A very potent, low price, pine-forest fragrance.

Pino Sylvestre - Potent, masculine, elegant, long lasting... But it does not smell like air freshener!

This somewhat hard to find fragrance has been around in the same form since the 1950s. This itself should be some testament to it, but why it isn't better known or more widely available is beyond me.

Firstly, everything about this fragrance says "pine forest". The name (the Latin for "Scots Pine" is Pinus sylvestris, meaning "pine of the woods") gives a clear indication of what to expect from this fragrance.
The green glass bottle is shaped and textured like a pine cone.

      The scent:
The first spray is powerful and potent - the aroma is most definitely pine, but woody and dry. There is no element of sharpness at all, just a dry, coniferous scent. It does not give the impression of pine air freshener at all, which is quite a surprise.
Once on, the scent slowly gives way to an elegant but powerful coniferous forest-like aroma. This lasts quite literally for hours without fading too much, and is one of the few fragrances that I have ever tried which lives up to my expectations for a long-lasting perfume.
I don't find it overpowering, but I do notice it consistently throughout the evening - and since I love the fragrance, this is no bad thing.
I have to say that for me this is my favourite Eau de Toilette for formal evening wear.

I bought a bottle of Pino Sylvestre back in 1997, and I loved it so much that I ended up reserving it for very special evening occasions. When it ran out last year, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find any more. Luckily, there are a couple of places that sell it online.
It's remarkably low-priced (about £12 per 125ml), and it's potent enough to last for quite a while. Now I've found a good supplier, I might be tempted to use Pino Sylvestre more often.

It was presented in 1955, as a fougere composition. This fragrance still seduces with its refreshing, clear notes and its authentic bottle design. It was designed by Lino Vidal, who brought a handful of freshness and sweetness of bergamot, lavender, basil, shiny lemon and juniper berries in the top notes. The heart carries an explosion of spicy notes of carnation, nutmeg, geranium, thyme and fir tree. The base contains accords of amber, cedar, musk, Tonka beans and moss.
