Review of Wonderstruck Taylor Swift Eau de Parfum
I always say that I never win anything and was born under an unlucky star. This year has proved me wrong though as I have won several rather nice prizes including a beauty hamper and a £50 voucher to spend on shoes.
I attended a local coffee morning held for Cancer Awareness recently, it is a yearly event in my area and I always try to attend. I bought a couple of tombola tickets during the morning and quite expected to win either nothing or a tin of baked beans, as is the norm for me.
To my absolute amazement, I won this bottle of fragrance!
I don't actually go for celebrity endorsed fragrances that often and to be perfectly honest I didn't even know who Taylor Swift was until I asked my 13 year old granddaughter! However my ignorance of modern singers does not detract from my perfume!
According to the blurb on the back of the box, Wonderstruck was created for Taylor Swift by perfumer Olivier Gillotin of Givaudan.
Wonderstruck is presented in a beautifully over the top bottle and this in turn is in a pretty purple and gold cardboard box.
The colour of the glass bottle is a rich deep purple, which is embellished with a gold coloured font. The gold coloured lid is enhanced with a chain bedecked with little charms. My granddaughter has already purloined this! The bottle is a pretty shape too, it is vaguely egg shaped with a flattened base which means it sits securely on a flat surface.
Wonderstruck is an interesting fragrance in my opinion, at first sniff it is a floral, fruity scent with a slightly mossy background, but it soon matures into something more sensual and sophisticated.
The fragrance top notes are Freesia, Green Tea, Apple Blossom, Raspberry, and Dewberry. The heart notes are White Hibiscus, Honeysuckle, Mimosa Flowers and Vanilla. The deeper base notes are Amber, Sandalwood, Musk, and Peach.
I have always favoured fragrances with an amber/sandalwood/musk base, so no wonder I like this!
The fragrance has an easy 'push to spray' mechanism which works well, allowing just the right amount of fragrance to escape when depressed. I have noticed no problems with this.
Being an Eau de Parfum as opposed to an Eau de Toilette, this fragrance has a pretty good staying power. On my skin, it lasts for a good 4 or 5 hours and even the following day I can still detect it on the clothing I have worn the previous day. As with all fragrances, staying power is a personal thing as everyone's skin is different and as a result fragrances can vary in both scent and lasting abilities. This is why it is always best to try a fragrance sample in store before buying.
I think this fragrance is a good all-rounder in that it could be worn both during the day and for evenings.
==Price and Availability==
As mentioned, I won this fragrance so did not purchase it myself. I have looked on line for pricing information and have discovered that the size I have (50ml) is available in High Street stores such as Boots for around £29.00 and from various on line retailers at similar prices.
The Wonderstruck fragrance is also available in a smaller 30ml size at around £20.00 and as an Eau de Toilette which is cheaper. Boots also stock Wonderstruck gift sets with fragrances and body lotion for around £20-£25.
==My Thoughts and Conclusion==
For a fragrance that I didn't really hold out a great deal of hope for, this has surprised me. I fully appreciate that it was designed to appeal to the younger end of the fragrance market, but I am enjoying using it even though I am in my 50's.
The design of the packaging is pretty, feminine and modern while the fragrance is a fairly traditional scent with a modern twist. The fruity floral is a delightful scent and the rich heady amber and sandalwood base notes give a really deep fragrance hit to the wearer's nose. It is one of those fragrances that I feel one needs to take care not to overdo, as it could easily become overpowering.
I consider this fragrance to be a really lovely scent and a far nicer prize than a tin of beans! Seriously, I think Wonderstruck would appeal to all age ranges and might make a good Christmas gift for a fan of Taylor Swift.
Incidentally, I still haven't heard this singers music, but I love her fragrance and am happy to award it a 5* rating. I would recommend this fragrance to others.
