Launched : 2009
Group : Citrus aromatic
I'm perfume collector and own a series of three eau de toilettes miniatures released in 2009 by French cosmetics and fragrance company Sisley.
All three eau de toilettes come in a tall, clear and cylindrical bottle with a stopper reminiscent of the emblematic sculpted head of Sysley's flagship fragrance Eau de Soir. The simple, white packaging is adorned with the Sisley crown logo this time in more eye-catching, red and green colors, possibly denoting a sweeter, girlier scent?
Top notes : bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit, lemon
The first note I'm getting of this eau de toilette is slightly green, fresh lemon with that seconds later gets mixed with a warm and spicy note that's immediately recognisable as fresh and aromatic ginger. Within minutes, the composition sweetens up a great deal thus creating an impression mouthwatering, freshly-baked, warm and zesty ginger - lemon cookies for about 15 minutes.
Heart notes : osmanthus, ginger
As the head wears off, the warm and fresh, greenish sharp fragrance develops a powdery, sweet undertone that softens the composition. The fragrance is mainly fresh, green and slightly bitter and sharp despite the floral influence that I cannot pinpoint exactly. The heart could be summed up as an increasingly powdery, slightly sharp accord that's underpinned by spicy and warm ginger, an overall fairly unisex blend that radiates well and stays pretty much unchanged for the next 4 - 5 hours.
Base notes : patchouli, musk, benzoin, vetiver
It only takes about 6 hours for the base notes to appear and the fragrance takes on a distinctly sharp character due to the strong lemon aroma that so far stayed in the background hidden under the floral and powdery elements of the heart. The grassy and earthy vetiver blends in with the lemon and gives it an increasingly dry and masculine touch. The composition finally dries down to a powdery cloud of lightly sweetened and slightly spicy ginger-tinged musk that lingers close to the skin in the last 1 - 2 hours.
It seems Eau de 3 is the sweetest and softest out of the lot however I wouldn't say it's particularly feminine especially its drydown which is downright masculine to me. The muted florals, the underdeveloped sweetness and the ever present citrusy freshness prevent the scent from developing its softer and feminine side.
The blending is well-done and this time there's enough depth to keep the interest up all the way and yet I'm struggling to imagine myself wearing this eau de toilette even in hot weather. It does offer a less common, spicy and powdery heart I enjoyed, the harsh drydown and its lack of warmth would dissuade me from buying this cologne especially at the extortionate price it has. To ladies, recommended with caution; to gentlemen, give it a try!
