Advantages: An adaptable perfume suitable for all seasons and times of the day, Doesn't fade away quickly, Doesn't react with my sensitive skin

Disadvantages: Expensive

Armand Petitjean, a French perfumer and cosmetician, launched Lancôme in 1935 with five fragrances. Although none of the original five are still sold by the company they continue to create new perfumes and cosmetics based around the ideal of the rose that so fascinated Petitjean, and is now the company's logo.

Lancôme appear to strongly associate particular models or actresses with the launch of perfumes. In 1990 Isabella Rosselini helped to launch Trésor, meaning 'treasure' - apparently attempting to merge the ideas of intelligence, action and audacity with this particular fragrance.

The perfume comes in a warm peach/amber box that contains an upside down pyramid shaped clear glass bottle with a black ring around its neck and a chunky square see-through lid. (Or slight variations on this design). Through the glass a slightly darker peachy-amber liquid can be seen. Across one corner of the bottle Trésor is printed in the same flowing script as appears on the outer packaging. Presumably attempting to evoke the idea of the perfume being a jewel or the 'treasure' of its name.

Lancôme make many claims about the perfume being closely associated with its logo saying 'It's a round bouquet in which the rose prevails', describing it as having 'flowery, fruity and powdery amber notes'.

My description would be slightly different. It is a warm, sweet fragrance that is especially suited to the Winter months. Although despite this the freshness that remains in the scent stops it being too overpowering to prevent it being worn during the Summer too. A light muskiness permeates giving depth to the smell and helping it linger throughout the day. I would however, agree with the manufacturers that there is a rounded flowery smell and that the richness of amber does apply. The range of layers displayed make it suitable for use throughout the day as well as during the evening.

After a full da
y of wear the scent does tend to fade, becoming almost unrecognisable from the wrists; with only the scent on the body remaining. This can be quickly refreshed with a squirt rubbed onto both wrists and possibly one to the neck, reviving the squirts applied to chest, neck and wrists first thing in the morning.

This year I decided to be adventurous and try Kenzo's "L'eau par Kenzo". Despite this having a lovely light aroma, returning to Trésor with the disappearance of warm weather was wonderful, and truly reminded me of why this has consistently been my favourite scent.

Trésor may be flowery but it is not a perfume for girly girls. There is something self assured and no nonsense about the smell. It is a perfume that is for women who are assured and confident enough about their femininity that they do not need to spend hours in front of a mirror to look and feel attractive.

Trésor is available as eau de parfum, shower gel, body cream, body milk, soap, deodorant mist and skin mist.

It is often possible to see the perfume sold in special gift packs including body milk and/or shower gel.

My skin is sensitive and has never reacted with this product.

Tresor normally retails at £30-£35 for a 30ml bottle.
