"Fashion is over very quickly. Style is forever." Ralph Lauren
Polo Blue, mmmh! lovely EDT by Ralph Lauren used by the three most important men in my life. My husband, he of the "Master under God Sea Captain, my Dad still a charmer at 89, and my boss who puts up with me bullying him on occasions and still continues to pay me! My husband is the lucky owner of the EDT, after shave and the shower gel. A past Christmas present from good friends and although his sense of smell is not the best, eg "That toast your making is not burning, it is on fire!" He can be persuaded to use a splash of Polo Blue because it smells good on him when we are going out for the evening.
Ralph Lauren is a tremendously successful designer now in his 73rd year. Born in America to Polish immigrants he started his own fashion line with a tie that he designed and sold to the depatment store where he worked. His range now encompasses clothes, fragrances and furnishings and he is known for his love of the "Preppy American Style"
For me scent is all about the atmosphere that it creates and the places that it takes you in your imagination. After a little reading I discovered that this EDT was designed to evoke the style of life that the "Hampton's" in America encapsulates. This is the place where the Kennedy's spent the summers, sea, sand, days spent on the water sailing or watching a polo match with friends. The great outdoors but the best bits without the discomfort!.
The bottle is very understated being a plain, curved bottle shaped like a flat hip flask but made of beautiful, luminous sapphire blue glass. On the front in silver is the iconic polo player, just about to strike the ball. The top is silver coloured too and pulls off easily, with it's flat top it balances the bottle perfectly. I don't go in for collecting things but this is one bottle that I will keep when it is empty. The spray is silver coloured and works easily to give a little spay of the fragrance. The box for the bottle is the matching dark blue with the polo player picked out in silver. Very classy.
Well I've learned a lot researching this. Polo Blue was launched in 2003 and was created by Carlos Benaim and Christophe Laudamiel and is classed as an Aromatic Fougere for men though quite a few women use it too! As my nose is still very much in training here is the perfume pyramid taken from Fragantia's website.
Top notes are melon, mandarin, orange and cucumber.
Middle notes, basil, sage and geranium.
Base notes, musk woodsy notes and washed suede.
My Polo experience.
Whether I or my husband use this, the first fragrance which I get as soon as I take the top is melon! I couldn't place it until I read the ingredients but melon is definitely there mixed in with the citrus and the cucumber. The melon fades away quickly for me and I actually prefer this fragrance a couple of hours after it has been sprayed on when it becomes more herby and not as sweet. It definitely lasts for the evening and always smells fresh and clean.
For me it will always be the fragrance of going out for the evening in the Summer after a hot day's work in Spain where we live. It reminds me of good company and happy evenings, definitely a Summer fragrance for me It appears to be liked by all ages and is a confident and understated fragrance. The bottle that we have contains 125ml and retails around 50pounds, so thank you kind and generous friends.
I hope that you try it and see what you think.
4 out of 5 stars from me as although I like it I do not absolutely love it..
Thank you for reading my very much a beginners review of a fragrance. I also post on Ciao under splishsplash
I never really associate myself with Ralph Lauren simply because it's a too preppy for me and I have nothing with polo. I only like a few things that they sell but most of the time it's overpriced. Ralph Lauren has been around for more than 40 years ago and started with a collecting of ties. From their he created a whole more lifestyle with clothes for not only men but also women, baby's and children. And now you can even decorate your house with the Ralph Lauren lifestyle.
Although I don't like the brand I always make an exception when it comes to the fragrances. When I saw the bottle of the Ralph Lauren Polo Blue, it got my attention straight away. I love the colour blue and since this one has a striking dark blue I was almost sold. The bottle looks very casual and classic, something I like. Also the box comes in a dark blue colour with in silver the polo player and the product name and eau de toilette. On the back you will find the ingredients.
The Polo Blue Eau de Toilette Spray has a blend of patchouli, gernium and amber wood. Other ingredients are Alcohol Denatured, Aqua (Water), Parfum/Fragrance, Linalool, Limonene, Butylphenyl Methypropional, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Salicylate, Hexylcinnamal, Citronellol, Geraniol, Citral, Eugenol, Isoeugenol and Benzyl Alcohol. For me it has a really fresh scent with the musk coming on top. It feels very sportive and even a bit adventures. It has a little bit fruit scent which disappears after a good few hours. In the beginning you will notice a strong alcohol scent but still for a minute.
Although I can't say I like the brand itself I do appreciate this fragrance. The eau de toilette comes at a price of 25 pounds for a bottle of 40ml which is not a bad price. It's a nice fresh scent with a hint of musk which I like. It feels like a very sportive summer scent so I think it's more for day time.
Guys, if you're looking for something that smells great and does the exact thing you want from an Eau de Toilette then you've found the right product. This is the perfect Eau de Toilette for any guy. It is not too powerful or strong (often found with cheap sprays), and although you will not smell it on you, everyone else will and will love it (another perk of a slightly more expensive Eau de Toilette). When wearing it, your friends will like it and compliment you, and the best bit - the girls love it. Especially after a couple of hours when it has really become part of you and complements your natural smell. It is actually amazing. The best Eau de Toilette I have ever smelt and purchased. The only problem is the price - which is a little annoying, but I have had a small bottle since last october and I wear it ever day - you don't need much of it at all - making it quite worth the price!
I tried this 'Eau de Toilette' about two years ago, and surprisingly it's stuck in my head as one of those I must not buy again! It's surprising because it seems it is quite popular, but for me, the very distinct fragrance was incredibly off putting.
