Paul Smith is a fashion brand. They also offer a range of male and female fragrances.
~Paul Smith London~
Paul Smith offer a 'London' fragrance for both males and females. I will be discussing the female version which is available in an eau de toilette and an eau de parfum. This fragrance name isn't exactly inspiring in my opinion but is fitting with the Paul Smith name.
London EDP was released in 2004 and falls into the oriental/woody fragrance family. It is recommended for casual use. There are currently no matching body products on offer to layer this scent.
*Top notes - neroli, anise, lime and lilac
*Heart notes - jasmine and patchouli
*Base notes - vanilla and heliotrope
London EDP would have once been widely available in a full size spray bottle. Internet searches reveal that the miniature bottles are more readily available. I own a miniature bottle which is a splash bottle. This deep red/purple, glass bottle is shaped a little like a potion bottle - round at the base with a thin, fluted neck and screw top lid. It is an unusual bottle but not particularly striking in my opinion. The bottle is presented in a red coloured gift box.
~Price and Availability~
A 5ml miniature can be bought online from various outlets from £3.50 - £6.00. Stockists include Amazon, www.justminiatures.co.uk and eBay. You may also come across a full size bottle on eBay but expect to pay quite a bit more than the original price.
I like to have a collection of miniature fragrances for taking out with me and on holiday to avoid carrying a large bottle around. I purchased my little bottle of London EDP from Amazon a few months ago after it was recommended to me. I don't mind paying a few pounds for a good quality EDP miniature and feel this one is fairly priced given how difficult it is to find a full size bottle. I would personally prefer a spray bottle but the splash bottle is functional if a little messy.
As I wear perfume daily, I like to alternate the types of fragrances I use. I normally opt for something fresh and lively for day time wear and something a little heavier for evening use if I am off out. There really is a fragrance for every occasion and I feel London EDP is the perfect transitional 'day to evening' fragrance. The fragrance notes have been selected well to offer a bright opening and something a bit more special to take hold as the evening begins.
~Living The City Life?~
The strength of London is really good. From the moment I splash it on to my neck and wrist, the scent is noticeable and remains consistent during its time on my skin. The opening fragrance is highly appealing and has been well blended in my opinion as the fragrance notes mingle perfectly whilst the stronger notes shine through of their own accord during the first hour or so. The lime is the prominent scent - very zingy, bright and sweet and complimented by a slightly, bitter neroli note. The anise adds a spicy undertone and the top note ensemble flows well. I can't help but think of holidays abroad whilst using this fragrance - there is something rather exotic about it.
The sweetness from the lime clings to my skin whilst the heart notes become recognisable. London EDP takes a twist here. It loses the vibrant, city chick image and changes to a more sensual, grown up scent. This is where the 'day to evening' transition takes place. I can apply this late afternoon to benefit from the fruity opening and by early evening, a more sophisticated aroma is noticeable thanks to the carefully blended patchouli and jasmine. The sweetness of the lime isn't noticeable after an hour or so but a warm, sort of powdery scent laces the jasmine.
The heart of London EDP is noticeable on my skin for a good 5 hours or so. By late evening, the scent changes again to reveal a dry down which is rather comforting and close to the skin - perfect for detecting whilst getting ready for bed in my opinion. The powdery tinge from the heart is complimented by a gorgeous, sweet and warm vanilla which is a little subtle but very authentic is scent. There is not a hint of anything artificial here. This lovely scent lasts 2 hours or so on my skin but does seem to cling to my jacket and scarf for a few days which is nice.
I feel Paul Smith fragrances are aimed at the younger female market. Personally, I find London EDP would be suitable for young and more mature ladies. It is a simple yet stylish and sophisticated scent. It is versatile but I prefer to wear it afternoon through to late evening.
Overall I can recommend Paul Smith London EDP. It lasts well and isn't too expensive. I wear this occasionally and always feel special when wearing it. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another miniature and therefore I can highly recommend this fragrance. Despite being released 8years ago, this fragrance is still favourable - a classic.
Thanks for reading ;)
I really do love my perfumes and Paul Smith London Women has got to be one of my absolute all time favourite fragrances that is out there on the market.
I have been using it for the past 6years since its release. You will always find a bottle in my handbag a bottle on my dressing table and usually a spare stashed away in a drawer for when one of them runs out. I guess that will give away just how much I love it.
