A perfect gift for a female loved one, especially at Valentines Day.

I'm lucky enough to receive lots of nice things for birthdays and Christmas and this Valentina perfume was a very well received gift from my daughter on one such occasion a while ago.

Valentino is an Italian designer and as such delivers a rather desirable yet understated fragrance. It comes packaged in a variety of formats including both body products (shower gels, scrubs, oils, lotions and creams etc) to the all important perfume products, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum (that I own) and the EDP intense. Having a range of products such as this makes for a longer lasting perfume experience but I confess, I do not own anything else although I would dearly love to.

The EDP comes in a clear glass bottle through which you can see the delicate pastel pink perfume within. It is decorated with blossoms in graduating shades of colour. The silver hardware (containing the Valentino branding) gives the bottle a refined look, as I feel, like the designer I suppose, that gold would be too tacky. Prices vary immensely so please do shop around, although the EDP can generally be found at around the £40 mark for the 30 ml bottle. Yes it's expensive, but it's so worth it.

The fragrance can only be described citrusy, yet floral/oriental as it has distinctive florals with a touch of spice coming through. The top notes and what you would experience first off, is Calabrian bergamot and Alba Truffle. This might lead you to expecting an intensely citrussy scent but it's most definitely the floral aspect of the plant that I detect, the orange blossom coming to the fore. The heart notes consist of Amalfi orange blossom and wild strawberry so the citrusy theme carries through, with the strawberry providing a touch of sweetness that lingers longer. The base notes are cedar wood and amber and give the oriental undertones I am expecting upon wearing the fragrance for a while. Altogether, these notes give a delicious, sensual, warmth to the perfume and it develops into a beautiful romantic scent that delicately lingers, surrounding the area where you are and inviting questions about what perfume you are wearing.

I really like this Valentina EDP by Valentino. I think it's a really feminine perfume and would suit both the young, due to its uplifting floral fragrance, yet also the young at heart because it's not like a celebrity fragrance that hits you around the head, this is a romantic yet demure delight to the senses. Five out of five from me.

Thanks for reading my review. x

A beautiful bottle that is simple and unstated but which has fantastic affects

I love perfume and when I find one that I like I tend to stick to it, until I finally find something better and this perfume by Valentino was it for me. My boyfriend bought it for me as a christmas present which I was overjoyed about. Although I love perfume I am very picky with what I like to wear, it has to have a feminine scent but something that is slightly unusual about it and if that is what you are looking for then this is the perfume for you. Even the bottle just spells elegance. When first sprayed onto the skin, it takes a while for the perfume to fully release its sweet, feminine fragrance, however it is not a perfume that needs to be reapplied a 100 times through out the day, a few sprays will linger through out the day allowing you to smell fresh and elegant. The bottle isn't too chunky either which means that it is easy to carry around in your hand bag and it will not weigh you down. This perfume isn't your average girly perfume, its simple yet has a certain something that I can quite put my finger on, but i like it, and I like the fact that it is a perfume not everyone has heard of or is wearing, makes it unique, a diamond in the rough.

        Valentina EDP by Valentino

Being a bit of a beauty product addict, I always like to try out new things and vary the brands that I use. One of my most exciting discoveries in recent months has been finding online companies that provide beauty boxes. These usually contain various make-up, skin care, fragrance products etc, and I have been trying a few from different suppliers. I received a sample of this Valentina Eau de Parfum in my latest delivery from "Glossy Box". You can find further information at www.glossybox.co.uk, and after a quick look online, it seems that you can expect to pay around £30 for a 30ml bottle.

The full size perfume comes in a clear circular bottle decorated with 3D roses. I received a 1.5ml sample vial with a spray dispenser which came in a neat little cardboard slip case. This is a nice size to trial a perfume over several occasions before deciding if it suits you and then making a purchase of the full size. I have been using it quite regularly and the small size allows me to pop it into my handbag without weighing myself down. Sadly the small bottle is running out very quickly and I wish I had some more already!

Product description: "The exuberant freshness of Calabrian bergamot enhanced with white Alba truffle.
The irreverence of Amalfi orange blossom touched by wild strawberry.
The captivating sensuality of cedar and amber."

The scent isn't overly nice when first applying the perfume - it comes out a bit harsh and takes a short while to settle onto the skin. Given a few minutes it becomes much nicer and the first proper hints of the fragrance begin to emerge. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to posh perfumes, and I was really intrigued by the exotic sounding ingredients. I couldn't pick any out individually as they all seemed to blend together to give a lovely finished effect. Overall I would say that the perfume is soft and feminine but not in your usual way. This is luxurious down from the rich base notes, right up to the slightly powdery top notes that have a hint of sweetness. And I could not detect anything floral about it despite the rose decoration on the packaging. This is a nice change as I find there are far too many floral perfumes out there and I prefer something a bit different. I think this is a really pretty fragrance that emotes a romantic feeling. I remember hearing a quote along the lines of, "one should wear perfume where one wants to be kissed" and this is a perfume that certainly deserves that treatment.

There is only one area where I feel this perfume could be improved, and this is the strength of the fragrance. In my opinion it is a little on the weak side for an Eau de Parfum, and I usually end up applying quite a generous amount to achieve the level of fragrance that I like. It has reasonable staying power, although I do like to top it up in the day to keep the scent going. I'll spray some on first thing in the morning when I'm getting ready, at about 7 am, and then I'll be ready to re-apply after I've finished lunch between 1 - 2 pm.

I think that this is quite an easy, wearable perfume. It does not stand out a great deal as the scent is not strong enough to radiate and be picked up on by people nearby, but it is fine to wear through the day, I enjoy catching a whiff of it every now and again and as it's not overpowering it's acceptable to wear to work. However, this perfume really comes into its own on more special occasions. It's perfect for an intimate dinner date especially if there's a chance of being kissed at the end of it! This perfume gives such a womanly, romantic feel it is quite irresistible! I think this would be a lovely choice of gift if you want to buy a perfume for someone special, and I may well treat myself to it after my sample has run out.

I'm really glad that I received a sample of this perfume to try. If I had seen it in the shops I can safely say that I would have overlooked it based purely on the packaging, by making the assumption that it would be a rose based fragrance, and I am very fussy about rose floral scents. I was very pleasantly surprised and think that the combination of base, middle and top notes have been mixed to perfection. Overall this is a lovely, unusual fragrance that I can thoroughly recommend.
