“ Brand: Molton Brown / Type: Fragrance / Concentration: Eau de Toilette / Gender: for men „
Now, I'm a huge fan of Molton Brown after visiting a department store about a year ago testing some of the products over the counted. The Black Pepper range is their best seller apparently and I can understand why, it has a rich spice and warming scent to it and stands out from the crowd.
In the past I have purchased both the Black Pepper body wash and the Black Pepper body hydrater so it was only a matter of time before I succumbed to the Eau de Toilette. I decided to 'test' the product before I bought it as often in the past I have noticed that the aftershave smells different to the other products (shower gels, balms etc). So i sprayed some on the wrist one afternoon in John Lewis. The fragrance had the exact same smell as the body hydrator and the body wash so I was instantly impressed, in fact I would say it smelt better and I just couldn't stop smelling my wrist.
I was also impressed that after 4 hours I could still smell the product on my wrist so I decided to purchase it the following week. Needless to say I couldn't wait to buy a whole bottle of the stuff and get the kick from the tester sample that I used.
I have to say though that when I did buy the product, I was slightly dissapointed as it didn't seem to smell as strong as when I tested it in the shop, in fact the product only lasted a couple of hours and wore off, most of the other spray's that I use last for much longer in the day so I was slightly dissapointed. After going onto their website I found out that they use slightly less 'scent' that other sprays which is why the scent wears off after a short time. If I had known this beforehand then maybe I wouldn't have spent £35 on it. However, the instant kick from the first hour or so is definatly a hit.
If they can make the scent last longer then I may purchase it more frequently, in the meantime i'll stick with the bodywash and the body hydrator.
Molton Brown are the makers of luxury grooming products for both men and women and can be found in some of the world's most luxurious hotels. They have their own stores dotted around the country and many concessions in the big department stores. They also have their own website where you can purchase their products.
I absolutely love Molton Browns Black pepper body wash but at 17 pounds it is an expensive luxury. With my first Dooyoo cheque I decided to spend the money on a treat so I got the Eau De Toilette and body moisturizer to compliment the wash and I was pleasantly surprised to discover the Eau De Toilette is much more reasonably priced that I would have thought considering the price of the body wash. I ordered mine from Mankind and it was 35 pounds for a 50ml bottle which is less than some of the designer scents available on the high street.
It came in a molton brown box tied with a ribbon and looks really classy and just oozes luxury. The bottle itself screams quality and is solid clear glass with Molton Brown etched in the middle of the bottle and it has a shiny silver lid which also has the Molton Brown logo on it. The Eau De Toilette has a light brown colour and I feel this gives the whole bottle a slightly masculine look.
The smell is exactly like the body wash, a really rich spicy fragrance that smells masculine and musky. Although the body wash is considered unisex I really think the Eau De Toilette is a man's fragrance but I suppose there is nothing stopping a woman from wearing it. For those interested it contains Italian coriander, cumin from Egypt, Slovenian oakmoss, patchouli from Indonesia, French violet leaf, Italian bergamot and Nigerian ginger.
I absolutely love the smell and even though it is quite subtle combined with the other products in the range I can still smell it after a long day and I've even been given a few compliments. I would definitely recommend this product and I think it would make an excellent gift due to the look and the packaging. Even though it is about the same price as other designer fragrances it is less available in every shop so it still have a bit of exclusivity about it and you will find less people wearing it and more people asking what you are wearing to smell so good.
I bought this Eau de Toilette last year on a visit to the Molton Brown store in The Lanes, Brighton. Like every other visit I've had to this store, I seem to be the only person in there, meaning the sales assistants try and flog the whole shop to me. As soon as me and my girlfriend stepped through the door the orange-faced lady asked if there was anything in particular I was looking for, and I hate saying 'No thanks just looking' so I stumbled an ambiguous answer. I believe it was along the lines of "B..ath...tershave". Anyway, 10 minute later I had my wallet out purchasing this Eau de Toilette.
Like the name suggests, this is nice and spicy on first impressions. A strong initial scent that I thought was very masculine, although by the amount of the bottle my girlfriend went through, I'd say this was unisex...
