I used to use Charlie body sprays when I was younger, they used to be really cheap and smell really nice, and only recently I noticed that Charlie also make Eu de Toilette. After tying the Blue colour, my grandmother (who loves a bargain more then me!) brought me the Charlie Eu de Toilette Red, for only £4.99 from The Perfume Shop, but I honestly thought it would just be cheap and cheerful.
The packaging of the Charlie Red is a red, cardboard box, the top is a darker red, which fades into a lighter red. The writing on the packaging is simple, it just has the Charlie logo and the product, and I have to say that Charlie claims that the Red is an Eu de Toilette, rather then a Eu de Cologne. The bottle is a frosted glass type, which looks really expensive and professional, which I love! The top of the bottle is silver, and on the front of the glass is written "Charlie Red", which is written in red. I personally love the bottle, I think it looks really pretty and attractive, also very appealing for potential customers.
To use the Charlie Red Eu de Toilette is very easy to use, it is very similar to other perfumes. Just push the top down, which releases the spray, and spray directly to the skin. I personally found the push top down easy to use. I personally found that spraying the Eu de Toilette around 20cm away for a lighter coverage, perfect for day time, and around 10cm-5cm for a more intense coverage, but again it depends on mainly personal taste.
The scent of the Charlie Red Eu de Toilette was a really unique and feminine, which is pretty much perfect for me! The scent is a mixture of different scents, Jasmine, Lilies and Roses are the obvious scents, which make the scent quite floral and fresh. Again for perfect for Summer! Other scents within the scent is honey, musk and violet, which give the scent a really sweet hint to it, but it is completely overpowered by the gorgeous floral scent. The scent is perfect for girly girls, women who love floral and sweet scents but also perfect for the summer, as it's so fresh and easy wearable. The scent is quite strong, so only a small amount of the perfume is needed to get maximum impact, but for a night out you might want more of a intense cover.
The effects of wearing the Eu de Toilette were really positive, the scent was really unique and I got a lot of comments about how nice it smelt, but also wearing the Eu de Toilette really was nice for those long summer nights! I really enjoyed wearing the fragrance. The biggest bonus for me was the lasting power of the scent, it lasted all day, and was as powerful as if I just put it on, I only needed to reapply when I went out for a night out, but I'm fairly sure I didn't have too!
I would recommend Charlie Red Eu de Toilette as it really is a nice fragrance, sweet and floral, but also it is easily wearable, perfect for day or night. Plus easy to wear for work. The fragrance lasts throughout the day, which is perfect! Plus the 100ml bottle lasts ages, as the scent is quite strong, you only need to put a little bit of the Eu de Toilette on, which is great value for money.
Charlie Red Eu de Toilette is available at Boots, Superdrug, bigger supermarkets and shops specialising in fragrances. The price range is extreme from £4.99-£15. Mine was brought for £4.99 at The Perfume Shop.
Charlie red i have used for a good few years and i would say the fragrance is for young people teenages to people in there twenties, this is my favourite out of all of THE Charlie range. I use the body spray or get
the 100ml bottle and the bottle last me ages.
Charlie for 100ml is only £ 4 a bargin at a perfume shops, supermarkets ae a bit dearer from £5 - £15. The price is ideal for people who don't have a lot of money and like floral strong smells.
This perfume comes in a nice red box thats shiny with Charlie Red written on it.
The bottle is clear so you can see he perfume inside it.
The perfume has a nice long lasting floral smell, the fragence has a musk smell.Charlie Red is strong perfume and so you don't need to put a lot on which makes the perfume last longer.
Will carry on buying this perfume for years to come :)
Charlie Red was the first scent I ever wore from about the age of 15 (and I'm 28 now) and it reminds me so much of my teenage years! It's a scent in the Charlie range by Revlon, aimed at younger women (though my mother in law loves Charlie Red so it really is suitable for all). This review is for the Eau De Cologne however I also used the body spray, and in fact they often are sold as a set.
