A lovely aromatic long lasting perfume

There is a little story about Magie Noire(Black Magic) perfume.... It was given to me by someone when i was 18 yrs old at the end of our relationship . I am much older than that now!! At the time it came in a lovely round shaped glass bottle. I absolutely adored it then and nothing has changed... i still adore it today.

I have been fortunate enough to very recently receive this once more as a birthday present!! How lucky am i !! Its actually not very often i buy it myself... it is verrrry expensive.

The last time i bought it for myself was in Harrods, about ten years ago. I was out shopping with my sister and we thought we would pop into Harrods. In all honesty it was out of curiosity... to look at their products on sale, and just to see what the famous store is like. We didnt think we would be able to really afford anything in there! I spotted the wonderful Magie Noire perfume. I had to buy it. It is the only thing i have ever bought in Harrods. At that time, for a smaller bottle than the one i have now, it cost about £35

What is strange about perfumes, is that they are a bit like music... they bring back memories and nostalgia.. they make you think of times gone by or of certain things that have happened in your life... very strange that is.

Magie Noire is by Lancome (Paris). It was first introduced in 1978 and i got my first bottle in about 1981. The perfume contains raspberry, bergamot and rose. It also has benzoin, civet and jasmine in it. It has a slightly musky scent, a little fruity too and is very strong. Some people may find it slightly overpowering but i do not find it to be like this myself. I think it is sensual and just right; not too powerful for me. It is probably best suited as an evening perfume. One of the great things about it, is that the scent lasts for hours. I put some on earlier this morning and its only just wearing off now, so thats about 6 hours. You really don't need to spray very much on; i usually spray it around my neck and on each wrist.

The bottle i currently have is 75ml bottle. The shapes of the bottle shave changed over the years. This one is a see through glass bottle; an oblong shape with a gold coloured top which you pull off, leaving the atomiser.
The size bottle i have costs just under £60 (depending on where you buy it from). You can't get it everywhere; but it should be available at Debenhams and Harrods. My bottle came from Fenwicks. Failing that, you can order it on line from various places.

Lancomes Magie Noire is a truly beautiful perfume. if you ever get the opportunity, please test it out and hopefully you will love it just as much as i do!

      ** Lancome Magie Noire **

I just appreciate the brand Lancôme and always like to try out their fragrances. Lancôme's founder, Armand Petitjean, a perfumer and cosmetics, has dedicated his life to his dream of giving women the most beautiful. He was fond of roses and grew them in his own garden in Ville d'Avray, just outside Paris. Because of his passion for the rose, is it not surprising that the rose is the symbol of Lancôme perfumes. His passion for perfumes has Armand Petitjean inspired to the spectacular step: in 1935, he launched Lancôme with five great fragrances. Almost all Lancôme bottles were created by Georges Delhomme. Today they are collectors items.

In 1978 Magie Noire came on the market. Lancôme should be surprising and enchanting when you spray it. The fragrance has the ingredients: amber, ylang-ylang, incense, black currant, jasmine and rose. It sounds great with the idea of the fragrance being enchanting but if it really works? The color of the Eau de Toilette is light yellow. I like the smell it's flowery fresh and it had a mysterious smell that is difficult to describe. Most oriental fragrances are heavy, but Magie Noir does have a fresh scent of nuts, but at the same time the jasmine softened this a bit and becomes less fresher. It's really a great scent.

The bottle of Eau de Toilette I know has a fairly simple rectangular bottle, the sprayer is hidden under a gold cap. With on the front in gold letters Magic Noir and Lancôme Paris. The bottle is in a black cardboard box containing with in gold the brand and product name. It is round, sensual and feminine. The bottle has a capacity of 75ml.

I find it a delightful scent. It has the spicy smells of the East, but is however still very fresh. I think it's a scent you can use during the day very well because it does not dominate. Definitely a smell that you should go try out once. And I definitely add it to my Wish List. Unfortunately I can not confirm if you can seduce men with it. A little Magic Noir and you smell certainly for an hour or six delicious!

Magie Noire: This is the only Lancome fragrance I like, not least because their newer offerings seem to be made with cheaper ingredients which 'turn' on my skin. For me one of the great thing about this fragrance is that it never turns, not on your skin, not on your clothes or hair. It's a fairly heavy (but not as much as some) oriental fragrance which manages to avoid having a nasty top note - here galbanum and blackcurrant are in harmony with the deeper notes of cedar, sandlewood and patchoulli (no - it smells nothing like hippy shops!). It also doesn't have that almost 'headachey' feel of some deeper fragrances that I've encountered lately The manufacturers persist in stating amber is an ingredient - when there is no such thing known to perfumery.....weird. Still this is one I always return to, although it's definitely an evening fragrance - absolutely not one for the office. For me the downside is that the matching bodylotion etc is really not of the quality I'd expect or hope for from a skincare company. The lotion I found watery, the body cream had a nice texture but had something in it which irritated my skin (I suspect mineral oil) and the talc didn't smell 'true' of the fragrance