Firstly the 'Ralph Lauren' brand is a strong brand in the industry, not only for fragrances, but for clothing as well. Realising that's who had produced the 'Eau de Toilette' gave me hope that it would be a nice smelling aftershave because they generally get things right.
The packaging of the box is sophisticated and bold. The bottle itself is very manly, and in the traditional aftershave style bottle, clean, simple, easy to use and effective. It doesn't come with a spray button; this 'Eau de Toilette' goes back to the roots of men's fragrances and it's applied by genitally tipping the bottle and dabbing it in the right places.
Unfortunately, even though it ticked so many boxes already, it was the fragrance that would let it down in my eyes. Maybe it's just me, but the scent was very overpowering, and although it's meant to be a cool, fresh smell, I found almost the complete opposite. It almost smelt like peanuts, which was definitely something I didn't want to smell of. It was slightly musty, maybe the combination of the peanut smell, and the image created by peanuts gave off this impression. It's a shame because I thought I was on to a winner.
I bought the fragrance for about £20 a few years back, and I'm not sure what it now sells for. I'd imagine, unless it really is popular it isn't available to buy from high street stores, and it would be a question of going online. 'Amazon' have it for £28.87. Is it worth the increase of £10? I definitely don't think so, I wouldn't even pay £10 for it now, especially with the scent I smelt. Sadly one I'll never think about buying again, though 'Ralph Lauren' do have other fragrances which stand proud as great fragrances, and maintain the great image of 'Ralph Lauren'.
I found the fragrance when shopping open mindedly for a new aftershave. After doing the usual Debenhams testers, this one automatically stuck out. It has a unique smell (always a plus for aftershave...), sort of fruity yet still very much masculine. Once applied, the compliments soon follow. My girlfriend loves the smell, every time my flatmate comes to my room he always cheekily steals a squirt, and I've had nothing but praise since I started using it.
In the past all I've found is overpowering smells, those when you're in an elevator, someone's bound to pass out. Then there's those that smell like petrol, only enticing those who like that sort of thing... But Ralph Lauren Blue is different, I honestly recommend testing it next time you're in a department store. It seems subtle, but it's a smell you just can't get enough of. It's about the standard price you'll pay for competetive after shave, but seems to blow all the others such as Diesel and Davidoff out the water.
Prior to Tuesday I had never heard of Ralph Lauren Polo Blue. I had never seen it advertised or actually smelt it on anyone I know. Its existence was news to me, so when it came highly recommended by none other than Sarccyslayer my interest was pricked and off I went to the link at www.fragrancedirect.co.uk to take a look at the aftershave described by her good self as a pulling magnet and indeed natural female Viagra.
After reading the online notes and taking into consideration the recommendation, I take my debit card in hand and bought a 75ml bottle of the Eau de Toilette (EDT) for £28.95 and Im happy it say it was delivered two days later.
The bottle comes packaged in a rather understated stylish Royal Blue coloured box. As this is an aftershave in the Polo range the Ralph Lauren Polo Player is emblazoned on the front in silver above the word POLO.
On opening the box I noticed that the notes were missing but thankfully the bottle was there. On taking it out, you can immediately tell that this is from the Polo range. The bottle is Royal Blue in colour, standing 5 inches tall but only an inch in width. The silver lid pulls off to reveal an atomiser. This is a bottle that will look cool on the shelf next to the other bottles in the Polo range.
Polo Blue mixes a blend of Melon de Cavaillan, Basil Verbena and washed suede and is marketed as a fragrance that will set you free with images of blue skies and a feel of fresh flowing water.
Three sprays of Polo Blue left my bathroom awash with a very strange strong aroma. It was a very strong fresh smell that was light on the nose. Hints of melon and cucumber became evident immediately. Within moments it seemed that the fragrance had totally disappeared and I couldnt smell anything on me. From nearly overpowering it had vanished ..panic!
As I left the bathroom my housemate made a comment making reference to me smelling different, it hadnt worn off in minutes. In the interests of research I sprayed the back of my hand and then went about my daily routine. Again the smell on my hand seemed to disappear, but on closer sniffing my nostrils were filled with a light citrus smell, lemon and lavender. Over an hour and the smell became a little heavier making it more noticeable to me, but the actual citrus aroma remained unchanged.
I wore this from 10 in the morning until 10 at night and the smell remained the same after that first hour. Polo Blue has amazing staying power. I have fallen in love with Polo Blue.
So, I liked it, but did anyone else? Yes, Ive worn this today to work and received several compliments from male and female staff alike. When I mentioned that it was Polo Blue I was hit with a standard response of Ralph Lauren dont do a Blue one do they?
Three sprays of the atomiser made me smell lovely all day, and from a 75ml bottle I can see this lasting for well over 6 months at a time. Excellent value for money.
Polo Blue is an aftershave for all occasions be it work, a night in or a night out on the tiles. This is a fragrance to suit all, its wonderful and Im extremely glad I was introduced to it. This fragrance is in the fresh vibrant category of aftershaves along with Joop and Acqa Di Gio.
Launched in 2003 Ralph Lauren Polo Blue wasnt hyped nearly as much as it deserved. This is an amazing aftershave. It smells gorgeous, will last all day and all night and it will get you noticed by the opposite sex for all the right reasons. You will pull wearing this aftershave, you cannot fail .
Further information about Polo Blue can be found at www.polo.com. Take a look, the prices are in US$ but you do get a feel for the products.