It's very reasonable in terms of price - a mere £4.99 for a 100ml boxed bottle. A real bargain! It comes in a red cardboard box with a script font Charlie on the front and RED in capitals. Inside there is a frosted glass bottle with a silver spray dispenser. The perfume inside is slightly beige.
The dispenser sprays OK - a bit wet, as in the drops it sprays are more of a direct spray than a mist which you get with slightly more expensive atomisers. It's best applied to the decolletage and wrists though you can also spray it in your hair - I'd recommend not using too much as it is a fairly strong scent and it is pleasingly long lasting.
The scent is apparently oriental floral - I'd class it as a floral scent, definitely, however I'd say it had a strong musk undertone, too. The scent has three 'layers' to it (according to the Perfume Shop), main notes are carnation, tuberose, orchid, jasmine, ylang-ylang, lily-of-the-valley and rose, with top notes of orange blossom, gardenia, plum, black currant, violet and peach. The base notes (the longest lasting) are honey, sandalwood, amber, musk and cedar. Of all the different scents in Charlie Red, I'd say the most predominant are the lily, jasmine, musk and cedar. It's a sweet floral with long lasting undertones.
I do like the scent, and do own a bottle of it but I rarely use it now. I think I associate it so much with my teenaged years it feels almost silly to wear it at nearly 30. I do like the scent and every now and again someone will buy me a can of it which I'll use, but this eau de cologne will last me forever, probably. I do wear it now and again for nostalgic reasons. As a budget every day scent you really cannot knock it, most people I know like the smell, and most can identify it as Charlie Red. It's not a scent I'd give as a gift to anyone over say 17, and it's not one my husband would buy for me as a love gift, but it is one that I wore for years, still like, even if it might be a bit old fashioned now, in the same way that I quite like Brut but it is still pretty old fashioned!
Overall I will have to give Charlie four out of five stars. It's a pretty scent and it lasts a long time, and for a fiver, you really can't complain. It might have been surpassed by more modern expensive scents but I wore it every day for years and loved it, and I'm sure the same goes for today's teenagers (and my mother in law ;) )
Since being young, I have always really liked the Charlie's range of fragrances by Revlon.
Years on, and I'm still 'treating' myself to bottles of Charlie red perfume!
The Red fragrance has always taken my fancy and I know it's also a favourite with many others!
Even better, the price seems to have dropped dramatically for this range in various places!
I buy my Charlie red from Tesco at an amazing price!
Tesco- 100ml for £4!
Boots- 50ml for £8.13 at the minute.
A big difference in price to say that Boots website is saying the usual price for this fragrance is £12.20!
Amazon- 100ml for £6.79
The perfume shop- 100ml for £4.99
The bottle isn't anything fancy, but who cares? It's the price and the smell which matters after all.
The bottle has an ugly tall silver lid, which doesn't stay on and is easily lost. The bottle is the same throughout all of the Charlie perfumes; plain and transparent with the Charlie label on the front.
The smell lasts all day, I've had many comments from people telling me I smell nice, asking what perfume I use and most of the time, I'm surprised at the reactions as it can be much later on in the day when people notice the smell, hours after I've expected the fragrance to have worn off!
The smell for me can be described as floral although it is strong and so better in moderation.
I'm not sure if others would agree, but this fragrance reminds me of a milder scent of the 'Knowing' by Estee Lauder... and considering the verrry high price difference between the two perfumes, Charlie red is an excellent buy!
I will continue to buy this perfume; the price is fantastic which means I don't have to worry about how much I am using. Compared with my other fragrances given to me to by my boyfriend, costing over £45 which I am too scared to use because of the price! Charlie Red is a fantastic every day use perfume, perfect for any occasion.
Thanks! I also post on Ciao
I remember this being my favourite scent in the Charlie range. I used to drench myself in it in the hope of getting the boys. Not sure if this worked or not though.
