It desparate need for some perfume, I concluded that I wasn't going to be able to spend a large amount on a new bottle. With Christmas around the corner I needed every penny I had to spend on others and treating myself properly was out of the question. Though I wasn't going to allow myself to go without perfume at all, so off I went in search of something affordable and, hopefully, exciting.
Browsing the fragrances in Superdrug, all I could see was pricey celebrity options: Coleen, Kylie, Britney. While I do like a good celebrity perfume, it was not an option there and then. I was just about to give up hope, but as I was walking out of the store I headed down the aisle containing the body sprays and deodorants. It was then that I discovered a shelf of perfumes.
These little perfume bottles were made by the same manufactures as the body sprays. There seemed to be a lot of Charlie products, but there was also a little line of 'So...?' perfumes. One in particular caught my attention. The packaging to 'So...? Superstar' leapt out at me straight away. The bottle comes in a little square cardboard box, a deep shade of black. The writing on the front is a gorgeous gold shade, tastefully decorated with pink bursts of stars. Its title too was appealing, the word 'superstar' sending me into a showbiz fantasy. I don't think I would have cared if this smelled awful - I reckon I still would have bought it!
Thankfully however, this perfume was delightful. The 20ml bottle itself is quite little in size, and square in shape. The clear bottle allows you to see through to the clear perfume. Removing the circular gold lid, you are faced with the traditional silver spray nozzle. Aiming for my wrist, I gave this a push, squirting the perfume twice onto each wrist. Straight away the aroma filled the air around me - a very rich and delicious scent. It smells a little like when you first walk into a proper fruit shop, only heavier and more elegant. As it fades there isn't much of a distinguishable scent, though it is still luscious.
Curious to find out what the mix of scents actually were, I headed on line to look for the notes. It turns out that the top notes consist of orange, pomegranate and passion fruit, which takes us a step closer to understanding why my room smelled like a fruit shop for a while! A little while later, this scent fades into the middle notes, which are freesia and muguet. Now in all honestly I have no idea what they smell like, and even what they are, but I do know that they smell wonderfiul - as the top notes drift away the scent of the perfume is still simply delightful. The bottom notes are made up of almond and musk. I think it is quite hard to detect the almonds, but it is a very heavy scent, very elegant.
Because we are taken from fruity to musky in just three 'layers', this perfume is handy for all occasions. Though personally, given the elegance of the packaging and the name of the product, I'd wear it more as an evening perfume (despite the fact that I'm sitting wearing it just now at half one in the afternoon!). It lasts for a good few hours, but it is not one that will keep you going all day long. Luckily though since it is quite a small bottle it will fit into your bag easily.
Thankfully, this bottle was indeed cheap and fitted my price range. At just £4.97 a bottle in Superdrug, I have no complaining to do whatsoever. It is also available from Boots, which I wish I knew at the time - could have done with the 16 Advantage Points! It makes a great gift idea - it looks quite expensive and certainly smells it to - and would be wonderful if you popped in maybe another perfume and a few So...? deodorants into a sparkly gift bag. This isn't going to break the bank and it definitely worth seeing if you can find it. Although I do prefer my celebrity perfumes, this is definitely one I will find myself going back to whenever I have a perfume-related emergency. It's glamorous, it's luscious, and it's got a price tag to match!
