Advantages: smells 'lush'
Disadvantages: can stain clothing
Anyone who regularly has the misfortune to read my ramblings will know that I have an ever so slight addiction to Lush products. My bathroom contains many brightly coloured smelly objects and I have even bought a special box to keep all my lovely Lush stuff safe (especially from my 12 year old daughter). Even though this box is overflowing at the moment I have just managed to order another forty quid’s worth of stuff from the website, don’t tell my husband as he is as concerned about my Lush addiction as he is about my internet addiction (we have had words!). Mind you I suppose he’ll find out, as it was his credit card I used!!
One of the (many) things I have ordered is a new bottle of Karma fragrance as I have just about finished my existing bottle. I have had it for over a year and have worn it nearly every day, so I think that at £16.50 for 30g, its pretty good value.
According to Lush’s blurb, ‘Karma smells of Kensington High Street on a summers afternoon in the 70s’. Well I don’t know about that but I do know that it reminds me of the Handyside Arcade that used to be in the Haymarket area of Newcastle, where all the Hippie shops used to be. It used to smell predominantly of something called hippie juice and naughty (illegal) substances; at the time I couldn’t stand the smell of patchouli, but I think that was because it was so overpowering. Lush’s Karma contains patchouli oil but has been subtly blended with orange, pine, lavender and lemongrass oils to create a heady, sort of Middle Eastern aroma (not that I’ve been to the Middle-East, but I have a vivid imagination).
Karma is an incredibly strong dramatic perfume, a little of it goes a long way. I find that if I apply it first thing in the morning, others can still smell it in the evening. Its not the sort of perfume that goes unnoticed. I have a friend who likes to walk behind me when I’m wearing Karma, as she loves to have a good sniff (I do try to remember not to fart when she is doing this!). As with all Lush products it is packaged simply. It’s in a plain glass bottle, half circular in shape with a gold coloured top. The perfume is dark amber in colour and quite oily on the skin, be careful as it can stain clothing, as I’ve found out on a new white top.
I find it a very sensual scent; I have noticed that it becomes more potent with body heat, especially if I’m a wee bit turned on. It makes me feel very relaxed and languid and ready for a bit of rumpy-pumpy. My poor husband knows to take his ginseng if I line up all the rest of the Karma products before my nightly bath. What with the bath ballistic, soap, bubble bar, Komba shampoo, body lotion, dusting powder and Karma fragrance, he doesn’t stand a chance, does he?
The Lush Karma range is available in all good Lush shops and via the website, lush.co.uk. The prices range from £1.80 for a bath ballistic up to £16.50 for the perfume. There are also gift sets available for £29.95 and £14.95, which contain the bubble bar, ballistic and soap along with full-sized perfume in the larger one, sample size in the smaller.
Summary: Smells dramatic
