This is one of my favourite perfumes which after finally finding out what it was, I use as my 'best' perfume for evening wear and going out. It will suit people with a sweetbsmelling nose. I used to smell this fragrance on people as it's a powerful smell that cannot go unnoticed. I absolutely loved it and made effort to find out what it was. It's not particularly cheap, however it does last a long time so only a couple of sprays needed.
One disadvantage to it is the bottle. Dispute it being quirky and attractive, it's not the ideal perfume to take away with you. The bottle is a round squirty bottle that if compressed will spray the perfume. They used to come with a plastic case which you could lock them in to avoid them being compressed when in your bag, however they do not come with this anymore so you would have to be very careful where you pack it, unless you make sure to keep the box. The other slight disadvantage is that you never seem to be able to quite finish the bottle. This is probably standard with any perfume where there are always small amounts at the bottom that cannot be reached, however I think it is more obvious with the Ultraviolet bottles due to the shape of them.
It really is a perfume that is noticed when worn. I receive so many compliments and queries when I wear it from other people. I would highly recommend the product and probably worth stretching to the bigger bottle as you get far more ml per pound.
I love to try different fragrances and am always trying out something new. I first tried Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet years back when it first came out and have since bought again and again.
Available to buy in Boots, Superdrug, department stores and your usual high street perfume shops and online perfume websites like www.fragrancedirect.co.uk. I do like Fragranec Direct becausse they ofetn have perfumes available on special offer and can work out cheaper than buying it on the high street.
Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet is available in a gift set for £44 or at Fragrance Direct for £32.50 saving you £11.50. It contains 50ml of eu de parfum and an innovative key-shaped USB stick, capable of storing up to 512MB of data. This is very unusual from what you get in your normal gift sets and personally it's not for me but hey ho they're moving with the times and I'm getting older lol. Also available in 30ml for £19.95 and 80ml for £32.50. Those are the discounted prices on Fragrance Direct and on the high street they may be slightly more expensive. I've checked Boots and there is a MASSIVE difference in price!! The 30ml is £32.50 and the 80ml is £45.50!!! So it really pays to shop around.
The bottle is very different in shape for each of the sizes. The 30ml is an egg shape and the 80ml is more like a flying saucer shape. With the 30ml it still sits upright on your dressing table because it comes with a plastic container that you sit it in. They both have silver tops and clear glass bottoms and you can see the lovely purple perfume through the glass.
Make no mistake this is definitely an evening/night time fragrance. It's got a very strong sophisticated scent and from my experience wearing it it's definitely not suitable for everyday wear. When I first got it I liberally sprayed it on and went off to work and spent the day reeking of it. It's very strong and you don't need to spray much at all. It's a beautiful smell and is described as an refreshing, oriental, floral fragrance. A soft blend of an exotic and modern oriental with lower notes of vanilla and amber. It's very warm and sophisticated smelling and is perfect for evenings or nights out. I found smell is lovely and long lasting which is great and I always get people asking me what I'm wearing. The only thing I find with this is that it's oily!!! When sprayed on my neck I'm left with a slight oily feeling. You can literally rub your fingers across my neck where It's been sprayed and see the oily sheen on your fingers!!! It's weird, I don't know why it is and no other perfume I've had has done this.
I love this fragrance, it's perfect for nights out and lasts ages but I've knocked one star off because it leaves my neck oily.

I first bought myself a bottle of Ultraviiolet after smelling it on a friend and falling in love with it straight away. I was surgically attached to my Boots Advantage card at that point so, as it was quite an costly purchase, I waited until their next triple points event and headed straight down there.
This is my all time favourite perfume and I wear it all the time. It's way too nice to save for best and just cheap enough to make it ok to use it every day. It's a difficult scent to describe...it's not a sweet or fruity fragrance, more of a subtle musky fragrance. Rather than being overpowering it is gentle and light, but lasts for a good while once you've sprayed it on...I generally only reapply once a day when I'm wearing it, and to be honest, that is mostly because I just want to be able to smell it more strongly myself rather than because it's worn off altogether.
