When I got in from work tonight I was pleased to find an ASOS magazine on my doormat advertising ASOS.com's products. I am a regular shopper on their website so they must have me on some kind of mailing list! I flicked through the magazine quickly while I was making tea and then I left it face down on the kitchen bench and when I walked back into the kitchen I found the magazine face down as I'd left it, but I hadn't noticed the back page was a full page advert for Vera Wang Pink Princess! I was really excited. This is a 7th addition to the 'Princess' range and I didn't have a clue that it was coming out! I have raved enthusiastically in my previous reviews about the Princess fragrances that I have and I had even mentioned in my review for the original Princess fragrance that I didn't think that there would be any more additions to the collection! The advert did not have any information about the Pink Princess, but I read on www.fragrantica.com, where they know everything about perfume that it is available now in Boots and The Perfume Shop. By this point I'd had a drink with my tea so I had to make my other half drive me to Boots after tea to try the tester because waiting until tomorrow is just a ludicrous idea! It is really nice by the way! The Princess collection now consists of: 1) Vera Wang Princess was released in 2006. 2) Flower Princess was also released back in 2006 as a limited edition intended to be permanently available in Asia. This is the only one I don't have (yet) apart from Pink Princess. 3) Rock Princess was released a few years later in April 2009. 4) Glam Princess followed in December 2009. 5) Preppy Princess was released in 2010. 6) Princess Night, the fragrance that I am reviewing here (despite how much I've raved about number 7 - sorry I was excited), was released in January 2012. 7) Vera Wang Pink Princess (the new limited edition that I'm really excited for) which is new and out now in April 2013! ~ Bottle ~ I remember reading reviews here on Dooyoo before buying this fragrance, which said that the black glitter comes off the bottle which spoils the look, which I was disappointed about, but I decided I'd still buy it as I had most of the rest of the collection and I figured I'd look after my bottle as best as I could and just hope that the glitter didn't come off. I really like the bottle. It is a lovely heart shape, with sparkly black glitter on it. It reminds me of a party dress you would wear for a Christmas party. It is very pretty. The top of the bottle is the same as the other bottles in the Princess range. It is made up of two parts. There is the top of the crown, which is crown shaped with upside down cut out hearts in each point of the crown and small purple diamantes equally spaced around the bottom of the crown. The points of the crown are rounded slightly so there aren't lots of sharp points all over your dressing table to prick yourself on. There is also a ring, which is underneath the crown part of the lid and is completely separate. The ring is over half a centimetre thick and has very small, equally spaced purple diamantes going right round it. Obviously one size fits all so if you have very large or very small fingers the ring may not fit you. The crown and the ring are made from a silver coloured shiny metal. They both fit around the spray nozzle, but do not cover the top of the spray nozzle, so you can still press and spray the perfume with the lid on, but it would be very difficult to do this by accident. There is also a black thread around the neck of the bottle with a silver heart shaped piece of card with Vera Wang Princess Night in pink writing. I have kept mine on, but this is easy to remove if you don't like it. I like the design of the bottle and I think the ring is a clever idea. I am a bit of a sucker for these novelty sort of things. The design of the ring and crown is the same on all of the different Princess bottles, but there are different colour metals and jewels on each one encouraging you to collect them all. I think the bottle for Princess Night is really pretty. I do find the little flecks of glitter come off onto your hands, but I have been quite careful with my bottle so far and it hasn't damaged the appearance of the bottle. ~ Price and availability ~ Princess Night is available in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml bottles as an eau de toilette. I got mine from www.cheapsmells.com a few months ago, but it is not available at the minute. It is available at Debenhams where the 30ml bottle is £30.60 (RRP £34.00). The 50ml bottle is available at Debenhams for £40.50 (RRP £45.00). The 100ml bottle is available at Debenhams for £54.00 (RRP £60.00). I bought the 100ml bottle, which cost me just £39.75 so it may be worth waiting to see if cheapsmells.com restock this fragrance as it is a fair saving. ~ Scent ~ The fragrance is sweet and fruity with a lovely strong sparkling floral scent. There is also a creaminess to it. The top notes are wild berries, watermelon and raspberry. The heart notes are jasmine petals, spiced orange blossom and rose. The base notes are crushed sugar, vanilla and musk. I can definitely detect the rich fruitiness that the fragrance gets from the wild berries. The fragrance is initially really sweet, but the floral notes kick in quite quickly giving the fragrance real depth. I think it is the jasmine that I detect in the heart. It is sparkling, with an almost fizzy scent, but I don't mean this in a bad way. The vanilla in the base is very creamy