A pleasant scent for younger women

Review of Revlon Charlie Silver Eau de toilette

I was given a Charlie Silver gift set last Christmas which contained a 30ml fragrance spray, a 50ml tube of shower gel and a body spray. Charlie fragrances have never actually been a particular favourite of mine, but as it was a gift, obviously I had little or no choice! I put the set to one side and only opened it recently.
This review concentrates on the fragrance.

      **Packaging and Scent**

Presented in a frankly dull bottle, the actual scent is clear. The bottle is made of clear glass too, the shape is vaguely triangular and the spray mechanism is white. The product name and all other details are printed on the glass in a blue font.
The fragrance is described by Revlon as a fruity/floral scent. I found the scent to be a fairly strongly floral at the first sniff. The scent was (to my nose) magnolia with an under note of lily of the valley.

The middle notes are most definitely fruity; I can detect apricot, pear and peach fragrances. These make for a fresh, yet warm fragrance. The fragrance does seem to change fairly dramatically during use, it starts as a floral and transforms into a more 'green' scent.

Where Revlon Charlie Silver falls down in my experience is the staying power. Whilst it does seem fairly strong at first, it definitely does not last well on my skin. After a very short time, only a couple of hours, I can barely notice this fragrance. Of course, fragrances do vary from person to person, which is why it is always wise to 'try before you buy' a new fragrance.

      **Price and Availability**

As my Charlie Silver was received as a gift, I do not know how much it cost or where it was bought. I have checked on line and have discovered that this fragrance is very reasonable, price wise. It can be found in various High Street stores and from on line stockists.
To give an idea of price, the 30ml EDT is on average around £5, making it a budget buy in my opinion.

      **My Thoughts and Conclusion**

My thoughts on this fragrance are mixed; it is a light pleasant scent but does not last long enough on me. The price is very fair and for a light, everyday fragrance, it is a good buy. I do feel that the staying power is rather poor and even though the price is low, you would need to top up this fragrance regularly. Having been given a gift set with three items, I can of course layer this fragrance, which is my preferred way to use this type of product.

In my opinion Revlon Charlie Silver is probably best suited to a younger woman or teenager. The light fresh scent makes it an everyday fragrance and it is certainly affordable. I wouldn't actually buy this for myself as I prefer something with a little more 'oomph', but I would say that it is worth a try if you like a floral, fruity fragrance.

I am awarding this fragrance a 3* rating, dropping stars for the lack of staying power..

      Thank you for reading

I don't really think that this should be awarded any stars...

Well, as you can probably guess from the title, this review isn't going to be giving much credit to Revlon.
When I first saw this in a store I thought it was intriguing as I hadn't seen the Charlie range do an Eau de toilette before, I never bought it as I was never really a Charlie spray fan to be honest. A touch too masculine for me if I'm completely honest.

As you can imagine, this was bought for me as a gift a few months back, and you can't say no really; so back of the dressing table it went. Until one day, I hadn't even taken it out of the box, and I just took the slightest whiff and it smelt very masculine. It's very overwhelming and it gave me a headache almost immediately. I could smell it on me all day and it made me feel ill. I understand that the product was intended to be for women, but this would probably only work on an old lady or man. The bottle is clear, stating in silver writing 'Charlie Silver'. The only Charlie product I've ever remotely liked was the red perfumed body spray.

This product has been successful globally but it hasn't been successful for me. It is very sweet and just the overall essence of it is sickly. Revlon, the makers of Charlie have released a range of perfumes. I believe that it was Charlie: Red, Blue, Gold and Silver. I personally, haven't tried the others, as being put off so badly buy this. The bottles are very big and heavy, another reason why I was put off. It's quality, not quantity. The bottle has 100ml of fragrance in it and takes up a lot of room in it's tall, wide box. You can pick up these perfumes for about £5.99 a bottle (I know!). This makes me think, firstly that it's not quality and secondly that they just want to sell as much as they can for as little cash as possible!

You can buy the Charlie fragrance collection in all major cosmetic stores and local Boots stores. I got mine as a present, and would never buy it personally, even before smelling it. I don't recommend this product and honestly wouldn't advise any of you to buy it. I hate to write reviews where I can't give any credit to the brand, even one as big as Revlon, as they've given us some excellent products in the past; but I just can't find ANYTHING good about it, sorry. The only way I would recommend this to anyone, is if your a man who doesn't mind wearing women's perfume and having a consistent headache. ;)

Wearing the perfume, it lasts for about 7/8 hours, so a good lasting fragrance. And for the benefit of the site and it's readers, I did wear the perfume prior to the review to give a more up-to-date and valid opinion. Thanks for reading and I hope this review has been helpful to all of you reading!

          A cool fresh scent

Revlon is a known name in the perfume industry. It was founded in 1892 in London. When I see the name Charlie it always reminds me of slapsticks but luckily when I use this scent that image quickly goes away. I normally buy the Charlie Silver, while there are also different one available as Charlie Blue, Charlie Gold and Charlie White. I prefer the silver version because I feels more neutral timeless and suitable for different situations.

The perfume comes in a beautiful shiny silver box. On the box you see you in blue handwritten letters the name Charlie and the product name Silver. Of course you can also see the brand name Revlon. All the way down you see 'Eau de Toilette'. On the sides and back you can find the ingredients and the substance.

The bottle itself is made of transparent glass with a long shaped cap. On the bottle isn't that much information and only the product name Charlie Silver. It's a very simple looking bottle but that also makes it more timeless I think. It's not a bottle I would give for somebody's birthday and would be better as a small thank you gift.

Charlie Silver is a fresh fruity fragrance. When you spray the fragrance you will notice a nice fresh cool scent that isn't overpowering. You can notice hints of lemon which I suppose makes it fresh. In the fragrance is also amber and musk which are more on the background. I think it's more the lemon that you will notice. Overall a nice cool scent.

The fragrance is available in a 100 ml for the price of around 7 pounds which I think is a reasonable price. It's a nice scent but at the same time nothing special. For me it doesn't really stand out and it's not a strong scent. It does last for a good five hours I think. For the seven pounds I would say it's definitely worth the money but I wouldn't pay more for it.

            .

The Charlie brand takes me back to when I was a young teenager. My 2 favourite Charlie scents were Red and Silver. I picked up a 50ml bottle of this for £2.99 in a discount chemist.

I remember this smelling nice, but going back all those years I think I thought anything smelt nice, so how would it cut this these days?

The box and bottle for this is alright. The box is a rectangular shaped box which is shiny silver with the Charlie branding over the front of it. The bottle looks like the Dooyoo picture. It is nice enough, but doesn't looks all that fancy and anyway it isn't expensive and doesn't try to be.

So when I first sprayed this and it came wafting out I then remembered how strong this scent was. I probably used to lager myself in Perfume, but after just 1 squirt of this I could certainly smell it. Instead of hoping the boys would come to me, I was probably killing them off!

I couldn't tell you what the notes were in here, as it's just all chucked together and seems to have a hint of Hairspray about it that caught me in the back of my throat, but apparenty there is Magnolia, heather, Grape blossom, Peach, Lily of the Valley and Lime in here, but I cann't decipher anything. After about 30 minutes the initial strong scent has went away and left behind not that much as scent at all. I resisted the urge to spray more, but I will still use the bottle up.

I'm not saying it's a horribly bad scent, it's just a typical teenage cheap scent in my view. It's strong and there isn't much going on in here.

Was I glad to try it again after all these years? Well yes. It took me back a bit, and I can see why I probably thought it was a nice enough smell back then, but lose the strong scent, perhaps add a few lighter notes in here and it may end up a nice enough adult Perfume as well.