I spotted a bottle of this in my local discount chemist, and although I hadn't used this for about 15 years I thought I would buy it and try. After all the price for this was good. I got the 30ml bottle for £1.99. I thought this was a great price, but i've since seen you can get 100ml bottles of this for £4, so perhaps not all that good a price. I remember back in the day when a 30ml bottle this probably cost around £8. Things have certainly changed.
This looks exactly how I remember it to look. A sort of simple but strange shaped bottle. This has frosted glass and you can see the light liquid through the glass. The lettering is on the front and the silver lid gives a bit colour or decoration to this. It's like the bottle is more flat at the front, but a bit pointy and angular at the back. The box is just a simple red coloured box.
So this certainly smells like how I remembered this to smell. It's hard to say what this smells like as I find with the cheaper, more aimed at young teenager kind of scents then I find the notes hard to spot. It's just like there is a mish mash of different scent and I would say since this is more a heavier scent then I think there is things like Jasmine, Sandalwood and Musk in here with perhaps the odd White floral perhaps Orchid or Lily, and a slight sparkling scent through this. It smells alright, and I can see why I liked it, but it's not a scent I would probably wear all that often today. It's still an ok scent, but there is just so many nicer ones out there thesedays.
For being sold at such a cheap price thesedays it is a nice, long lingering scent and I will use the bottle up, but just not reach for another one.
I remember charlie red from my teenage days as all who have tried this perfume would say the same,
bring's back so many memories.I remember before going out with my friend's for a night out spraying some charlie red and feeling excited to go out and live it up,i still buy this perfume till this day and the smell reminds me of some good times.
I love the smell of this perfume it has a classic and sophisticated aroma and long lasting smell, not overpowering in anyway just right.
Charlie red comes in a perfume bottle and aslo a body spray, the body spray is just as nice,i wear this perfume on a day to day basis and people always comment on the smell saying its really nice and ask what perfume is it,when i reveal to them its charlie red they are surprised.
Another bonus of this perfume is of coarse the price is easily affordable,i get my charlie red perfume from a shop in halesowen called body care and it's 5:00 and it's also this price in ASDA and the body spray at the moment is 1:00 in ASDA but is normally 1:33.Its a great bargain for a great smell, excellent for a christmas or birthday gift too.
I would urge anyone to try this perfume if you have not already tried it,trust me you wont regret it and to be honest for 5:00 you cant grumble,it may become your new favourite perfume ; if you dont want to pay 5:00 at first you could try the body spray and see what you think.?
Thankyou for reading
~Charlie Red, just one of Charlies Angels!~
The range of Charlie fragrances has been on sale for some time now and has fallen out of favour with younger fragrance buyers to some degree. I feel this may perhaps be due to the fragrance being placed amongst the cheaper fragrances on side aisles in many stores rather than on the main fragrance displays. For those of you who have worn Charlie Red and enjoyed its fragrance, where the the bottle is displayed in shops will make no difference. For new buyers and those yet to try the fragrance I feel that its rather a shame that Charlie Red doesn't get displayed in more prominent positions amongst the rest of the fragrances, as it is a very nice every day fragrance that won't break the bank and will last rather well once its on.
Having worn Charlie Red I can say that I found it to be rather similar in many ways to the once highly favoured Beverly Hills Giorgio. Whilst Charlie Red is very close in many ways to the other fragrance mentioned here, it does have a softer air to it that makes it easier for a wider range of fragrance buyers to wear and enjoy. The Charlie Red fragrance is long lasting and I have found that I only needed to spray a small amount of the fragrance on to my skin in order for it to give off a lovely long lasting scent that was full and well rounded with a nice mix of florals and warm base notes.
~ The look!~
The Charlie Red fragrance bottle is in keeping with the other Charlie fragrance bottles and has very little that really sets it apart from other fragrances in the range. I feel the frosted effect is rather nice as it adds a little well needed interest to what is a very plain glass fragrance bottle. The bottle shape is wide and squat with a narrow lid that creates an illusion of height. The bottle is easy to handle and has a certain heaviness to it that means it will sit happily on a dressing table and won't fall or roll without a good push, so shouldn't be easy to knock over.