The packaging is unlike any other perfume I've had in that it's in a round bottle, round as in spherical, not circular, so doesn't have a square base and has a pump lid. Whilst the shape of the bigger bottle (50ml) isn't necessarily an issue, on the smaller bottles (30ml) it is an oval shape, also without a flat base and doesn't stand up at all. This, to me, is a major irritation as it doesn't stay on my dressing table unless it's hemmed in by other things, otherwise it rolls off. The solution to this problem for me was to use the bigger bottle for morning/evening use and keep it on my dressing table, and use the smaller bottle for top-ups during the day and keep it in my handbag.
The bigger issue with the 50ml bottle is that the pump lid isn't very effective and unless you put pressure on just the right place it doesn't work.
These issues with the packaging design make it a difficult perfume to rate for me...I absolutely love it and if I had to choose just one perfume for the rest of my life it would be this one. So both the bottles, whilst hugely annoying each in their own way, don't really make a difference to me. I would still buy bottle after bottle of this. So for the fragrance I give it 5 stars but the bottle design only gets 2...so don't be put off by the 4 star overall rating, the actual contents are a definite winner!
I first smelt this perfume when a friend wore it. I really liked it so decided to splash out on a 50ml bottle myself. This has now become one of my favourite fragrances.
This perfume comes very neatly and stylishly presented in a shiny purple box and lookd like a very expensive product. The bottle itself is very eye-catching and looks incredibly unique. It is a spherical shaped bottle which has the pump spray mechanism built in to the lid. The silver top lid on the bottle acts like a button which you simply press in order to get the spray mechanism to function. Although the bottle is this shape it has no problem standing on its own.
This fresh fragrance has notes of bergamot, chamomile, sage, osmanthus, Bulgarian rose, jasmine, white lily, carnation, freesia, amber, sandalwood and peach.
I tend to wear this perfume on nights out and not for everyday use, but I think if you wanted to use it for daily use it would be fine as it's not an over powering fragrance, it's a warm and inviting scent. I also find that I do not need to apply much for it to last the whole evening which is good for making the bottle last a long time. Many people compliment me on the scent I'm wearing and often ask what it is.
I love this perfume. It's a very distinctive fragrance which comes in a lovely, stylish bottle. I will definitely buy another bottle of this when mine runs out.
This perfume can be purchased in bottles of 30ml, 50ml and 80ml. Obviously it's like with any product you have to shop around for the best price. In my opinion Boots is probably one of the dearest to purchase from. Their prices for the following are:
Amazon has these reduced just now at the following prices. This is the cheapest I've seen these bottles of perfume.
Ultraviolet is one of my all time favourite perfumes it comes in a variety of sizes the 30ml is egg shaped glass with a silver top and will cost you around £30 this one you need to keep in the box as it can not stand up on its own. The larger perfume bottle which is 50ml is the one which is above it is a flatter glass bottle with silver top which you push down to release the fragrance from the hole. The 50ml version will cost you around £37 Ultraviolet also comes in gift sets which will cost you different prices depending on where you buy it from.
Ultraviolet perfume has a purple tint to it when it is in the bottle but don't worry it comes out clear on your skin. Again I am going to quote from thefragranceshop.co.uk for the notes part as I explained in my previous review I am not one for knowing what notes are or what they do but for those of you who do know I hope you find this useful 'Notes of fresh capsicum, red, yellow, orange pimento, Japanese osmanthus, amber and vanilla. Ultraviolet is blended with an exotic menagerie of fresh spicy and velvety floral notes.' The perfume is also descibed as a 'Woody Oriental (rich)' the description of 'Woody Oriental' according to thefragranceshop.co.uk is 'Rich oriental notes with the potentwood scent of pachouli.and sandalwood'. To me this perfume smells like palma violets you know the little purple sweets and that is what initially attracted me to the fragrance in the first place I remember someone wearng it without me even seeing the bottle and thinking I like the smell of that it reminds me of palmaviolets I want some.
