released but for me, i know i'll never go wrong with good old Homme.
Conclusion: Good reliable fragrance that will never turn heads away as you pass, easy to obtain at a decent price. Would make the perfect gift for him on Valentines day or birthday.
I am not normally a great fan of Eau de Toilette but my brother received some of this for christmas a year ago. After smelling it I was really surprised at how much I liked the scent and bought myself a bottle.
The nearest way of describing the scent is slightly sharp with a really fruity scent on top. The perfume is also a great quality as unlike other perfumes i own it tends to last all day - It can even last longer!
The perfume comes in a really attractive bottle and is a really bright pink colour - I am sure that this perfume is a hit with most ladies!
As with most perfumes it is quite expensive but can be found in some high street stores on sale quite regularly - My tip keep your eyes open and don't rush in and buy it at full price!
The one disadvantage but this is personal is that the scent does tend to get on my nerves after a while so I don't where it to often - In other words it is an amazing perfume in small doses.
Joop Homme is unusual in that it is a distinctive fragrance which is not comparable to anything else on the market yet it is also a timeless classic! It first hit our stores in 1989. It is a real standard for masculine sensitvity and sensuality. It has notes of cinnamon, oriental spices and orange blossom which come together to produce a distinctive, sweet (but not sickly) and spicy fragrance whih in my experience is liked by most people who smell it on me! It has a genuine longevity which, because of it's strength, needs only a minimal initial application and can easily last for a day whilst keeping it's pleasent frgrance.
It comes pckaged in a glossy purple / pink box which simply displays the fragrance name on the front. Inside is the bottle, which, in keeping with its sensual and sensitive fragrance contains the pink coloured eau de toilette. The bottle has a semi circle shape with nice smooth edges which make it very ergonomicaly freindly. The JOOP! logo is present in white letters on the front. The bottle, which has pump action in the eau de toilette is finished off with a large curved cap which is formed from purple plastic.
The fragrance is also available in after shave form as well as body / shower wash. The cost is around £30 but it is often seen as part of a gift set that are often excellent value.
Although it is a veteran fragrance it has demonstarted it's timeless stature by its presence as a main sponsor of dram on FX.
I had not even smelt this until I met my other half. Now I love it. The scent is warm but sweet however not too feminine. It is pleasant from the moment you spray it right through to a few hours later when it is still significant and pleasing.
The smell of joop for men or joop homme as they call it is one that reminds me of flowery cola cubes with a manly and sensual hint, if its possible for cola to smell that way. I like this one for winter and autumn and think the aroma is very long lasting when I wear it.
I have had this in my mini gift sets and had 2 bottles of it. I liked it a lot and enjoyed the smell of it when I had it on. I think its a full aroma that won't be as good for a younger guy because it gives off a confident aroma that is better for guys in their mid twenties onwards.
The fragrance very strong. I think you need to wear less of this when you put it on. I put loads on when I first got it and it was way too much and very over the top. When I put a small bit on me it was much better and got more positive comments every where I had it on me.
I like the sweet and citrus bit that I can detect when this goes on me at first. The citrus is bright when the fragrance is new on but it gets softer and more flowery in a few minutes. I think the warm spiced cinnamon in this is good and it fights away in the middle of the sweet flowers and cola aroma in this.
I think this is a long lasting aroma and if I put it on in the morning I can still detect it there a good 12 hours later. It does change as the hours go by and gets softer but its still there.
If you get it on your clothes it will stick to them like glue. The only way to remove it is to wash them. Mind how you apply it if you are wearing a suit or clothing that can only be dry cleaned because it will stay on the clothing and you will have to put up with it until you get your suit or what ever cleaned.
I think the way this smells is very potent. The sweetness can be too much if you put a lot on. If you are careful with this it can smell great, too much will make you a bit head achy.
I would recommend this for day or night wear. It lasts well and you need a small amount for it to smell good.