The spray applicator is simple and sits on top of the plain frosted glass bottle in a secure way that means the bottle will not leak any fragrance. The tall round cylindrical silver lid is very plain yet functional and stays on well when the fragrance it not in use. It is also easy to grip and take off when you want to spritz on some of the fragrance. The Charlie logo sits in the centre of the bottle and I rather like the casual script used as it gives off a relaxed feel. The fragrance name is underneath that and is just large enough for you to tell it apart if it is sat next to another fragrance from the same Charlie range.
The box is in a good strong red shade with a metallic look to it and it once again shows off the Charlie name to good effect. The text shows this to be an EDT natural spray rather than the EDC it shows here, yet they are one and the same fragrance, as this is the only Charlie Red you can buy. I feel the look of the product box is rather 1980s in its execution although its not unattractive to me. I found the box held the fragrance bottle in place well, protecting it as needed and was easy to open when I wanted to use the fragrance within.
What does Charlie Red smell like?
As mentioned earlier I really do feel that the fragrance has a similar feel to Giorgio and if you were a fan of that fragrance you may find that the slightly lighter Charlie red scent is a cheaper way to enjoy a similar fragrance. I cannot say that Charlie red will last as long on your skin as Giorgio does, however I can say that it will last a good number of hours without needing any more help to keep it going. When I first spray this on the the fruity notes are very nice and they give a slightly fresher feel to this warm oriental blend. I feel this has a slightly aged feel to it that is not in keeping with the over sweet florals that are fashionable right now and its rather nice to be able to wear a fragrance that feels a little different like this one does.
The fruity floral top notes in Charlie Red are blackcurrant, plum and peach, they are mixed with pretty orange blossom, gardenia and violet. I feel the fruity florals are there when I first spray the fragrance on but are not all that long lasting as they soon soften down into a more musky jasmine and amber based scent. The heart notes in Charlie Red are tuberose, orchid, jasmine, ylang ylang, lily of the valley and rose. Warm honey, sandalwood, amber, musk and cedar form the strength giving base notes which allow the fragrance to remain for some hours on the skin. I rather like the tangy fruity opening the fragrance has and even though it fades quickly it is very pretty and easy on the nose. The warmer tones as they come in are very pleasing and make Charlie Red an enjoyable fragrance to wear.
~Price, Rating and Summary~
Last time I purchased a bottle of Charlie Red it was on offer for a little over £7 for a 50ml bottle, although the usual selling price is just over £10. I feel that is very good value for a fragrance that endures so well in use, as there are many more expensive fragrances that cannot compete with the longevity of Charlie Red when in wear. At the moment gift sets with the Charlie Red fragrance in are plentiful and there are some very good deals to be found. As an example Boots are selling the Charlie Red gift set containing a huge 100ml bottle of the fragrance as well as a 75ml body spray for just £9.99. This would be perfect for fragrance layering.
The Charlie Red gift set forms part of the xmas 3 4 2 offer which means you could purchase this within that offer. The Charlie Blue fragrance is also on the same offer. Over all I feel the Charlie Red fragrance has more to offer than you might think. I feel it has a long lasting scent that changes over time and is very easy to wear. It can be a little heavy if you are over generous when applying it. Apply it lightly and its sure to last for many hours without being too much. Charlie Red will appeal to a wide range of age groups and will suit those who like a fruity oriental fragrance. As far as rating Charlie Red I feel it has a nice scent that is easy to wear and so I would like to give it a 4 star rating.
Charlie Red is the first perfume my mother bought for me. She used to be a big fan of it and decided to buy it for me. Like Charlie Blue review I have mixed opinions on it.
