Thierry Mugler Angel Pivoine Eau de Parfum
Advantages: beautifully well chosen fragrance notes, bottle, staying power, overall scent
Disadvantages: price and availability, the peony isn't very strong
Peony Angel(aka Pivoine) was launched in 2005 and is part of the Garden of Stars collection that Thierry Mugler released. Other fragrances in this collection focus around floral notes including rose, violet and lily.
Peony Angel is described as being suitable for all year round use as it will develop on your skin whether it is hot or cold. Peony Angel has been created using different sets of fragrance notes :
*Top notes offer the initial scent - peony
*Heart notes form the body of the scent - rose, black pepper and lily of the valley
*Base notes round off the scent - vanilla and patchouli
Thierry Mugler perfume bottles are far from being plain and boring. Peony Angel is presented in a stunning, beautifully crafted bottle which is similar to the other bottles in the Angel collection. The bottle is made from faceted glass and is an unusual, upright star shape. A pretty pink star arrangement acts as the lid and adds a splash of colour to the design of this bottle.
This bottle is gorgeous and really looks unusual on my dressing table. The point of the star lid is quite sharp so this isn't the ideal bottle for carting around in a handbag in my opinion. It is functional but more decorative than many bottles. The bottle can be refilled.

I am a huge fan of the Thierry Mugler brand so when my sister was clearing out her perfume collection recently, I jumped at the chance of trying Peony Angel. I didn't realise how rare this EDP actually is and as far as I can tell the collection was a limited edition collection. Thank goodness for eBay and other websites! My sister gets bored of perfumes quickly and whilst she liked this one she just couldn't be bothered with it anymore. Her loss is my gain!
I have a 25ml refillable bottle. Back when this was first released, Thierry Mugler counters would be able to refill the bottle for you at a reduced price but this is only available for the current line of perfumes which is a shame. I find that Thierry Mugler perfumes are very unique in terms of scent and bottle design and this one is no exception. I will admit that I didn't like the original Angel EDP at first but it grew on me and I would say Peony Angel had the same effect. The moral of the story is - don't give up after trying it once as it may just grown on you!
I don't like heavy floral perfumes so was pleased to discover that Peony Angel EDP isn't an overpowering floral scent. It is easy to spray too much of this as I have found. I favour a spray on my wrists and neck and this simply offers a beautiful cloud of scent for my skin and clothing. Peony Angel flutters into action with a light, fragrant floral aroma which is balanced out by a delicate sweetness. This aroma is beautifully feminine and smells gorgeous on my skin.
After a short while, the peony starts to fade a little and is taken over by the well chosen heart notes. I absolutely love the combination of scent notes that develop on my skin here. I'm not normally a fan of rose but it is presented in such a lovely way here. The rose is more sweet than it is floral and reminds me of rose essence. At times I catch a whiff of what makes me think of Turkish Delight! As time goes on, the pepper note starts to become evident and adds a warming touch of spice to the rose and very subtle peony. It is a truely unique combination and one which I find really pleasant indeed and almost food-y.
A good few hours later, Peony Angel develops once more on my skin and here I start to notice a resemblence to the original Angel EDP. The rose note still lingers but in the background and in a subtle manner. It is still noticeable though and the floral composition of this EDP is upheld. The patchouli and vanilla are perfectly sweet and not the slightest bit artificial. The subtle floral notes stop the base notes becoming sickly sweet and they all seems to blend together to form an almost chocolate/rose aroma. Very delicious and a treat to wear.
Peony Angel won't appeal to all. If you appreciate the gourmandy aroma of Angel but are looking for a lighter, less sweet alternative then Peony Angel may be suitable. I found it perfect to wear during the day or in the evening and it smells equally as beautiful in hot and cold weather. I would say it is more suited to those in their 20's upwards. Those looking for an intense peony aroma will be disappointed though as the peony doesn't come through as strongly as I would have imagined it to.
Peony Angel EDP develops at a steady pace on my skin and is still noticeable on my skin after a good 7 or 8 hours. I do still prefer the original Angel EDP but really like the way Peony Angel has been created. Peony Angel fits in well with the Angel collection whilst having its own character and charm. The different scent notes have been chosen well and I have received compliments whilst wearing this perfume.
Thanks for reading :)
