A gorgeous fruity floral from Paris

This is a really nice summer scent from Paris Hilton. I bought it off Amazon.co.uk.

The bottle is really nice. It features a photo of Paris as a cartoon.

The smell of the perfume is very fruity and fresh. It is a fruity floral but it smells like an expensive fruity floral. It doesn't smell cheap. When I first spray the scent it does smell quite strong but give it an hour or so and it soon settles down. The floral notes are gorgeous. They come together well and compliment each other. It's a very summery scent and one that makes you feel better about yourself when you spray it.

The notes are mainly floral notes. I can detect the jasmine in there and it gives the scent a sensual edge. Jasmine is quite a sexy feminine note and it smells gorgeous in this. It's not a strong jasmine scent but you can still detect it. Orange Blossom notes give the perfume a hint of sweetness and musk finishes the perfume off. Musk is the last note that you can smell once the perfume has settled. I don't find it hard to detect the musk as the end as it almost screams out to me.

The perfume has good staying power too. I would describe it as a casual daytime scent, although you can still wear it as an evening scent thanks to the sensual jasmine.

      GORGEOUS.

Not what I was expecting, based on the target age range and theme...

Here comes my standard opening statement; This is a fruity/floral, so that, the low price and the fact that it's a 'Celebrity Scent' - and being released by Paris Hilton - makes this the perfect target for mockery by 'serious' fragrance devotees. But hey; if it smells nice and you enjoy wearing it, then who cares whose name is on it and if it's 'only' a fruity/floral?

Having said that, SOUTH BEACH is more floral/woody then fruity/floral...

      Smells like...

SOUTH BEACH is pure sweet citrus for the first five to ten minutes. As well as the nectarine, I do think there is some grapefruit in here too, as there is a tart under-bite to the long sweet-but-fresh note. The opening really suits the name, packaging and theme to SOUTH BEACH - it's bright, warm and cheerful, even when it's dull, cold and wet outside.

The jasmine is thankfully the sheerest floral note and is almost completely hidden by the lingering citrus, allowing the other floral notes to take center stage. On me it is actually the delicate and slightly watery lotus notes that are the strongest, followed quickly by the osmanthus, which combines with both the watery lotus and remaining fruit perfectly. The freesia is almost as sheer as the jasmine but it is there and I think there is some orange blossom and possibly some neroli too. I'm not sure what marigold smells like, so maybe I'm confusing it with neroli or orange blossom.

The sandalwood and other wood notes combine with the florals and develop within an hour. The wood mix has a creamy undertone and sometimes I can catch a hint of what I think is coconut water, but it's very mild and comes and goes, and I can't be too sure if my nose is tricking me, or if it's really there. The mild breeze of musk becomes noticeable at the ame time as the woods develop, so whilst I'm not a fan of musky notes, it doesn't bother me here.

Nectarine, lotus, white freesia, osmanthus, marigold, jasmine, Australian sandalwood, musk and blonde woods.

The perfume bottles in the Passport collection share the same plastic capped cylinder shape as Paris Hilton For Women and Just Me. However, though the bottle shape is the same as her first adult releases, the bottle and outer packaging for the Passport collection seems to be aimed towards younger customers; the bottle labels feature a anime rendition of Paris Hilton.

SOUTH BEACH features a bikini-clad anime figure and has a bright blue cap.

The best thing about SOUTH BEACH is definitely the lasting power. It burns down within six hours [on average] on my skin. It does go fairly close to the skin after three hours, but other people still notice it. I'm impressed - this packs a lot more punch then I thought a EDT would be capable of doing.

I was surprised by how versatile I've found PASSPORT SOUTH BEACH to be, since it was made as something light and airy to wear in warmer weather; now that it's the month before Christmas I still find myself wearing it. As the fruits are perfectly balanced in strength with the florals, it doesn't seem out of place for autumn/winter. I don't usually wear EDTs at this time of year as the concentration doesn't wear well on me, but this has does wear just as well as many cheaper EDPs.

As well as being wearable all year round I also happily wear this perfume for casual days, work and some evenings out. The fragrance is long lasting, but is non-cloying and won't irritate other people, so makes a good choice for just about anywhere, anytime.

      Worth a spritz?

SOUTH BEACH reminded me of something else straightaway, but it took me a few wears to place - Jennifer Lopez Love & Glamour. Or rather, this is what Love & Glamour should have been like; the floral notes are more developed in SOUTH BEACH, the wood notes are less one dimensional, and the lasting power is better. While Love & Glamour seems casual and decidedly unglamorous, SOUTH BEACH has a air of pampered luxury about it.

PASSPORT SOUTH BEACH is like Passport Paris in that it reminds me of something else. But as this is wearable all year round, suits all occasions and is reasonably priced I'm very happy with my purchase overall, and will be re-buying it over the scent-a-likes.

The Paris Hilton Passport Collection also includes the other 2010 releases of Passport Tokyo [woody/floral/musk] and Passport Paris [fruity/floral], as well as the 2011 release Passport St Moritz [green/floral].

I don't know if St Moritz is available in the UK yet, but it is worth looking out for as it is the most unique fragrance in the Passport collection.

      100ml: £20 [The Perfume Shop]

I've seen 30ml bottles in TK Maxx for £13. Very.co.uk also stocks the 30ml for £15.
