Released as a limited edition fragrance in 2006 A*Men Summer Flash by Thierry Mugler is a lighter version of his popular signature male scent, A*Men. When first launched the bottle stood out on the shelves being a light, almost alien-like green colour and fits in with the styling of his other scents particuarly the original A*Men which has a stylised blue appearance and B*Men which tends to be red.
I bought my first 100ml bottle back in 2006 and since then have only had to buy a couple of replacements as I do tend to only wear this in the summer months when the weather is hotter. The original A*Men is a heavy, woody scent and lends itself better to the colder autumn/winter months and although I will wear it at any time of the year sometimes I like a fresher, lighter scent for the summer months.
The first thing you notice when you spray this fragrance is a light woody aroma which is fresh and uplifting, the overall smell is made up of bergamot, aldehydes, roasted coffee, patchouli, caramel, Tonka bean, tar, musk, vanilla and chocolate and together they combine to make a light, interesting fragrance which lingers for a good 6-8 hours during the day. I find that a few squirts on a morning will pretty much stay around me for the duration of the day with only a top up needed if I have had a bath on an evening before going out. Once the inital freshness of the scent has calmed down there is a bright minty aroma which is cooling and definitely lives up to its Summer Flash name and whilst the original A*Men is still my personal favourite smelling cologne this does remind me of the heavier, original version and makes for a great summertime alternative.
Interestingly although Summer Flash was released as a limited edition fragrance back in 2006 the ingredients that have gone into its production have been used again in Thierry Muglers latest creation, Ice Men and confusion between the two scents is commonplace. As I also own Ice Men (I have the full range of Thierry Mugler scents) I know that the two scents are identical and whilst Ice Men carries a premium pricetag (around £40-£50 for a 100ml bottle) Summer Flash is still available online from discount perfume retaillers (cheapsmells.com for example) at around £20 for the same amount so there are bargains to be had with this particular name.
For me, Summer Flash is reminiscent of CK and Paul Smith fragrances and would suit those who like a fresher scent rather than a heavy one. There are enough similarities between this and the original A*Men for me to rate it highly and for the past 4 years I have been reaching for my bottle of Summer Flash whenever the weather turns that little bit hotter.
As far as availability goes A*Men Summer Flash in the bottle illustrated above will be quite difficult to track down now as it has been replaced with a rectangular blue glass bottle but does still carry the same name. Prices do tend to vary depending where you shop and you can expect to pay anything from £20 upwards for a 100ml bottle. It does sometimes appear in store in Debenhams expecially in the summer months but the original A*Men and Ice Men seem to be the best sellers in Muglers range and are the ones that are more heavily promoted, if you can track it down then I would certainly recommend it but do look online first.
Overall then A*Men Summer Flash comes out with a very good 4 dooyoo star rating from me - definitely recommended for the summer months, for a fresh, uplifting scent this gets the thumbs up from me.
Thanks for reading my review.
