Once a very popular perfume, Ralph Lauren Polo Sport is seen less and less in shops nowadays, and the best chance of getting some is simply buying it online.
It's a shame as I believe that if this perfume was more widely available like it used to be, it would remain as popular today as it was in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The perfume was released in 1996 but seems to gradually be falling out of public consciousness.
The fragrance has notes of lemon, eucalyptus, spearmint and watermint. The lemon notes are very obvious - the scent is lemony, fresh, zingy and citrussy. As someone who is a fan of citrus notes, this perfume is second to none; the only fragrance that betters this for citrus notes, in my opinion, is my current favourite perfume DKNY Classic.
When you first put it on, the perfume smells very strong, but this gradually dies down, meaning that the scent isn't overbearing, yet you generally don't need to spray it again throughout the day. It's also heavy enough to use as a night time fragrance.
Ralph Lauren Polo Sport is a classic perfume and it's easy to forget nowadays how popular it was when it was first released - it was seen as very trendy.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.
I like to have a perfume that is purely for work rather than use my expensive perfumes as I don't think that body sprays tend to hold their scent for very long and working in close proximety with people I do like to try and smell nice. One perfume I have for that purpose is Ralph Lauren Polo Sport which I initially purchased as a going out at night scent, but since having my daughter nights out aren't as regular so it seemed ideal to use this fragrance for work.
Ralph Lauren Polo Sport comes in a tall white box with a thin blue border at the bottom and at the top of the box is the brand name with the name of the perfume underneath along with a small American looking flag (rather than the stars on the flag there is a small RL). The front of the box also tells me the size of the bottle inside.
The bottle itself is a simple looking bottle, it is frosted glass and like the packaging it has the name and flag on there. There is a long silver lid on top of the bottom and underneath is a standard perfume nozzle with which you release the spray. Even though the bottle is frosted, you can still easily see just exactly how much of the perfume you have left and know in plenty of time when to replace and I think that is great as I would dread to totally run out of this!
Polo Sport is quite a strong sharp fragrance and I would say it is really quite citrussy. The top notes in this perfume are citrus, orange blossom and bergammot. The middle notes are freesia, lily and rose. The base notes are musk, cedar and oak moss. I would say this is the only perfume I have ever owned that I can actually pick out any of the notes and this is definately the citrus in there.
I absolutely adore this fragrance, it is perfect for day use and is just as lovely for a night out but I would say however that since using it for work it isn't something that I would go back to using at night. When using the perfume it comes out in a really even spray and it is quite a fine mist so it doesn't wet you through or leave any mark on your clothes. When wearing the scent I find that it lasts a good few hours and I rarely have to reapply during the day so for me that is a major plus with the perfume. My personal opinion is that this fragrance is really best suited for a younger woman (even though I feel pretty old now i'm 30!!!) but I still feel this is an ideal perfume for me and would imagine it could well be for quite a few years yet.
The one downside with this perfume is that it now seems to be quite hard to get hold of as many shops don't appear to stock it any longer, however it is quite easy to track down online and many online retailers do stock it. The price of a 50ml bottle can vary from around £19 up to around £26 so although it isn't a great difference it is best to shop around where possible.
I would very happily recommend this perfume as it is a lovely strong scent that will last for a good part of the day. It is the one perfume I will buy myself over and over again and is a close second to my favourite Hugo scents.
Thank you for reading my review :)
I have been wearing this as a day fragrance for several years, in fact since it was issued in this country. When I find something I like I tend to stick with it. Unfortunately it is not now being stocked by many (any???) high street stores and it seems the internet is the only way to get hold of it. Don't be put off by the name "Sport" - its not just for ladies who play hockey or whatever. Its quite a young fragrance, more woody than floral, so if you like the sweetness of Anais Anais, or the deep heady scent of something like Poison, its probably not for you. Frosted bottle with very simple lettering gives it a classy appearance - unlike some of the "celebrity" fragrances out at the moment which have to have a bottle which shouts "Buy me" as the fragrance will probably not stand the test of time.
