I think by now from my reviews most people can pick up that I do love my perfume and it is one of my favourite things to review. When I got my loan in though I had to treat myself even though this is not what my student loan is for. I love getting perfumes but I do find them expensive which is why I don’t get them often but it is coming up to Christmas so I thought I’d recommend my latest purchase because you never know it might end up on some other people’s Christmas lists. So I actually found out about Kylie Minogue’s ‘Sweet Darling’ from a sample which I received. I had been in my local Boots smelling all of the latest celebrity perfumes such as Christina Aguilera’s and so on but the Kylie one was really nice and made me keep sniffing where I had sprayed all day.
Kylie Minogue is of course an international singing sensation and everyone knows her for this and a few bits of acting. She has done a lot but like most celebrities she got on the fragrance bandwagon. I don’t mind when they actually do good perfumes that smell nice but I hate when celebrities create a fragrance they probably don’t even like themselves just for quick cash in. Kylie was ill for a while with cancer and I am glad to see her back with new music and not letting this end her career, she is an icon and this perfume will no doubt sell well just for her name alone.
The one thing which is very eye catching about this perfume is the design of the box, It is fully black but on the front it has a faint lilac/pale pink hologram effect with some white décor and the bold black text saying her name and in a written scrawl almost are the words ‘Sweet Darling’. On the back of the box is a photo of Kylie and her signature which fits in really nicely with the package design as the background is a black to purple gradient effect. It has a very sophisticated look and in the shop the hologram when caught in the light glints in your eye as if to attract the consumer’s attention, well it did mine anyway.
The bottle design of this perfume is again one which has a lot of thought put into it and is very feminine. It is a nice little bottle and is almost a pearlescent glass but has a frosty lilac colour to the glass. It seems to be smoky looking but we can still see the liquid level inside the bottle. I think the way I’d describe the bottle shape is like a flattened apple but with the top cut off and the lid is a big black rectangular shape which comes off easily to display the spray top.
The perfume has a smell which I’d describe as very sweet. I’d say it has a slight hint of musk but also comes across as faintly strong as contradicting as that sounds it is true. I end to keep this perfume for wear in the evening as I feel it is too strong for daytime. I would say it’s a perfume which could be for younger people or more mature it doesn’t really have an age on it. I also like it because after one spray it doesn’t need to keep being re-applied as it seems to stay on.
It has an unusual mix of fragrance notes but once revealed I can definitely smell them more. It has top notes of passion fruit, freesia and in the centre it has notes of boronia and the most obvious smelling one cotton candy and in the base sandal wood, patchouli and vanilla.
The perfume can be purchased in all department stores and places like Boots or Superdrug, I got mine at The Perfume Shop for about £25 I think. However, if you want to go for online shopping you can buy it at http://www.passionforperfume.com where the 30ml is £19.50 and the 50ml is £25.95 and a free evening bag is given with every purchase while stocks last. They also sell a gift set which has the 30ml with a 150ml body lotion costing £19.50 which is good at this time of year. The Boots website are selling them for the same prices and also her first fragrance ‘Darling’ but they do have high delivery prices.