Now in 2002 the UK designer Paul Smith successfully turned his eye away from fashion designing to that of the world of perfume, that with the remarkable success and release of Paul Smith Women and Paul Smith Men in 2002 and the help and nose of Jean-Pierre Bethouart in 2004that the fragrance Paul Smith London Women was born.
Now personally I would describe London Women as a Modern, classsy, sophisticated, sexy, flirty, romantic, seductive scent for a woman, a scent for a woman that likes to wear a strong, deep fragrance thats noticeable but not too over powering, after all no one likes a fragrance that makes them want to choke because its too strong.
Ideal for evening wear and for when you want a little romantic time as I personally feel this fragrance is more for evening wear than day time.
Notes of Luscious lime the natural bitter notes of Neroli, Amber, Lilac leaf, Jasmine, Heliotrope, Aniseed, Seringa and Vanilla all make this fragrance what it is,they all blend so well and make it so unique. It makes the fragrance sweet, warm, rich, deep, musky and florally all in one.
The product itself comes in a stylish deep cranberry coloured cylinder shaped box with the wording "Paul Smith London Women" in white writing which houses inside and protects a stylish, sleek deep cranberry coloured glass bottle. The Deep cranberry coloured glass bottle is extremely curvy which is described as being shaped womany with its curves and I believe all of these factors bought together make this product look very sexy and seductive which suits this warm, rich, deep fragrance housed withing this packaging extremely well.
When applying this product you only really need one spray as it really is a strong, deep scent , it is apparently suppose to have a scent life of between 6 to 10 hours although I guess this will differ depending on the wearer but I certainly can vouch that it certainly has staying power and I rarely find myself having to re apply during the day or night and as you wear it and go through the day/ night you will every now and then un-expectedly notice the subtle change of scent being emitted from all the different notes contained within the bottle.
Now as much as this fragrance is suitable and Ideal for myself it may not necessarily be the perfume for you so I would highly recommend that you get a tester of this product first and give it a try as everybody's body chemistry differs and therefore the fragrance can smell differently on each individual.
A 30ml bottle of this fragrance retails at approx £18
A 50 ml bottle retails at approx £25 and the 100ml approx retails at around £30, Although do be sure to have a look around as Ive found some great offers around on this fragrance, Especially the 100ml size bottle.
Lastly I would like to say that since first writing this review Paul Smith seem to have discontinued the fragrance which Im absolutely gutted about so Ive only really been able to find it online. Luckily I stocked up
This perfume is perfect for a gift for your girlfriend aswell as your nan, it can be worn at any age as its not too fruity or too zesty for the older ladies and not to strong and deep for the younger ladies.
This is an amazing day time perfume perfect for work or a dinner date, but could also be used for a night out if you just appl a few more spritz to spice up the scent.
The perfume comes in a deep red glass bottle and is an eyecatching shape. The perfume also comes in a cardboard cylinder box that is easily transpotable and protects the glass bottle perfectly.
This perfume is also very long lasting and a little bit of it goes very far although it is a very light sent 3 sprays is all you need to leave you smelling beautiful all day.
With a blend of lime, neroli, lilac, jasmine, heliotrope and vanilla, this is a very floral, subtle, but girley fragrance. However the dominant scent is the sweet vanilla. Which makes it smeel good enough to eat.
I suffer with very bad sensitive skin and this perfume has never irritated me and is very gentle and softening on my skin. And for only £35 for a 100ml bottle its really a bargain for such an amazing product.
I would highly recommend it to any lady of any age!
I bought this fragrance after buying paul smiths other fragrance extreme. Extreme is one of my favourites and i'd heard good things about his other perfume for women, this one and decided to ordered some of the internet.
I paid about £26 for the perfume, for 100ml. Do shop around because some sites charge this for the 50ml bottle. I normally buy a tester bottle, as it is practically full but almost half the price.
The perfume smelt lovelly, and along with extreme they are 2 of my top 10 perfumes. It has a fresh smell, its a little masculine but only a tiny bit, and i kinda like this. The smell lasts a few hours, and then you need to reapply.
I find if i use this perfume or any for that matter alot, i cant smell it anymore, so do change frequently, or you wont be able to smell this gorgerous perfume on you.
Ive had alot of people comment on how lovelly this smells on, so i guess it must not be me.
