I remember going on a shopping trip with a firend when I was a poor broke student and looking on in amazement as she shelled out more than £45 for a Matthew WIlliamson perfume. I must admit the scent did smell lovely but the price really put me off and I haven't really considered buying any of his perfumes since, having stored the brand in the "Far too expensive for you missy" compartment in my head! All this changed when I walked into TJ Hughes earlier this year and found a 50ml (yes really) bottle of the "Butterfly" fragrance for £9.95!! This was definitely worth further investigation!
Now, I know we tend to throw away the boxes for our perfumes but we all know that storing perfume in it's original box can help prolong its life. What a shame then that most of the boxes bear a dodgy image of the pop starlet behind the scent or a scene better suited to a lingerie ad. This perfume was a different story, with the box being simple but beautiful. There is an inner box which is fuschia in colour and is covered by an outer lid which is turquoise with WIlliamson's name embossed across. Both parts of the box have a linen finish to the cardboard, making it look quite luxurious.
The bottle for this perfume puts me in mind of art deco design. It is made from two squares of glass joined by narrow sides inset, making a ridged edge to the sides. the stopper is chrome effect. The whole appearance is simple but elegant.
this perfume is very strong when first sprayed so don't go mad! The immediate note is very sweet and heady, a candy smell. There is a fairly short drying time during whch the heady scent recedes and what is left is a sweet scent with a slight floral and citrus undertone. I know everybody experiences the smell of a perfume differently but I think of strawberry sherbet when I smell it! I vcertainl see this more as a daytime perfume as it is not as sophisticated as traditional night time scents. However it is still my favourite ever perfume :)
whilst out shopping for perfume one day i went into TJ Hughes and sprayed various amounts of different perfume and i came across this Matthew Williamson one (id never heard of him) i sprayed it on my wrist and a bit must of gone on my coat.
At first i didnt like it and put it down straight away as at first spray it is very over powering and quite 'old lady' smelling, the next day though all i could smell all day was the scent on my coat and i loved it, couldn't remember what it was and when i finally did i decided to go get some.
In TJ Hughes this perfume is £8.00 for 50ml or £10 for 100ml on special offer, what a bargain. I bought 2 of the 100ml bottles and i am planning on getting some more.
For that price i expected the scent to vanish after a while but it lasts all day/night. Its a perfume you can use both for day and night, its a very feminine and floral smelling scent. Im not a person that goes for perfume for the bottle anyway, but the bottle is quite simple, square with frosted pink glass down the sides.
All in all i think this is a great scent for a woman of any age and i have had people comment various times on what perfume im wearing, a great bargain buy.
I purchased this perfume for the first time about a year ago feom TX Maxx as it was on offer and unfortunately was not able to try it before buying. I had expected it to be fresh, summary and fruity... everything that the bottle suggests but I was left quite disappointed. I had expected something very fresh from Matthew Willaiamson, especially as he is such a big fashion name but I am sorry to say that I do not think that this perfume lives up to that. The smell is likely something that a much older lady would wear and it is far too over-powering for me personally. I know that there are other varities of this perfume so I dont know if they smell any better. The bottle though looks very pretty, simple but classy so I guess that that is one bonus! I would suggest that you try before you buy!
I bought this perfume a few weeks ago from The Perfume Store as is was on special offer costing only £9.99 for a 50ml bottle. I love Matthew Williamson bags so that on top of the price made me enter the store for a sniff! I liked it so bought it.
The bottle is simple, a square shapped clear glass with pink flowers in the bottom right corner of both sides ant two dragonflies (i think thats what they are!) on the front above the Matthew Williamson text. On the back is a bird.
The fragrance itself is quite subtle and very feminine. It smells quite exotic to me but also very flowery and fresh. I wish at the bargain price I picked it up for that I had bought more than the one bottle but am more than willing to pay more for it in the future when I run out.
I have put this on in the morning and can still smell it throughout the day. I have also worn it on a night out and it is suitable for both.
I have found an online description of the fragrance and its says it is sexy, feminine and uplifting. It talks of it being a timeless fragrance.
If you have seen the Matthew Williamson bags - the Butterfly range in Debenhams the smell is as gorgeous as the bags are!