The bottle and box are a bit of an odd combo because the box is a bit pink and red and the fragrance is the same. Don't let that put you off the fragrance. I know its sweet but its blokey enough. A 75ml bottle is about £25 and I thin thats good.
If I had to describe the smell of Joop id have to say its kind of a strong, potent, young, fresh, fruity, summery smell that conveys a confident and strong personality. It really is a distinct smell and once you get to know it you can smell it on people a mile away. The smell will stay with you for ever as its one of those that you can easily pick out on someone if they have it on and literally think to yourself "thats blatantly JOOP!".
Word of warning though - Dont spray it to excessivley on white shirts as it can leave pink marks!
This fragrance is a good one to have in anyones perfume armoury, It's cheap (normally around £20 - £25 for a good sized bottle), smells good and people will comment on it!
I'm sure a few times when I've used it though I've had wasps chasing me lol.... that may just be coincidence though.
The package and bottle design are nothing extroadinary if thats what you look for in a fragrance but overall it is reasonably presentable and can be purchased from all main high street stores.
An average sized bottle lasts me quite a few months as its more just a summer time fragrance for me.
well what to say about this particular fragrance.
i dont dislike it completely but its become such a common fragrance for men that it doesnt do anything for me anymore.
you can buy this product for i believe £29 from wilkinson for the big 125ml bottle, which is such a fair price, cause we all know how expensive perfumes can be.
my partner wears this fragrance much to my distaste so dont want to announce my hatered for it to much but i find it a watery kind of smell, you need to use a fair few spray for this smell to develop and i find wheres of so quickly, maybe thats why the big bottle is so cheap because you need to use so much of it just to be able to smell it.
It a fair price for a big bottle, and very easy to get hold of it as even supermarkets stock it.
The smell goes away to fast.
I'm not sure what possessed me to buy a bottle of Joop other than the fact I used to wear it as a teenager and it was cheap in semichem when I was in buying some paracetamol on my lunch break. I actually hadn't seen a bottle of original Joop in years and I remembered it was my favourite aftershave for a good couple of years so I decided to treat myself to it.
For those that do not know Joop is the original men's fragrance from the German designer Wolfgang Joop and was a bit of a classic in the 90's but seems to have fallen out of fashion since then. There are now newer versions such as Joop jump which are nice but don't have the distinctiveness of the original.
The bottle is just a clear glass bottle but the colour of the actual aftershave is a little different from most men's fragrance being that it is pinky purply in colour. It is definitely looks for a young fun person and it isn't boring and staid like some other aftershave bottles.
The fun and young feeling of the bottle carries on to the scent. Apparently it is "inspired by frozen vodka and coriander leaves". I really do not know where these fragrance designers come up with this nonsense but it makes a good tag line. I thought vodka didn't have any scent?
The actual aftershave contains Bergamot, cinnamon, amber, tonka beans, musk and vanilla. Personally I struggle to actually smell these scents and I actually know what most of these smell like.
When you first spray the aftershave the first thing that hits you is the sweetness of it, it is actually sickly sweet but it soon settles down and becomes a little more subtle. The sweetness does remain but it isn't quite as cloyingly sweet and it actually becomes really pleasant.
I would definitely say this is more of a young aftershave due to the sweetness and due to the fact that it is also very strong smelling and a few sprays is more than enough to last for hours.
I'm really pleased that I bought this again as I had forgot just how much I like it. The smell won't be to everyone's taste just due to the fact it is so distinctive and really does smell nothing like anything else that is available which makes a nice change from the multitudes of aftershaves that are available that all smell exactly the same as each other.
Prices vary and I only paid £14.99 for my bottle but a look online shows it seems to be retailing at between £25 and £30 for a 75ml bottle so it pays to look around.
Joop Homme EDT Gender: for Men / It is a timeless statement of individuality and masculine sensulaity / Its combination of tobacco and fruits have produced a scent that has been a well-loved favourite.