This is a perfume i tend to wear in the daytime, as its quite light and not overpowering, so works very well for everyday casual use.
I'd recommend this perfume without a shadow of a doubt.
I really do absolutely uncategorically truly without doubt love this fragrance. It is really fresh and bright. I would recommend it to everyone and then the whole world would smell more beautiful! I'm not sure what you can say about it really other than it's fruity and fresh. It is a very light fragrance but one that lasts well when you wear it. It is like carrying a bouquet of flowers around with you all day! I think of it as a summer fragrance because it is so light and bright, just like sunshine (well not this year!).
Pop into your local department store and test it out. I'm sure you'll all love it as much as I do. In fact, I love all the Paul Smith perfumes and that isn't because I follow him as a designer. I'll wear any perfume so long as it's bright and cheerful and makes me happy. This is definitely my favourite eau de parfum for women. The pink bottle is funky as well and looks good if you have pink highlights in your bedroom decoration - if anyone is sad enough to coordinate their perfume with their soft furnishings. It is just a coincidence - honest!
The only downside is the shape of the bottle isn't great if you want to carry it around in your handbag but I tend to spray on loads before I leave the house and I can still smell it on me at the end of the day.
When I look for new fragrances I'm instantly attracted to glitzy celebrity advertising and cute bottles and packaging. Brand names are also important to me. I only own a few 'cheaper' fragrances like Cote L'aimant and, Lee Stafford (yes he's got a new fragrance) and so...? Sinful and that's because they are firm favourites when I was growing up (apart from lee Stafford of course!).
Now I know nothing about Paul Smith apart from that fact that he's a fashion designer and I think of him and men's clothing in the main so who is the guy behind the fragrance?
Well he's Sir Paul Smith if you please and he was born in Nottingham in 1946 and I was right his expertise is with men's fashion hence the knighthood. He's been designing for almost 30 years. He is credited with actually introducing trends such as boxer shorts and the filo fax! He started off his career in menswear in a large store as a manager, then a fashion buyer for a store in London and then opened his first shop in 1970 in Nottingham. He was the first fashion 'brand' to open in Covent Garden (London) in 1979. He now possesses 14 stores in the Uk and he's most successful in Japan where he has over 200 stores and outlets.
His style is described as Savile row meets Mr Bean and not only has his business expanded he now does design women's clothing, fragrances, shoes, watches, accessories, pens and furniture. He really is a jack of all trades this guy!
The Perfume.. Paul Smith Woman....
Well it's a dark burgundy glass bottle with screw on/off lid. The shape is hard to describe. It's round based and flutes up tall and thin. On the front of the bottle it has white writing on the front telling me that it is Paul Smith, London. Nice interesting modern bottle! This fragrance was introduced in 2004.
How The Fragrance is described....
Paul Smith London is a soft, sultry, and voluptuous fragrance. Luscious lime and the naturally bitter note of neroli. Lilac leaf, jasmine, heliotrope, aniseed, and vanilla all soften the bouquet. Fresh seringa maintains a modern zappy-happiness. Amber deepens the base notes, woven through with green woodsy accents. In a cute, curvy apothecary bottle of crushed-cranberry colored glass.
Well my fragrance doesn't have a sprayer so it is dispensed via a small hole at the top of my bottle (of course!). Now this is a bit of a complaint cos I get it all over my hands when I want to use it! That's the only complaint I have though!
The fragrance itself is warm, rich and deep and does have a really modern edge with a classy undertone to it. Although warm, rich and full of body still has a real softness about it and isn't harsh at all even though neroli is present..
So at first sniff and if you take no notice this perfume would be described as floral and you could leave it at that. However take a deep inhalation and you can smell quite a bit of jasmine and the soft hint of vanilla and although floral there's a woody smell to it. I can't smell some of the ingredients that are listed such as aniseed and lime etc but I have no doubt they are in this concoction as it really is a very well blended fragrance.
It is heavy and to me it's a night time fragrance really. Once applied lasts hours upon hours. If I put this on in the morning I can still slightly smell it at 3am and it still smells faint and fresh.
Perfect for any woman of any age that likes strong in your face sweet perfumes. This really isn't for the faint hearted!
Sexy, seductive, sophisticated, girly and totally yummy. Everything about it is just lovely and bang on!
This is sold in Boot's....
This perfume is only available in Eau De Parfum.
