Christian Dior Poison is an interesting scent because it always seems to evoke a strong reaction when its name is mentioned. its a real love it or hate it fragrance and I fall into the hate it category. The perfume has been around since the eighties which is testament to its appeal to the masses but i cant for the life of me comprehend who those masses can be. Its expensive. It does come in a rather attractive purple bottle but the beauty of the capsule hides the evil that lurks within.

I can best describe the smell as "cloying". It is seriously overpowering and it doesnt seem to matter how little you apply it absolutely engulfs the wearer and emits a cloud of fragrance that quite literally suffocates anyone within a 5 metre radius. I did a straw pole of friends and my mum made me laugh when she said if she smelt it on anyone it made her want to kill somebody. Now thats a bit stong i know but I kind of knew where she was coming from. All others I spoke to had similarly negative comments to make but interestingly many had had a bottle at some stage although even more interestingly it had always been bought for them, never chosen by them.

It is musky, it has amber as its base note. Some may describe the headiness of the scent as sexy, I describe it as sickening. And you cannot get it out of your nose no matter how hard you try. Perfume is such a subjective thing which must explain why despite the seemingly large anti poison sentiment there are still large sales of the evil scent. Try it before you buy it but do not spray it on you, spray it on a piece of card and stand well back. Poison by name and poison by nature in my humble opinion.