This was bought for me as a present for my 21st birthday and it must be reall good cause even my other half commented on it. My best friend swears by it and wears it all the time. It's not overpowering like many perfumes i've tried, but has a really nice light and flowery frangrance. I'd definitly buy it again and i will probably need to soon as i have been using it non stop for the past two months, it seems rather expensive in comparison to some other perfumes especially when worn weveryday but in my opinion it is well worth the money
Described by Ralph Lauren as a 'fragrance designed for the woman who regards fitness as the ultimte beauty tool', this perfume is subtle but fresh. Its aroma is one of clean, feel-good fragrance oils, from orange flower to melon, with hints of water mint and freesia. It is the perfect scent to spritz on after a heavy workout or simply at the end of a long day at work. It is not, however, hot date material because it is too light, too airy and overall, too neutral. This is the sort of frangrance that a bloke wouldn't mind rubbing off on his shirt because it doesn't reek of feminity, it's more a feel-good fragrance for anyone. Saying that, it does suit women better, especially as it contains an element of moisturising skincare oils in its ingredients. All in all, an energetic, clean-smelling scent that gives a girl everything but a perfectly gym-toned body.
This perfume is great!! It is one of the new trend of modern perfumes.....being strong yet fresh (not heavy like many of the traditional fragrances). The smell lasts for the majority of the day, although very strong when you first put it on it does die down to a great fragrance. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T PUT TOO MUCH ON!!! You only need a small quantity which makes it pretty good value for money. I am on my third bottle so I must like it and I also have some other Polo Sport products to use in conjunction. If you are going to get it, hunt around!! In a lot of the department stores they often have offers where you can get free gifts...I already have a Beach Towel, Travel Bag and Washbag through my previous purchases!! Definately a nice perfume....young women will especially love it!!
Last year, I was on my way home from Gran Canaria. Sitting on the plane, there I was, counting out how many Pesatas I had left to change over when I got back into the UK, when an air-hostess was walking by with the duty-free's. I had just finished looking at the DF catalogue thinking 'what shall I buy'? I saw the Ralph Lauren Polo Sport for women at only £17.50. BARGAIN!!! On her way back I asked if I could purchase it, so I did. Not having that many 'nice' perfumes I thought I'd have a go at 'cheap' expensive perfumes, and this one seemed to say 'buy it'. I think it's usually priced in boots at around £25.00 or something, so I got a real deal. The packaging is ok, in a white box with the logo on the front, it looks quite boring but in it's own way it's actually quite attractive. The bottle is a clear glass bottle, again with the logo on the front. I'd say that this perfume is an 'out at night' scent, it's sweet but floral and strong at the same time. It makes me sneeze like hell, I tell you that. Being strong when you spray it on yourself, it does calm down after a while. So when you go out, you just smell MMMmmmmmmmmm!!! My ex-boyfriend loved it and still says I smell nice now when I see him. I've worn it most times going out, either to parties, family do's, clubbing, the pub or just minging out at a friends in the evening and it lasts for ages, I end up still getting a slight whiff of it in the morning. If I wear it to work, which is hardly ever, it still smells when I get home, you definately get your moneys worth, believe me. And if it means my ex-boyfriend still complimenting me, then I must be doing something right.!!! You may think £22.50 is a lot for a bottle of perfume, but trust me it lasts an awful long time and you won't be dis-appointed. I still have just over half left,
and I spray loads when I wear it too, it lasts bloody ages. I doubt I could use it up if I wanted to.
My husband bought me this perfume to wear on our wedding day,it is a lovely suble fragrance with a hint of flowers, yet is still fresh and light.I love the fact that you can also buy other things in the range,I also use it with the body lotion,it smells quite strong and first but after a few hours it calms down and combined with the perfume, means you have an all over scent. I would recommend this perfume to those women who normally like simple, fresh scents,I also wear CK1 and tommy girl, but this scent will always remind me of my wedding day.
