~~Introduction~~

So there I was, aged 15 doing the snoop around my dad's girlfriends doll like antique dressing table. Puffs, paints, lip sticks, lacy lady things and bottled potions, every girls dream. There it stood proudly as if to say "try me", and who was I to refuse? I fell in love with Obsession instantly, I don't think I even tried another perfume until I was 18. I'd spray it everywhere, pillows, clothes, even as a household air freshener.

Like most things, time changes tastes and opinions so why should i be any different? Maybe it's because i over used it back then or maybe it's just one of those things but it has to be said, it is'nt a favourite of mine any more, though it is still a fairly pleasing aroma.

~~A bit about Calvin Klein~~

In 1968, Calvin Klein founded Calvin Klein Ltd., a coat shop in New York city. Although the company only originally sold coats Calvin Klein has since gone on to successfully promote itself as a top designer brand selling anything from the original coats to furniture and perfume. Obsession for women was first released in 1985 and still going strong unlike many of its competitors, Obsession is classified as a refreshing, oriental fragrance.

~~Price, packaging and purchasing~~

Although obsession is a relatively old fragrance in the perfume industry, it is still fairly pricey. A 30ml bottle will set you back around £40, though shopping around will obviously present you with a better deal.

The bottle is clear glass, holding the rustic orange perfume inside in an egg like shape with orange domed lid. I wouldn't say that the bottle is particularly feminine, certainly not if you compare it to more modern bottles but robust and eye catching never the less. Like most perfumes the bottle is housed in a cardboard box, beige box in this case, with all the relevant information.

Because Obsession is a very popular fragrance it can be found behind most perfume counters and specialist websites.

~~The scent~~

Top notes:

*bergamot, peach, lemon grass, mandarin, orange

Middle notes:

* coriander, tagetes, armoise, sandalwood, rose, jasmine

Bottom notes:

*oakmoss, musk, amber ,vanilla

~~My overall opinion~~

Obsession will always remind me of growing up and for that reason will always have a special place in my heart. I have to admit that I do prefer mild fragrances and that is why I could never give Obsession a five star rating. A good metaphor for Obsession would be to say that is like a very attractive WWF wrestler slam dunking your nose, holding on tight and rolling around the floor with you for a good five to ten minutes before releasing you abruptly and playing with your hair like nothing had ever happened. The fact is, this perfume is strong, very strong in fact. More than the one squirt can be a touch on the over whelming side but once the fragrance has had some time to settle it does smell rather alluring, sexy even. If you like intense then this is a must have fragrance.

I can almost certainly smell the jasmine, peach and coriander in this perfume it does also have fruitiness to it upon further analysis, this gives to it an air of sweetness amidst the more savoury woodiness. The jasmine is what warms me to the scent I think. If someone were to ask me to describe the smell then I would almost certainly say that it is very musky and highly woody. Woody would almost certainly sum this perfume up nice and accurately.

Perhaps because of its strength Obsession is a scent that will always be remembered and easily indentified on anyone that wears it. It is a wonderful perfume for covering up the smell of cooking and other unwanted whiffs which is perhaps why I was so drawn to the perfume in the first place. My dad's specialty was always cooking up haddock and let's faces it no one wants to smell of that let alone a 15 year old girl trying to impress her peers. Thankfully the perfume always managed to blast that out of the way and I do recall lots of people seemed to like its scent. This perfume is far from subtle and with such a vast amount of notes to it, that fact is certainly unsurprising but once the perfume has calmed we do get the rose and vanilla come through which do smell rather fancy.

I'm not sure whether or not I would go out and purchase this perfume again, though I certainly wouldn't snub it if it were given as a present. The fact is Calvin Klein have done remarkably well with this perfume, anything that can still sell after the length of time that this perfume has could never be accused of smelling disgusting but it is a heavy scent none the less and not one that will please all.

The one thing this perfume really does have going for it is its lasting power. Once sprayed the perfume will linger throughout the day. The bottle will last ages to. I had a bottle that lasted for two years and unlike other perfumes the scent was not in the least bit distorted.

~~Conclusion~~

A great perfume used in moderation.

Summary: Sexy but a little too strong.
