Ralph Lauren Romance Eau de Parfum
by wazza115
Back in 2000, my first holiday with my other half was a last minute deal to Tenerife and whilst we were there, he brought me this along with the body lotion so I have some very happy memories from wearing it.
The bottle is very simple, a square, the lid is silver and to the base of the lid is the word Romance in black ... writing.
Currently available is a sizes from 30ml to 100ml and the prices range from around £35 to around £70. It is available at larger department stores such as Debenhams, but also available online at fragrance shops, Boots, Amazon etc. The packaging is quite pretty yet very basic, it is baby pink with the product name in black writing on the front.
According to basenotes.com, the fragrance is as follows:
Top Notes - Sungoddess Rose, Ginger, Camomile, Lychee, Marigold, Yellow Freesia
Middle Notes - Lotus Flower, Night Blooming Dailily, White Violet, Violet Absolute
Base Notes - Patchouli, Oakmoss, Exotic Wood, Skin Musk
I find the fragrance really quite floral, so I was quite surprised that I liked it as normally I am not a floral fragrance fan. I would say that the rose and freesia is quite dominant upon first spray, this subsides quite quickly to leave a beautiful subtle fragrance. I say subtle because it isn't very strong and despite this being EDP, I do find that the fragrance doesn't hang around too long either, a few hours after applying, I cannot smell anymore, neither on my skin or on my clothes. I did find that if I sprayed on top of the body lotion, the fragrance was a lot stronger.
For me, although this appears quite an adult fragrance, it reminds me of some very happy, romantic and 'loved up' times. Overall, whilst I don't wear this anymore, it certainly appealed to me back in the day I would give 4 out of 5 stars.

Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Eau de Toilette
by springtide
"Fashion is over very quickly. Style is forever." Ralph Lauren
Polo Blue, mmmh! lovely EDT by Ralph Lauren used by the three most important men in my life. My husband, he of the "Master under God Sea Captain, my Dad still a charmer at 89, and my boss who puts up with me bullying him on occasions and still ... continues to pay me! My husband is the lucky owner of the EDT, after shave and the shower gel. A past Christmas present from good friends and although his sense of smell is not the best, eg "That toast your making is not burning, it is on fire!" He can be persuaded to use a splash of Polo Blue because it smells good on him when we are going out for the evening.
Ralph Lauren is a tremendously successful designer now in his 73rd year. Born in America to Polish immigrants he started his own fashion line with a tie that he designed and sold to the depatment store where he worked. His range now encompasses clothes, fragrances and furnishings and he is known for his love of the "Preppy American Style"
For me scent is all about the atmosphere that it creates and the places that it takes you in your imagination. After a little reading I discovered that this EDT was designed to evoke the style of life that the "Hampton's" in America encapsulates. This is the place where the Kennedy's spent the summers, sea, sand, days spent on the water sailing or watching a polo match with friends. The great outdoors but the best bits without the discomfort!.
Appearance.
The bottle is very understated being a plain, curved bottle shaped like a flat hip flask but made of beautiful, luminous sapphire blue glass. On the front in silver is the iconic polo player, just about to strike the ball. The top is silver coloured too and pulls off easily, with it's flat top it balances the bottle perfectly. I don't go in for collecting things but this is one bottle that I will keep when it is empty. The spray is silver coloured and works easily to give a little spay of the fragrance. The box for the bottle is the matching dark blue with the polo player picked out in silver. Very classy.
The Scent.
Well I've learned a lot researching this. Polo Blue was launched in 2003 and was created by Carlos Benaim and Christophe Laudamiel and is classed as an Aromatic Fougere for men though quite a few women use it too! As my nose is still very much in training here is the perfume pyramid taken from Fragantia's website.
Top notes are melon, mandarin, orange and cucumber.
Middle notes, basil, sage and geranium.
Base notes, musk woodsy notes and washed suede.
My Polo experience.
Whether I or my husband use this, the first fragrance which I get as soon as I take the top is melon! I couldn't place it until I read the ingredients but melon is definitely there mixed in with the citrus and the cucumber. The melon fades away quickly for me and I actually prefer this fragrance a couple of hours after it has been sprayed on when it becomes more herby and not as sweet. It definitely lasts for the evening and always smells fresh and clean.
For me it will always be the fragrance of going out for the evening in the Summer after a hot day's work in Spain where we live. It reminds me of good company and happy evenings, definitely a Summer fragrance for me It appears to be liked by all ages and is a confident and understated fragrance. The bottle that we have contains 125ml and retails around 50pounds, so thank you kind and generous friends.
I hope that you try it and see what you think.
4 out of 5 stars from me as although I like it I do not absolutely love it..
Thank you for reading my very much a beginners review of a fragrance. I also post on Ciao under splishsplash Read the complete review |

Ralph Lauren Ralph Eau de Toilette
by wazza115
When it comes to perfume, one of my old favourites is this. I originally brought it at the duty free at Birmingham Airport back in 2000 (so it has been going for a while) and always have a bottle on the go.
The bottle itself is very simple in design and has nothing fancy about it, the bottle it clear glass which is great as I ... can see how much is left, it is cylindrical but looks like it has been squashed down. Around the middle of the bottle is a bright blue band with the Ralph it big white letters.
The fragrance is as follows according to base notes:
Top Notes - Apple Tree Leaves, Yellow Freesia, Italian Mandarin
Middle Notes - Japanese Osmanthus, Magnolia, Linden Blossom, Freesia, Boronia
Base Notes - Musk, White Orris
I found the fragrance is very fresh and fruity, I tend to wear this perfume in the summer months during the day because it is quite light and not overpowering, because of this however, I don't tend to wear in the evening for nights out as I like something a little stronger and heavier. It does have good staying power as I can still smell on my clothes the following day.
I really like the spray on all these bottles, it sprays a nice fine mist, I have experienced fragrances in the past that just 'squirt' out leaving dribble marks on you clothes!.
The perfume comes in three different sizes, 30ml which retails around £28, 50ml which retails for around £38 and 100ml for £53. I always but either the 50 or 100ml bottle as the smaller bottle just doesn't last long enough! One of the benefits of this being an older fragrance (I think it was launched in late 90's / early 00's) is that it is always on offer. Debenhams always seem to have it available at half price and I always manage to seek out a 10% discount code when I buy online.
The only downside for me is that I have never seen any matching items from the same range such as body lotions or shower gels, I have never seen this available as part of a gift set.
Overall, I would recommend this fragrance and would give it 5 out of 5 stars. I just hope the sun stays out so I can spraying it again very soon!