As the Molton Brown website states, this fragrance contains Italian Coriander, Cumin, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Violet Leaf, Bergamot and Ginger. I feel the cumin and ginger are the more noticeable smells, along with the black pepper obviously, once again adding to the spicy aroma. I can't compare this Eau de Toilette to any of the high streets fragrances I wear, as it is uniquely aromatic and exotic.
So the actual scent is lovely, you'd be a bit strange not to enjoy it. However, despite the few sprays we'd put on a tester strip remaining there for many hours, I found that once you put this on your skin, the fragrance lasts no more than 2 hours if you're lucky, which isn't very impressive (although logic tells me this may have something to do with Black Pepper's flavour and aroma commonly evaporating rapidly). High streets brands could last up to all day, yet this you'd have to re-apply more than twice to have that sort of effect. Obviously fragrances do differ on various people, but I found the duration was similar on everybody who tried this.
Considering the bottle comes in a 50ml size, you'd soon go through that in a matter of months if you were to use this daily.
As always, Molton Brown's presentation of the Black Pepper Eau de Toilette is flawless. A trendy little box with a magnetic shutter and branded ribbon looks very nice if you were to display it, and the inside is a variety of coloured stripes. The bottom of the box is where you'll find the information such as ingredients and size, so nicely hidden from view.
The bottle itself is glass and fairly simple as you can see from the picture. It is a spray and the cap is easy to remove. If girls were to buy this product, it would fit nicely in a handbag, with or without box.
In store, I believe this fragrance was around £32, although I'm not sure how cheap you can buy it off the internet. For 50ml's this is expensive in my opinion, and considering the bottle only lasted me around 6 or 7 months, i wouldn't pay it again. Molton Brown isn't a cheap brand, but generally I feel you get what you pay for in terms of their lotions and salts, yet I was disappointed with the price of this product.
My rating - 3/5
As far as the fragrance goes, this is one of my favourites. Lovely and warm for any season, and perfectly presented.
However, for £32 to get 2 hours max. worth of scent then I wouldn't contemplate purchasing it again. If I could get it for as little as £20 then it would be more realistic and I'd be buying it again, but for the meantime I'll stick to cheaper high street brands which last longer.
If anyone has read my review of Molton Browns black Pepper shower gel then you will know that this fragrance range has been a big hit in our home for both the men and women!
So, the next time I had to buy my husband a gift I went along to Molton Brown again to indulge him and this time I purchased the eau de toilette, body lotion and candle.
Was he pleased? Oh yes. For a man, he was delighted to receive a body set but due to his pleasing experience with the shower gel, I don't think I doubted this for a second.
On the down side,I found that the cost of this item was very high for something that I would classify as an upper medium class of product. For a small amount above this price tag you could buy a premium product from a rival comapny such as Chanel.
However, the smell was divine, especially when following the shower gel and the body lotion. The fragrance wasn't as heavy a smell as I had expected and I found it to be very warm, energetic and enticing and again it even smelt good on me although I do prefer the smell on him!
According to Molton Brown, the product is full of essential oils to re-energise which will explain the air of energy that it gives out.
I would say that the product is great and if you could ignore the price tag, it would be an ideal purchase. Sadly I think the price tag lets down the product.
This eau de toilette is absolutely GORGEOUS and in my opinion can be used for women as well as men.
You know the TV advert for Lynx? well this Black Pepper makes me act the same way!
The smell? - I'd say warm and spicy.
If you love Molton Brown and ever come to Manchester you must visit the Lowry Shopping Centre in Salford Quays. There is a great Molton Brown Outlet shop and this is available for £13 and worth every penny.
The fragrance includes the following essential oils -
The brown bottle is very distinctive and looks classy so would be great for a present.
Although the photo makes it look like a glass bottle, it is in fact plastic but not 'plasticy' if you see what I mean?!
I would say it was great for males of all ages and a little goes a very long way.
This looks stylish in our bathroom and I can't help but use a little myself - it really IS a great eau de toilette which stays on all day.

A warm, spicy and energising fusion of essential oils which blends Italian coriander and bergamot, Egyptian cumin, Slovenian oakmoss, Indonesian patchouli, French violet leaf, Italian bergamot and Nigerian ginger /
