“ Brand: Umbro / Type: Fragrance / Concentration: Eau de Toilette / Gender: for women „
I picked up this perfume from poundland! Thats right, poundland, for a measly pound! I got around 6 of the bottles, and they come in 3 "flavours", blue for exceed, red for skill and black for something else, can't exactly remember. Unfortunately the smell they have, to my mind at least, bears no similarity to the name. All i know is that my most favourite is the red, least favourite is the blue. Now I know the topic of this review is suppposed to be the exceed one, but i think it might be more useful review to give a low down of the 3 different bottles.
Ok, the blue one is my least favourite, and the one I wouldn't buy. it has a really weird smell, not particularly bad, but not very good either, a sort of weird smell. its hard to describe. Almost like air thats been trapped in a place for to long kind of smell. its very weird and I personally did not like it.
The white has a more standard smell. a sort of ethanolly style smell you would get with say an aftershave. It has a lingering smell, and lasts around 2-3 hours in my experience (can do longer, just 2-3 hours if your doing things that make you sweat a lot!). Its actually pretty good, to my nose at least, and I like the fact its in a small bottle, you can carry it on you.
And my favourite, the red, has a sort of sweet flavour. Like strawberries maybe??? Sorry I am not some sort of perfume connoisseur but i can tell you the red on is the best.
Each bottle is around 60ml in volume, and contains the perfume, and comes in a little black box. As i said i got mine for a mere pound, and figured i may as well buy the whole range, and a few extras, and try/give them out to friends. The small size makes them handy, so i have one at home, on at my work, one in my bag... locker... etc. Kinda handy really. And also as they are cheap, i dont care if they get broken/lost/robbed or whatever. Its kinda nifty, and i guess thats why umbro make them, so you can take them say football with you or whatever.
But they do not compare to more expensive smells, like Brut and so on, so i am going to give this perfume 4/5, due to its cheap cost, portable nature, and the red ones smell. if i was reviewing the blue one alone, as the titlle would suggest, I would give it 1 or 2 /10. But as I am going to review the range for you guys, I am going to give 4, as the red and black are quite nice.
I came across the Umbro elite x range when I received it as a birthday present one year from a friend. I tend to get given a lot of fragrance gifts, I hope they aren't trying to tell me anything. I guess its just an easy present to get for someone who is almost impossible to by for. I never realised that Umbro did fragrance products until I received the gift as I thought they just do sportswear.
When I ran out of my previous perfume I decided to use the Umbro spray. Before I put it on me I tried squirted it in the air to see what it smelt like. However, the only way I can describe what it smelt like was a gym changing room after a gruelling workout. After that experience I never used it again and I don't think I will consider even buying an Umbro fragrance product, however this is just my opinion and you might like the smell.
The Aroma- As I have already stated the only way that I can explain what the Umbro elite smells of is a gym changing room after a tough workout or even a changing room after a football match. I know Umbro do sportswear for football teams but I don't think a female would want to smell like a changing room.
The Packaging- The bottle is a simple 50ml, with a press lid just like any other perfume that you may use. It is a plain and simple design even the cardboard box it came in wasn't very appealing either. Even though it wasn't very expensive it wouldn't really catch the eye of buyers when in a shop.
The Price- As I had the product as a present I was unsure about the price. After looking into how much it was it varies between £2-£4 and are available from a numerous amount of shops. The price is extremely low which reflects the quality of the product in my opinion.
There aren't many advantages to the product except that it is very cheap and that the bottle is small another to fit in a handbag.
For me the smell of the product isn't as I would of expected and as it is the feature of the product it is a bit of a let down considering other Umbro products are of a high quality. The packaging is also very plain which also lets the product down.
I wouldn't consider purchasing this product again. The smell and the packaging were of extremely low quality. However, it can be handy to fit in your bag and is extremely cheap.
When it comes to toiletries I'm a real brand snob to be totally honest with you. Occasionally I do try something new, that I haven't heard of before but it is rare and that's especially true when it comes to fragrances. I own alot of bottles of very expensive stuff that I adore. However I am aware that I use far too much of the stuff. I'm the type of woman that as soon as I get out of the bath or shower I douse myself in perfume even if I'm just putting on my pj's which may be nice but I am alone and although I may smell lovely this is an expensive way of living! I run out of my perfumes all the time due to my flipping habits. So when I saw this for a quid in Poundland I thought what the heck. It isn't a fake rip off of anything it is Umbro (a name I have heard of) and I thought if nothing else I would wear this just for me and as part of my routine which is a habit lol!
Slightly different from the review photograph but it is definitely the same product. My box was the same colour blue with the white diamond at the top (the branding for Umbro) then it says Woman, Exceed, Eau De Toilette written on it. On the back ingredients were listed and contact details for Umbro were given.
The bottle is 50ml see through, oblong shaped, chunky glass with a silver push button sprayer situated at the top covered by an oblong blue plastic lid/top that pulls on/off simply. On the front in white writing again the white Umbro diamond is on there, under that I'm told it's Umbro, Girl Sport, 'Exceed', Eau De Toilette and the size is stated (as I've listed already). I can see the light blue liquid through the glass and it's ok packaging just not fancy or anything but rather plain to look at really.
Well it's ok and rather unusual really. Firstly it sprays out of the sprayer evenly and as a slightly wet mist though it doesn't saturate you or anything and the liquid is none sticky and of course loses it's colour on contact with the skin when applied (as you would expect it to of course).
Apply it wherever you want to and the smell is slightly reminiscent of after-shave to my nostrils and quite butch. It's quite unisex at first sniff and not at all feminine and/or girly. It isn't overly powerful in the smell stakes either, even when first applied and it's one of them that I can't smell during the application very much at all and need to sniff at when it's on my person. When it settles down on the skin it's a rather 'green' fragrance. I can't detect any fruity notes although it does have a slight sweetness to it and I feel like I can smell a sweet pea aroma to it. Within this there is no muskiness or vanilla to warm it up, it just feels a sporty type of fragrance.
Once on the skin as I have pointed out it isn't all that powerful smell wise so even if I spray on half a bottle after an hour the smell is eaten by skin though it does leave a really delicate hint on the skin but you have to be sniffed at hard to smell it.
All In All....
It's ok I just can't rave about it. it's a cheap perfume but it's not cheap in the blend. It's just cheap in it's weakness. It's ok to freshen up with and feel simply that you have made the effort and are sporting some type or aroma but for going out of an evening? This to me is a no no for all the above reasons. It's a day time spruce up product and for a quid I can't complain but it's not my favourite ever fragrance and is a bit masculine for me!
I have seen this for sale in pound shops, 99p shops, T.J.Hughes and places like that. If interested do look at online discount stores where I've seen it for £2-£4.