Ultraviolet I find is more of a going out perfume for me it is a strong fragrance which does last and it is one of the ones I wear which people will always comment on. A little goes along way with this as well you only need one squirt on your pulse points with this and that will be enough to get you through the night or day if you want to wear it out during the day. Even though it is a fragrance which is strong and lasts its weird to say it does not irritate me in anyway and is not a perfume which triggers me to sneeze either must be something in the ingreidients of other perfumes that is not in this that triggers my sneeze reaction.
I give Ultraviolet 5 stars and will continue to buy and wear it for years to come.
Like most people, I'm very fussy about the fragrance I wear and so I tend to find one I like and stick to it. I have two favourites at the moment, one I call my 'day' perfume and the other my 'going out' perfume. Ultraviolet is my 'going out' one and I've been wearing it, somewhat sporadically, for years.
I have the 80ml eau de parfum and I paid about £25 for it in an airport duty free shop although I know you can buy it for between £30 and £35 online which is still extremely good value for the size of bottle and the fact that it is eau de parfum rather than eau de toilette.
The bottle, as you can see is purple and completely rounded. The box it comes in is similar in colour, purple with a single silver strip around the centre. Despite the fact that the bottom is round, it still stands up perfectly well on your dressing table or bathroom shelf. The pump for getting the perfume out is built into the shape of the bottle. The bottom half is glass and the top half a silver panel which acts like a big button that you squeeze to get the perfume out. I actually find that you have to push down quite hard to get anything out and sometimes I have to use both hands, which can make for quite a tricky manoeuvre.
The smell itself is lovely. I consider it to be timeless and quite classic. The official description is that it is an oriental scent with 'bergamot, sage, jasmine, lily, amber, sandalwood and vanilla undertones'. I'm not sure about the bergamot and sage, however the jasmine and lily are definitely there. Lilies are my favourite flower and I love the smell of them, which is probably why I like this. It does smell very flowery, but not in an overpowering and fussy way. I think the undertones of vanilla help to balance out the powerful smells of the flowers. I think without the vanilla (a smell that I don't usually like, to be honest) it would be far too strong for me.
Ultraviolet is quite a heavy fragrance, which is why I only wear it in the evening when I'm going out. It is quite powerful and I think it would be too much to wear all the time. I also find that you only need a tiny bit of it and that it lasts for a long time. I often find that I can't smell perfume on myself and so I spray a bit more, but this is not a problem at all with this one. In fact I've had this bottle for just under a year now and I still have half of it left and when I spray it it smells just as good as it did when I got it.
Overall, I would recommend this fragrance as it is good value for money, it has a distinctive and lasting smell and it comes in a very stylish and modern bottle.
I have been using Ultraviolet on and off for several years. Every few years I feel I should move on to something new, and although I do have a large collection of perfumes that I use for different occasions, I always come back to Ultraviolet. It comes in a variety of sizes, I usually buy the 80ml as I think it usually offers the best value for money. At the moment the best price I have found for 80mls is £31.04 at Fragrancenet.com.
Packaging - The box is a deep rich purple colour, with a white band running around the box, and the name "Ultraviolet" written in the band. The bottle itself is an unusual ovoid shape, really pleasant to hold. The top half of the ovoid is silver, and the whole of this silver top half is pressed down to activate the atomiser (it sounds awkward, but actually is quite natural and easy to use). The bottom of the ovoid is clear glass, through which you can see the transparent violet coloured perfume. This is useful as you can easily see when you are running low.
Product - I think the best way I can describe this fragrance is by asking you to remember the smell of those small rolls of parma violet sweets, to me it smells very much like that! It is sweet, heady and definitely not for the faint hearted. Even if you only use a very little it's still really noticeable by the end of the day. The top note is clearly pimento, an uncommon and really distinctive smell. This is followed by osmanthus, which provides the floral element of the fragrance, and finally you can detect soft amber and vanilla. The fragrance is not sharp or harsh when you first spay, instead it starts off deep and rich, and gradually softens and matures. It remains a very strong fragrance and one spay is sufficient for a full evening in my opinion.
