OK scent, shame about the staying power

I actually got my bottle of La Senza's Discover Me... perfume in with a job lot of beauty products I bought from eBay about a year ago. I didn't really want this product, I'd only bought the items for one other thing in the job lot, but recently I've decided to get all my beauty products used up and decided I'd see what this was like.

I actually have this scent in the form of a purse spray, rather than the full sized bottle. Having checked the La Senza website, it seems they are currently only selling the product in purse spray size anyway.

The bottle is black with a metallic pink lid and it comes in a little velvet pouch to hopefully stop it becoming scratched in your handbag. I must admit that I do think the lid makes the spray look a little bit cheap and perhaps tacky, but as it's so small you can be really discreet with it and the convenience of having a small purse spray is something I love.

The official description of the scent is 'Discover me combines sweet notes of Raspberry, Blackberry and Mandarin, surrounded with floral nuances of White Jasmine and Vibrant Rose'.

When I first spray this, I can smell a fruity scent which I believe to be the raspberry. It's quite light and quite zesty and reminds me very slightly of the Soap and Glory products. Whilst there is a slight hint of blackberry, I think the raspberry dominates it and I can't smell anything that resembles mandarin in the scent at all.

As the scent settles on the skin I feel that the scent becomes sweeter and I'm sure I can smell a hint of vanilla in there. Whilst I do think I can detect a hint of rose, I can't really detect any of the jasmine in there and on the whole the fragrance smells fruity rather than floral.

I have to admit that I had expected something a little heavier and perhaps more grown up or sensual with La Senza being a lingerie brand. In actual fact I find the scent quite light and girly. Again with it coming from a brand specialising in underwear, I was expecting more of a night time scent, but this to me is very much for daytime wear. I would not wear this scent on an evening or for a date as it's just too light in my opinion.

In terms of age range, I'd say this scent is definitely more suited at the younger market - late teens to early twenties. It doesn't really have any sophistication about it and I'd say it's quite 'generic' in some ways - there are endless scents similar to this one about - Next's Pink Diamonds is quite similar, the Soap and Glory products as I mentioned earlier have the sweet, fruity tone to them and I'm sure there are others too which I can't think of at the moment.

The staying power of the fragrance isn't great. As it is so light, it only seems to stick around for a couple of hours no matter how liberally I spray it.

The handbag spray costs £8 but is currently reduced to just £4 on the La Senza website. You can also buy it from www.directcosmetics.com for £4.99. The purse spray is 15ml and as I said in the review, I don't think the full sized bottles are available any longer, so it's possible that this is being discontinued.

Overall, whilst the scent of this is nice enough, the light fruity fragrance doesn't really fit in well with the La Senza brand and the staying power is not great either. I do like the convenience of having a little purse spray like this, but in all honesty, I don't think I would buy another bottle when this runs out. I would only recommend this if you want a light, fruity daytime fragrance, not if you're looking for anything sexy or sensual and you should be aware that you will need to reapply frequently.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Sexiness in a bottle

I really do like perfume and it's something I'm more than happy to treat myself to rather often. I love to smell nice and even wear it to the gym and stuff like that cos I don''t feel right if I don't!

I spotted this in Boots for about 6 quid a bottle reduced instead of it's usual price tag of about £20.00. It felt like a bargain and after inhaling almost half a bottle which was a tester decided that I really must own it!

      The Packaging:

Well this is available in either a 100ml size which is my one or as a small purse size which is simply a long tube of fragrance and I think it's 20ml in size. I did toy with the idea of buying the purse sized one but I realised it wouldn't go far with me (That was also reduced to about £3.00)! The packaging of mine is a black oval shaped box where the top and bottom are separated by and thin strip of pink metallic colour and it's easy to pull the top off. On the front all in silver writing I'm told it is Discover Me... By La Senza. On the bottom there is a large white label and on that other information includes contact details for La Senza and ingredients are listed. The bottle is black and in bright pink writing again I'm told what it is and on the bottom of that the same information is on the bottom as on the box. It h as a pretty pink metallic safety cap/lid and matching coloured spray action button to the top of it and again in shape it's sort of oval/rounded. It all looks very seductive and girly but grown up girly and its very pretty to display!

      The Fragrance Itself:

Well La Senza say this is a blend of raspberry, blackberry and mandarin surrounded with floral nuances of white jasmine and vibrant rose and this is one of the most unusual fragrances I think I have ever smelt.

The composition is, well odd...but it works really well for me! To me the blackberry is really apparent and deeply embedded as a base note along with the sweeter fruit of raspberry. Over that and sort of more apparent at first sniff are the floral tones, light and airy and the mandarin sort of make it pop and lifts the scent though it isn't an orangy aroma.

It's well blended and to me it's a heavy evening use perfume and suitable for young and more mature wearers alike. For me this is a really modern take on perfume and is rather daring. Although it's heavy on fragrance it really isn't too much so but you don't need to spray too much of it on. It oozes quality and sex appeal to me and I really love the blend of fruits and flowers, it makes it really interesting and multi faceted.

Once sprayed on I find it settles down quickly and isn't harsh or irritating and once on I can smell it for about 4-5 hours really. Like I say this is very rich and deep and it does happen to stay that way.

      Verdict:

I absolutely love this smooth fragrance. When I'm wearing it I feel sexy and vampy and very much in control for some reason. I did shove my wrist under my bfs nose and expected more than hmm it's nice to be honest...but he did like it!

I do advise a quick squirt and a wear before buying it just to make sure it's you and I do realise this is an acquired taste but me, well I'm glad I acquired my bottle!

Do look about for this online if interested and I have only seen this on sale In Le Senza and Boots.
