Advantages: Offers a pleasant musk aroma accompanied by orchids

Disadvantages: Initially too sweet with the packaging focusing on the floral tones as opposed to the musk

I'm a huge fan of The Body Shop's White Musk range, particularly as it is well suited for daytime use due to the fragrance being fairly delicate. Consequently, a few months ago I was delighted to discover the introduction of their new musk range, namely White Musk Libertine and this review discusses my experience with using the 30 ml glass bottle of eau de parfum.

I must admit that I took a gamble with this fragrance as I purchased it on line without trying out a tester, but as my experience with White Musk is very favourable I was pretty certain that I would be happy. In addition to my positive experience with their musk range it was the fact that Libertine contains the aroma of Turkish delight that attracted me and I was intrigued to discover how it would compliment the musk fragrance.

I would never consider any of The Body Shop's fragrances to be particularly eye-catching as the majority of the bottles look much the same with their simplistic design. The appearance of the opaque bottle is extremely girly with its pink coloured liquid contained within, which I do not feel is suitably marketed towards a musk fragrance. However, as the eau de parfum also contains notes of baby orchid it seems that The Body Shop have focused on the floral tones as opposed to the sensual musk. As The Body Shop has an ethical approach to all of its products where they are made from cruelty free ingredients I was pleased to learn that the musk has not been obtained from the secretion glands of the male deer and that it has been artificially created.

We are provided with an easy to use pump spray dispenser where the eau de parfum is released in a fine mist. I tend to spray my fragrances on my wrists and the back of my knees to enable the aroma to delicately rise as I walk. I found the list of notes contained on The Body Shop website a little confusing as I am familiar with the three levels, namely top, heart and base, which are commonly found in all perfumes. However, the musk tones are contained throughout, which I found a little surprising.

The musk is evident, but significantly differs from the aroma with which I'm familiar in the original fragrance as the accompanying Turkish delight delivers a sweet aroma, which is considerably cloying. We are greeted with the delicate tones of baby orchid, which assist in masking some of the sweetness, but initially I found the fragrance too heady for me as I am not a fan of sweet fragrances as they tend to give me a headache as well as making me feel nauseous. Fortunately, the sweetness gradually reduced within an hour or so of application and despite being evident it was a little more subtle. The fragrance also contains Chantilly cream, whatever that may be, but this was rather favourable as the tones were evident throughout the lifetime of me wearing the perfume.

As you may be aware eau de parfums contain 7 - 15% perfume and as a result, the fragrance lasts much longer than an eau de toilette. The strength differs from one perfume to the next, but I found that this fragrance tends to provide approximately 3 - 4 hours of aroma, which I feel is pretty poor for an eau de parfum. I cannot admit to being that impressed with this perfume, particularly as I found myself continuously comparing it to the original White Musk, which is a very sensual fragrance. However, I would not dismiss purchasing the body lotion, which would no doubt offer a more delicate aroma.

Whilst White musk offers an array of accompanying products to layer its beautiful fragrance, White Musk Libertine is somewhat limited, which is probably due to the fact that it is newly introduced. You can obtain a body lotion, body wash and the fragrance is available in an eau de toilette and body mist.

I do not believe in copying long lists of ingredients into my reviews unless I have suffered adverse effects when using. White Musk Libertine Eau De Parfum is available in a 30 ml bottle for £12 and if you shop online with The Body Shop you will frequently find offers where you can obtain a good discount. I feel I can award only 3 stars to this fragrance as I was expecting something sensational, particularly after being used to the original White Musk, which is absolutely stunning.

I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.

Summary: A pleasant aroma, but it doesn't live up to beauty of the original White Musk
