I really like The Body Shop and especially their range of perfumes, which are varied and affordable. One of their most recent scents is the White Musk Libertine perfume, which is a twist on their traditional White Musk fragrance. I'm not a particular fan of the original White Musk, but I do like scents with a musk aspect or undertone. I tried the tester spray of this perfume in store one day, and liked it so much that I bought it.

The sensual White Musk Libertine is described as "a bold new twist on musk". It is made up of a blend of cruelty-free musks, with sweet notes of Turkish delight, baby orchid and Chantilly cream. The perfume is made with Community Fair Trade alcohol, which comes from sugar cane organically grown in Ecuador. The organic farming methods used by the CADO co-operative here, from which the alcohol is sourced, help preserve the natural beauty and wildlife of the Cotopaxi provinces in the foothills of the Andes. I purchased the eau de parfum, which cost £12 for 30ml, though I always use a special offer or discount code so probably paid around £7-£8. I think The Body Shop's perfumes are very reasonably priced, much cheaper than your designer brands.

The shape of the bottle mimics the traditional White Musk fragrance, a clear frosted glass bottle with a clear lid that is pretty and sophisticated. However, whereas the traditional bottle is shaded lilac, the White Musk Libertine fragrance bottle is a dusky pink. It's easy to see how much perfume you have left in the bottle.

I liked this fragrance from the moment I tried it in the store. It is a sweet, sensual musky scent with echoes of the richness of Turkish Delight. I'm not sure what baby orchid and Chantilly cream smell like but there is certainly a floral undertone to the scent and a creamy aspect to it. It's different to any musk I've smelled before because of the sweetness, but the muskiness prevents it from being sickly. My mam recognised this as a musk scent when she smelled it on me, and said it was nice despite not liking musk scents.

I feel that this is definitely a winter fragrance as I believe it's a bit too sweet for the summer months. It's not heavy exactly but it's not light and fresh like, for example, The Body Shop's Dreams Unlimited and Japanese Cherry Blossom perfumes.

The perfume lasts four or five hours on the skin and doesn't change greatly during that time, though the musk scent becomes a bit more pronounced. I think this is because the musk is worked throughout the scent rather than only being present in, for example, the base notes. I wish it lasted a bit longer, but then again this is pretty good for such a cheap perfume. It does last on clothes - I've sprayed it on a Monday and still smelled it on my coat on Friday!

I do highly recommend this perfume. It smells lovely and is excellent value for money. My bottle is now around half full and it should last me the rest of the winter, which is excellent timing. It would be good for anyone who likes musk-based sweet scents.