Pros - Distinctive and long-lasting
Cons - Could be too strong/overpowering for some.
I used to use Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet eau de parfum many years ago, and when ever I wear this it gives me some great memories from my younger days. Its funny how a fragrance can, for a fleeting moment, transport you somewhere else totally.
I bought this from Semi Chem just before Christmas for £14.99 for a 30ml bottle, which is well worth the price. I have priced it since and it retails for up to £27.00 for the same sized bottle, so really was a bit of a bargain.
The 30ml bottle is very different from the one pictured, it is shaped like an elongated egg, and it feels lovely to hold. The top half is a brushed silver, this also acts as the spray mechanism. The bottom half it totally clear glass through which you can see the actual fragrance. The fragrance is a lovely light purple colour which I think is just the right shade for a perfume by the name of Ultraviolet. To spray the perfume you twist the top silver part of the bottle and press down. This releases just the right amount scent, in a very fine mist.
Ultraviolet is described as a 'floriental', which is a combination of floral and oriental. This perfume is so different to other perfumes that I own, I feel that it is totally original and unique and nothing can compare. The problem with some fragrances are that they are so similar it can, sometimes, be hard to tell them apart.
What I also find pretty unique with regard to Ultraviolet, is the simple notes, they are some that I have not smelled in anyother perfume. The top note is piment, which is basically a sweet red pepper, and it does smell quite sweet when you first spray, but does have a little bite to the scent.
The mid note is the osmanthus flower, which has a gentle apricot smell, and once the top note dry's down, you can definitely smell the fruity aroma, its sweet without being sickly.
The base notes are amber, which is quite light for a base note, and a delicious vanilla. The vanilla combined with the osmanthus makes this a truly exceptional fragrance. It is both warm and exotic at the same time. It lasts really well, and its after the full dry down, that I love this perfume. I do tend to keep this for nights out rather than daytime use, but only because I like it so much, I don't want to feel like I'm wasting it on everyday wear, although it is pefectly suitable.
Would I recommend this fragrance? A resounding yes! I've been buying this on and off for almost 10 years. Any fragrance which still smells modern, exciting and inviting is a sure winner in my book.
Although I love this scent, many people do not, its an individual choice, so please try it before you buy it.
Although this has been around for years and sells for really cheaply, i still havent found anything like it and whenever i wear it i still get compliments about it. I usually buy if from my local Semi Chem where a 30ml bottle sells for £15 but Boots have the same size for £30 so i would recommend having a look around in the discount stores before heading to Boots as i think that is a complete rip off.
The bottle alone is enough to make you want to buy it as you can see from the picture above. That is the bigger sized bottle and the 30ml one i have is kind of like a squashed version in that the bottle is a longer version up and down the way and has a lid that can be removed, wheras the one above you just twist the top silver part.
I normally use this fragrance for night outs as its a bit strong, not overpowering that you will get a headache or anything but i just prefer perfumes for daywear to be a bit lighter and fresher. There is still nothing i can think of that this smells of on the market right now so i'll try my best to explain it! The ingredients say it has amber, apricot and vanilla in it, although i dont think of vanilla when i smell it, but i think apricot must be the unusual ingredient that makes it so distinctive as i havent heard of any other fragrances having thhis in them. There is also something called pimento in it, which i have never heard of before and japanese osmanthus flower. Its described a spicy fragrance and i do agree. Its not at all musky, which is sometimes the case with nightime fragrances and no matter who you smell it on, it always smells the same. This is great as i hate that when you smell a nice perfume on someone but it doesnt smell the same on you. Its really long lasting, but the scent doesnt change over time, i find that its still as nice as when you first spray it as it is later on in the night. I really cant fault this at all, and the aftershave is also just as nice.
