Advantages: Great for teens

Disadvantages: Not for everyone

*Introduction*

Tommy Girl Cologne was the first perfume that I ever owned. I was 15 years old and my parents bought me a bottle of this for Christmas. I thought I was the bee's knees with my bottle of perfume rather than a body spray that I had used in the past. I have since been through three 30ml bottles of the stuff.

*The Claim*

Tommy Girl is a refreshing, bright, floral fragrance that is inspired by wildflowers gathered from the American landscape. An effervescent scent, Tommy Girl evokes an energetic and independent spirit.

*About the Product*

Tommy Girl's bright floral notes are energetic and fresh. The fragrance opens with a vibrant bouquet of intoxicating camellia flower, apple blossom, mandarin and tangerine. The middle notes contain honeysuckle, butterfly violet and Cherokee rose while in the base wild heather provides clarity to the scent.

*Price and Availability*

Tommy Girl Cologne Spray can be bought from a variety of different shops including Debenhams, Boots, The Perfume Shop and House of Fraser. You are also able to purchase this perfume in Wilkinsons and bigger Tesco stores. It is also available to buy online from www.boots.com if you prefer to buy perfume via the internet.

You can buy this perfume in 3 different size bottles. The prices for these average at around:
- 30ml bottle: £10
- 50ml bottle: £29
These are very low prices for what is an average perfume, perfect for young girls who want to feel grown up and wear a perfume. I don't know why anyone would buy the 50ml bottle though as you can buy three 30ml bottles for the same price and get a lot more for your money. Very strange pricing!

*My Opinion*

The packaging: Tommy Girl Cologne Spray is a clear, glass bottle which has three sides. These sides narrow and join towards the top of the bottle. What I like about this design is that it reflects the light nicely and makes the glass glisten, especially when the sun hits the bottle. The bottle is fairly sturdy and can withstand a fair amount of being dropped on the carpet (and I do this a lot as I am rather clumsy, especially when I was younger), although I don't recommend it.

The lid of this perfume is great as it is large and silver which means if you knock it on the floor (which I often do with lids) it is easy to find again. It actually looks a bit like a wine glass screw on lid but don't drink the perfume. It also clips on well to the perfume bottle which is always a positive thing as I positively hate lid that don't attach properly.

The design of this bottle is clean, plain and basic but at the same time, not quite boring due to its ability to reflect light. It is not mature and sticks with the theme of being directed at a younger audience.

The smell: The scent of Tommy Girl Cologne Spray is energising and flowery as well as being quite girly. At the same time, it has a slight fruity smell; quite citrus-like. It is the perfect perfume to wear in the summer and is most definitely more of a scent that you would wear during the day time. It is very strong and powerful when too much of it is worn but if it is lightly spritzed on, smells fabulous.

The smell of this perfume alone reminds me of when I was younger as it is a young, fresh smell and I started wearing it as a teenager. I no longer wear the perfume simply because I have worn it for a long time and gone through a few bottle of the stuff and perhaps got a bit bored of the smell or just outgrown it. But don't rule out buying it as an adult because you might like it. Everyone is different.

The scent of this perfume is fun and is actually like an affordable and more youthful Clinique Happy. So if you wear Clinique Happy and your daughter secretly uses this, buy them Tommy Girl Cologne Spray and you might get them to stay away from your more expensive perfume!

Staying power: The staying power of this perfume is actually pretty good for something that is so cheap. When initially sprayed it is quite a strong scent but when it hits lunch time you may find that the smell has faded away significantly. At this point, you may want to spray again to keep that perfume smelling fresh.

How many squirts of the perfume are required? I would say that three sprays of this perfume will last you until midday. Any more than this will make the scent too powerful for anyone to want to stand around you! I used to make this mistake and my mum would just roll her eyes and tell me I was wasting the perfume whilst also ruining the smell because I was wearing too much. I soon saw that what she was telling me the truth.

Longevity of the product: The longevity of the product is actually pretty good as you don't need too many squirts of the perfume. This means that the perfume lasts a very long time, even when used on a daily basis. The 30ml bottle will probably last you approximately 6-8 months depending on frequency of use.

*Would I Recommend This Perfume?*

Tommy Girl Cologne Spray is the ideal perfume if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a gift but want it to appear quite expensive. I would recommend this perfume for teenage girls. It will satisfy their desire for a perfume whilst at the same time not having spent £30 - £40.

Would I buy it again at my age now? No, probably not. I feel that I have grown out of the smell and it reminds me of my days when I was at school/sixth form. It is not a sophisticated scent but it is fruity and youthful so if you are having a bit of a mid life crisis and want to feel young again buy this! It's cheaper than a car.

*Overall*

Tommy Girl Cologne Spray is a great perfume but I feel that I have grown out of the smell and whole image of Tommy Girl. After all, it is called Tommy Girl and not Tommy Woman. But it is a refreshing floral yet fruity smell that is really quite cheap and long lasting. Give it a go and see what you think.

Summary: A girly scent at a low price

I also got this for Christmas when I was 15! I didn't get on with Clinique Happy but I wonder if I got a dodgy bottle of that, as a lot of people seem to love it!
