Kenzo Flower by Kenzo Eau de Parfum

Advantages: Unique scent, good for those who like sweet palma violet scents! Decent sillage and lasting power

Disadvantages: Smells horrible in my opinion, too sweet, cloying, old fashioned

Flower by Kenzo definitely seems to be a fragrance which splits opinion and makes people either love it or hate it. Before I ever tried this perfume I was quite drawn to it as I really liked the packaging design, with a single bold poppy on a nice bright white background. I think the packaging looks fresh, clean, modern and zingy, which is how I expected the perfume to be. Unfortunately in my opinion the actual scent did not match up to my expectation at all!

The Kenzo Flower scent in my opinion smells very very sweet, cloying old fashioned and a bit sickly. Apparently poppies do not have any scent, and this perfume is how Kenzo thinks they should smell, hence the poppy on the packaging. This is a cute concept but it does not make sense to me as the overwhelming thing I get from this perfume is Parma violet, which I wouldn't associate with poppies. It also has a vanilla sweet baby powder vibe going on.

According to BaseNotes.com the notes are as follows, for those who want the full details:

Top notes:
Bulgarian rose, wild hawthorn, cassie (not sure what this is - they might mean cassis?), Palma violet

Middle notes:
Opoponax (no clue what this is) and white musk

Base notes:
Hedione, cyclosal (I don't know what these are either!)

I don't make out half of these, which is not surprising since I don't know what some of them even are. As I said, I get mainly Palma violet, vanilla and baby powder from it.

As is often the case with perfumes I don't like, it does seem to stick around for a while and has a decent strength and sillage, as I would expect from a musky perfume.

For those who do like it, I would say the powder and musk makes it seem more of a wintery scent. It seems a bit too cloying for summer in my opinion.

I would say this is definitely one to try before you buy, as it is quite unusual and you will probably love it or hate it.

Summary: Not for me