I was looking for a fresh new perfume before going on holiday and like every female i was looking forward to duty free. I went into a perfume store to try and figure out what i was gonna go for and after 30 mins and numerous being tested I just wasn't completely convinced about which pperfume i wanted. I arrived at the airport thinking that it wasnt going to be a positive duty free experience. A member of staff was standing there handing out testers and I took one, like we all do, as I walked away I began to smell it and I loved it. I went back to find it was this Ultra Violet by Paco Rabanne. That was it there was no hesitation the smell was wonderful and when i came back my friends smelt it as well and went straight to the shops and bought it. I would definate recommend this perfume as i think its a sexy smell.
I first discovered this fragrance through a friend, who wore it every day, I totally co oped it from her as my signature scent!
The fragrance comes in a very eyecatching bottle with a distinctive shape and mechanism. Pushing the silver top down triggers the spray mechanism.
A main benefit of this fragrance is that it lasts all day with only a couple of sprays, meaning the bottle itself lasts for months, even with every day wear.
Some may find the scent too sweet, but the sweetness fades into a more musky scent as the day progresses.
I would recommend this fragrance for a younger age group, I'd say between 18 and 30, as the sweet, candy like scent may be too much for those who are not looking for a girly, strong scent.
All in all, a very defining fragrance, if you wear it every day, people will swiftly come to associate it with you. Also be warned, if you spray it onto your clothes, especially your coat, it will linger for weeks. This is most definitely a huge bonus for me, but others may not agree.
I stumbled across this perfume a couple of years ago and I instantly fell in love with its stong yet defined fragrance... I have tried different perfumes since then but always go back to this one!
If you like light fragrances then this perfume isn't for you, but if you like to stand out from the crowd then you should definitely give this perfume a go!
Its purple colour and funky bottle makes it look young and trendy and as long as you use it sparingly it lasts a long time yet keeps you smelling delicious! It is my partners favourite too ;-)
This perfume can be worn everyday but I must admit I do prefer to save it for special occaisions and nights out because I know it will definitely turn heads! It could be a little strong if you work in a small space though.
Don't be afraid to try something new!
i never could find a perfume that was right for me,friend and family had purchased various perfumes as gifts for me and i found poison too sweet and dune and opium too spicy and could not get along with perfumes made for both sexes then one christmas my dad decided to buy all his daughters some perfume,to be honest we were worried.dad decided to purchase me ultraviolet and i have never looked back,it is sweet but not too sweet, well presented and modern i love the bottle shape and colour,i always get great comments when i wear it from males and females alike wondering what it is and where they can get it,i personaly cant find anything else that i would wear, only problem at the moment is that sometimes i have difficulty getting hold of this perfume but now thanks to the dooyoo community i will be able to find ultraviolet with more ease.
I won't tell you to buy this fragrance because I like it alot after using it for about one year, and instead I will write about it's positive characteristics. That's because personalities differ and, in order to feel good while wearing this perfume on your skin, you would probably have to be one of those ladies who like strong fragrances.
Like most of the fragrances coming from famous brands, Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet has a long-lasting perfume that could make people around you crazy from about up to three meters away.
I like more the middle note because it's richer, lighter and more pleasant.
The bottle has a smart and eye-catching design and you can slip it easily inside your purse.
I didn't have any problems with the spraying system, while the perfume smells the same as in the first day I got it.
The price I spent on it was medium and I recommend it to ladies who are already used with strong perfums.
I got bought this perfume a couple of years ago and it is gorgeous.
I loved the round bottle and purple colour it made it look very young and trendy.
The scent itself is very distinctive and some people may find it too heavy but as long as you are sensible and only use a little at a time you should be fine.
Because it does have such a strong scent i mainly wear it for a night out or special occasion as i think it could be a little overpowering for wearing to work.
I have had 2 bottles of this all together and i did find a problem with the second one. When i was only half way through it, it stopped squirting any out. No matter how hard i pressed it it just didn't budge. So unfortunately for me i had quite a bit of wasted perfume.
