The fragrance

ROCK N ROSE is Valentino's take of a 'fantasy rose', rather then a real rose fragrance. The perfumers say that they were "inspired by a new generation of young Valentino women....a Rose on the outside and a Rocker on the inside". So what do fantasy rockers smell like? My first thought was "It smells like Hubba Bubba bubblegum". Lightly fruity and quite sweet.


The floral notes are almost hidden under the currants and vanilla, leaving a faint powderiness. With the word 'rose' in the name of the perfume, I expected to be clearly able to smell roses; I had to really sit and concentrate on the individual scent notes to be able to separate the rose. The lily stands out the most and even that is very mild.

The vanilla and musk base doesn't excite me either. The vanilla seeps through to the top notes, prolonging the currants and making the fragrance even sweeter. I do like sweet scents but ROCK N ROSE brings nothing new to the table.

Bergamot, black currant, crunch green (apples?), orange blossom, gardenia, muguet, rose, sandalwood, orris, musky notes, vanilla, and heliotrope.

The bottle

The glass bottle is clear and rounded. The glass in the base is much thicker, weighting the bottle so it's sturdy and won't topple over.

The black cap is taller then the actual bottle and mine doesn't fit it securely.

Other buying considerations

The lasting power is neither very good nor very bad; It averages at 4/5 hours.

The fruits, mild florals and airy musk in the base mean that this is a perfect choice for spring/summer, whilst the fruits and vanilla provide enough soft sweetness for the fragrance to still appeal in autumn/winter.

ROCK N ROSE is best in the daytime; both casual use and work. I personally think that it's too quiet for nights out, but I suppose it depends on what you have planned.

I think this would make a great gift choice; It could be worn on women of all ages and the notes are mild enough to be inoffensive to almost everyone.

This fragrance is nice enough and I do like to wear it [Christmas present]. Plus, it's inoffensive to work colleges and friends - another plus.

But, however, it doesn't have that mysterious 'something' that would make me re-buy it and I always think of other perfumes that it reminds me of; It has elements of CanCan, Viva La Juicy and Ghost, amongst many others.