The perfume comes in a nice red box which is a beautiful colour. The perfume is in a very large bottle which isn't the prettiest thing but it is durable and holds alot of perfume. 100ml of the stuff infact. It has a large silver cap to cover the nozzle. My problem with this cap is that it gets scratched alot. I'm not too bothered about this but I wish they had made a better effort. The perfume is clear which I like. Unlike Charlie Blue it isn't striking and bold which is good.
When spraying this perfume sometimes alot of it sprays out and it doesn't go into a fine mist. This is a real pain as my clothes get stained and my skin all soggy. You have to give it a firm hard press for it to go misty. You only need about 2 sprays as it is really strong and it will last a long time.
The perfume like all other charlie perfumes is very floral and sweet. When you first smell and apply it it is very strong and citrus like. It can also smell kind of sickly. As the day goes on the scent changes alot and I find it becomes unbearable. It smells really old fanished and really spicy and musky which I don't like. Its not very nice at all.
You have to re apply Charlie perfume several times during the day (not that you'd want to). It only lasts for about 2-3 hours as it isn't an Eau de Toillette. The bottle can be quite bulky to carry around with you so I would only recommend it if your staying in the house.
I would only recommend this scent if your an older person. It can smell really nice on you but it doesn't suit the younger generation eg teens. Don't wear it on a big night out.
It is fairly cheap at £8 so good for teens if they want to smell like this.
I was able to use this Revlon Charlie Red Cologne Spray. I purchased it in my favorite perfume store with a 30% off when bought together with Revlon Charlie white cologne. So I purchased the two red and white bottles considering the 30% savings I could make.
Revlon Charlie Red Cologne Spray is indeed a very good cologne. It has a very feminine floral scent. It has a very appealing flowery fragrance, just right for any casual day. It is not so strong and the scent is not stingy. Instead, it leaves a very delicate scent.
The fragrance of Revlon Charlie Red Cologne Spray makes me feel clean all day long. My friends love its scent. I personally don't recommend using it for formal evening parties. A stronger perfume must be used for those events. The mild and delicate scent of Revlon Charlie Red Cologne Spray is very ideal for any casual day, when a mild scent is needed.
The scent doesn't stay long on skin. I have to spray again in about 4 hours. Well, it is a cologne and cologne's scent are not really intended to last long on skin. It is not as concentrated as Eau De Parfum and has lesser staying scent than Eau De Toilette.
The simplicity of floral scent this perfume captures attention due to its clean, delicate and very feminine fragrance. Revlon Charlie Red Cologne Spray is ideal of everyday wear.
Hmmm Charlie by Revlon - what springs to the mind of many people is preparing for one of their first dates, the teenage anticipation of maybe a first kiss, clouds of talcum powder, and getting your Dad to collect you after the date.
Evocative as it may be, I'm now in my thirties, but I still love Charlie - in particular Charlie Red. For me, Charlie Red is an adult perfume, with a sophisticated, classic smell, and not reminiscent at all of my teenage years (in fact I spent my teenage years drenched in Calvin Klein Obsession - the most overpowering perfume ever!).
I've flirted with other perfumes, (in particular Paco Robanne XS pour elle, which unfortunately is no longer made). I like a sweetish smell with tart undertones. However, I've always returned to Charlie Red for both my perfume and body spray.
Despite its school girl reputation, I wear this on a day to day basis and I get a surprisingly large number of compliments from both men and women. Women, in particular ask me what perfume I am wearing, and are usually surprised when I reveal it's Charlie Red.
Another bonus of this perfume is the price - it's easily affordable for those on a budget. I managed to get a Charlie Red gift set in Boots just after Christmas with a body spray as well for £2.50. Unfortunately it was the last one, but it was a bargain! It's available from loads of discount fragrance retailers online at very competitive prices, as well as from Boots or Tescos etc.
I would therefore urge those who have not considered this scent for many years to take another sniff as it may be the answer to retaining your glamour in the Credit Crunch. If not, it's bound to be appreciated as a gift for a teenage relative!
