Advantages: Quite unique scent, good sillage and lasting power
Disadvantages: Expensive, some might find it too heavy
The first time I smelled Narciso Rodriguez For Her was on a perfume sample card inside a magazine some time last year. I had never heard of this perfume but from the moment I sniffed the tester I knew I had to get a bottle of this! I kept picking up the magazine to turn to the tester page to smell it until I bought my bottle. It was a scent which instantly attracted me.
I would describe For Her as a musky floral. According to Fragrantica.com, the top notes are rose and peach. The heart is amber and musk and the base notes are patchouli and sandalwood. Those notes give a fairly accurate picture of what Narciso Rodriguez For Her smells like, but I think this fragrance is quite unique and hard to capture in words. Still, I will do my best!
First of all, the musk makes it heavier than a lot of other floral perfumes as the musk is very noticeable even from the first spray and remains quite constant, but it is definitely not a powdery and old fashioned "Granny's perfume" type scent. The rose and peach make it soft and sweet, but definitely not sugary. I would say it is girly, but grown up. I have heard some people say they think it is quite a masculine scent due to the woody notes in the dry down, but I personally don't agree. I find it very feminine and girly. I think the colours (pale pink) and the advert suit the scent. It does seem to be a slightly "love it or hate it" scent but I LOVE it and would encourage anyone to try it.
As it is on the heavier side for a floral, I think it is perfect for the Autumn and winter, day or night. Personally I would probably go for something else lighter and fruitier on a summer day.
The sillage and lasting power are excellent. I can smell it throughout the day without having to desperately sniff my wrist to detect it.
The bottle is simple but classy and attractive. It is a heavy, sturdy pale pink glass bottle with Narciso Rodriguez For Her written in small black writing and a shiny pink rectangular top. The pink bottle comes in a black box, and the Eau de Toilette concentration has the opposite colours, i.e. black bottle in a pink box.
This perfume first came out in 2003 but seems to be getting very popular over the last year. It was even recommended by Sali Hughes in the Guardian around Christmas time. You can now buy it at the usual suspects such as Debenhams, House of Fraser, the airport duty free shops but it is slightly more expensive than a lot of other perfumes. Debenhams currently have it at £56.50 for 50 ml. I bought my bottle on a British Airways flight at £45 for 50 ml, which is more in line with what I would normally expect to pay for a perfume.
Summary: I love this musky floral
