Advantages: Smells gorgeous

Disadvantages: None for me . May not be everyones cup of tea

Before Christmas we had the usual Secret Santa shenanigans at work. Now as much as I love Christmas (boy do I lurve Christmas!) I wasn't all that excited about the gift exchange this year due to the fact that for the last three years running I have ended up with a stingy box of chocs (I must sound sooo ungrateful but a little bit of thought wouldn't go amiss!)

However, times are a changing and this year (well last year) I was in for a pleasant surprise. After squeezing and shaking my prezzie I knew that my Secret Santa person would live to see another day for this was definitely no box of chocolates. The present was a Body Shop gift set containing 'The Spirit of Moonflower' goodies including the subject of my review - the eau de toilette.

A bit of history

The Body Shop was established in Brighton in 1976 by Anita Roddick. Roddick started her business with 25 kinds of products in five different sizes of bottles, designed to be refilled. This way of selling the products gained popularity, and now the Body Shop has more than 1,200 branches in 45 countries.
The Body Shop's main aim is to make the world a better place to live in by returning more to society than they receive. It believe's that just to pursue profit without having principles is wrong and to be avoided. The Body Shop's principles are environmental protection, consideration for human rights and civil rights, movements against animal testing in cosmetic trade, fair trade and so on.
Their most famous policy is that all of their products are "natural" and "100 percent pure."

The Bottle

It stands at about 3" high and my bottle holds 30ml. I believe you can also buy it in a larger 60ml size.

The bottle is made of clear glass with a hint of salmon pink. There is light pink italic writing on the front stating that it's 'the spirit of moonflower' (no my grammar is not poor - it is written completely in lower case on the bottle!) And, of course you've got the well known Body Shop logo there on the front too.

On first setting eyes on the bottle, I thought the lid had come off; however it is actually just a small, bog standard cap in a matt silver finish with the Body Shop logo embossed on the top. This slides off revealing a matt silver push pump spray thingamajig (yes, that is the technical term!).

The Smell

When it comes to all things smelly, I'm very particular. I usually only stick to one brand of perfume (Cerruti 1881) as I know it smells nice on me and isn't overpowering or headache inducing for me and those who smell me! (Not that I have people sniffing me all day!)

That is why moonflower is perfect for me. It's very delicate but noticeable in a non offensive kind of way. It's sweet without be sickly.

This is the description of the spray on the Body Shop's website:

'As night falls the rare Moonflower uncurls its petals to reveal a beautiful white satiny bloom filling the air with it's light floral scent'

Aaah! Isn't that lovely!

I would say that the light floral scent part is pretty accurate although in my opinion this is more of an underlying smell. I would describe it as having more of a fruity hint about it. Infact the fragrance notes according to the website are:

Top: Melon, Green Complex, Coriander, Gardenia
Middle: Lily of the Valley, Moonflower, Lime Blossom, Cyclamen
Base: Jasmine, Rose.

A lot of perfumes I have tried in the past don't tend to last long at all but Moonflower stays on all day and what's more, it holds it's crisp fresh aroma throughout the day too.

Although it's quite versatile I think 'Moonflower' is definitely a "day" perfume. It's good for these cold winter days as it has quite an uplifting summery scent and it's perfect for the summertime due to the fact that it is such a light and airy perfume.

Price

It costs £6.00 for the 30ml bottle. It's definitely good value for money as you just need a couple of quick squirts and it's on for the day. Obviously if you douse yourself in it then this will affect the value quite dramatically!

Overall

Would I recommend 'Spirit of Moonflower'?

Yes, I would highly recommend it to people of all ages unless you prefer heavier, musky scents. However, if you're like me and can't carry off a strong smelling perfume, then I would definitely give this a try.

Get down to your nearest Body Shop and get a couple of squirts free first!

Their white musk perfume reminds me of childhood, all my friends used to wear it in Year 6 or primary school! Sam
