Advantages: smells nice, bottle is amazing
Disadvantages: staying power is very poor, smell is not that great when first sprayed
I got sent two small spray bottles of Lolita Lempicka perfumes in a beauty box a few months ago. One was the original Lolita Lempicka fragrance, the second was L'Eau en Blanc which is the one I am reviewing here.
I will start with a quick note on the bottle. Bear in mind I don't own the full sized bottle of course, but I wish I did as it looks more like an ornament than a perfume bottle, it's just stunning. The fragrance comes in an apple shaped bottle through which you can see the pale pink liquid. The glass is decorated with white and gold ivy leaves and as I said, it's just completely stunning. It definitely beats the Nina Ricci apple shaped bottles in my opinion.
L'Eau en Blanc was released in May 2012 so is reasonably new to the market. The official description is This new sugared almond coloured fragrance...A bouquet of White Violets with a hint of Raspberry and Musk. A new floral-fruity-powdery composition. That certainly sounds very nice and I think I would have been tempted to try this just based on the description.
The top notes of this fragrance (the ingredients in the perfume you smell when first sprayed) are iris and violet leaf. When initially sprayed I think the violet leaf is the first scent to come out. On first sniff, I wasn't sure if I liked this scent but it has grown on me. I think there is a slight furniture polish type smell when it is first sprayed but thankfully that disperses quickly, so I am not walking around smelling like a can of Pledge!
I think once this has been on the skin for a while and the heart notes start to come out, the scent really smells so much nicer and really comes into its own. The heart notes are violet, raspberry, sour cherry and liquorice. Despite violet being a heart note and a top note, I think the violet scent calms down after a while and the scent takes on a fruitier tone. I can smell a hint of raspberry and although I would never have guessed this contained sour cherry before reading it online, I now find myself thinking, how did I miss it? I'd say it is similar to the scent of black cherry and the notes all combine to give a very pleasant scent.
The base notes of this fragrance are vetiver, musk, tonka bean and heliotrope. Let me just confess I have no idea what heliotrope smells like, so I've no idea if I can smell it in this perfume! Tonka bean I didn't really pick up on at all, but the musk is quite noticeable. I think musk can smell old fashioned and a bit 80's but this blends nicely with the other ingredients so that it doesn't come over that way.
The overall fragrance is really nice and having used both this and the original, I think I prefer this one to the original as it's slightly sweeter and lighter. I'd describe it as being quite feminine and as it is so light I would definitely say that this is a daytime fragrance rather than one that I would wear on a night out. Being so sweet I'd also suggest that it is probably more suited to younger women.
Unfortunately the main negative point about this scent is that the longevity is poor. I am lucky if I can smell this after three hours of application, which personally I don't think is good enough. I prefer to apply my perfume in the morning before work and then just not to worry about it, but unfortunately that's not an option with this scent. Instead I've put this spray in my hand bag and I just use it now and then when I'm out and about and need a top up of scent.
When I first got this scent I looked online to see how much the full size retailed at and could only find one place selling it. After searching again today it seems that it is still quite difficult to get hold of, but one of my favourite websites - feelunique.com - is selling the 30ml bottle for £29.75 with free delivery.
Overall, I am a little torn as to whether or not to recommend this scent. It is a nice light, pleasant scent and comes housed in a stunning bottle, but the poor longevity is really a huge negative point. I think weighing up all the pros and cons I'd have to give this a very average three out of five stars.
Summary: A real shame about the staying power, as otherwise I'd rate this more highly