and has a real presence. I have never heard of crushed sugar as a fragrance note before. This might contribute to the initial sweetness of the fragrance, but it is difficult to say. To me, it is more of a fruity sweetness. I love this fragrance. I'd say it is definitely strong and deep enough for night time wear. The florals give it a slight sharpness, but the sweetness helps to tone this down and it is inoffensive. The scent reminds me of nights out. The bottle design suggests that this fragrance is aimed at younger women, but I think the fragrance is suitable for older women as well. It is quite a deep scent so I can easily imagine a 50 something wearing this fragrance. I have found that it has rather impressive longevity for an eau de toilette and it lasts for around 12 hours on my skin. Although some of the other fragrances in the Princess range have really nice scents some of them have not impressed with how long they lasted. This one has lasted longer on my skin than any other fragrance in the range. ~ Conclusion ~ I think this fragrance is fantastic. It has a real presence to it and it is a really nice scent. It is my favourite of all of the Princess fragrances. The longevity has been very impressive, lasting on my skin for 12 hours, even though it is an eau de toilette. The bottle is really pretty and although some of the glitter does come off the bottle onto your hands this has not spoiled the effect of my bottle and I intend to continue to take care of it so that it will remain pretty until it is empty. I got this at a reasonable price, but I think the full price of £60.00 for 100ml is a bit on the pricey side for this fragrance, but I would buy another bottle if mine was to run out.
I have to say I'm not a huge consumer of perfume. I certainly don't wear it everyday and I tend to stick to my firm favourites (Kate Moss - Kate & SJP - Lovely, both previously reviewed). That said, it is something I like to receive as a gift because it is always exciting to try out a new fragrance, especially when you haven't had to pay for it! This perfume comes in a heart shaped bottle. The outside of the bottle is covered in a dark purpley/blue coloured glitter which are set onto the bottle with a strong glue. Though the idea for this design is very pretty personally I think it is inconvenient in a number of ways. Firstly it annoys me that I cannot see the contents of the bottle because it is so heavily adorned with glitter. You have to gauge how much you have left based on weight alone which can be tricky. The glitter does also come off occasionally which is also quite irritating both because it then gets everywhere and also because the bottle begins to looks a little shabby. I have also found that as the glitter begins to come off you get quite sharp shards of it on the edge of the bottle which makes it uncomfortable to hold when applying. The lid of the bottle is made from a silver coloured metal shaped like a crown and with little purple sparkly stones set into it. Overall I think the design is very pretty and girly but almost entirely impractical. The smell of the perfume does very much suit my style. It is both floral and a little fruity and can definitely be described as being very feminine and girly which is what I like. I do think it is best suited to a daytime scent because it is so light and flirty, which somewhat contradicts the design of the bottle and the name of it. That said, the fact that it doesn't match the branding doesn't really bother me as long as it is still a nice scent, which it is. I do think, however, that it isn't as classy and timeless as other scents I prefer to use. It doesn't have that ageless elegance that would keep me wearing it for years to come, it is quite a young scent which is fine while I'm 23 but won't be quite so good 20 years from now. The perfume is spiked with notes of jasmine, orange blossom and rose which make up a lovely fruity floral smell. There are top notes of berries, watermelon and raspberry as well as bottom notes of sugar, musk and vanilla. This does mean that while the scent has a lovely fruity floral scent initially that is very fresh and light when it mellows it does become a little sweeter and this can be a little insipid which isn't ideal. The perfume costs around £40 for a 50ml bottle which is definitely on the more expensive side of what I would hope to pay for a perfume. It does make it a rather generous gift, though I can't help but feel that two 100ml bottles of my favourite perfumes could have been bought for the price of this 50ml bottle. Overall, I think this is a fun and young perfume perfect for a gift for a close friend, daughter, niece, sister etc. I do think you have to pick the right person though because the bottle is probably most of what you are paying for and you really have to love the look of it to be able to ignore the downsides. Not the perfect perfume for me, but a lovely gift.
Those who know me, know that I love glitter. My bedroom is glittery so I was tempted by Princess Night by Vera Wang before I even had a whiff of it. It is supposed to be a mysterious scent for the glamorous and sparkly scent for the girl who comes alive after dark Packaging The fragrance comes contained within a heart shaped bottle similar to the original. It is decorated with loads of purple glittery particles which have been glued onto the bottle. The bottle does look pretty and it does sparkle although not as much as it probably could. Occasionally some of the glitter does come off the bottle especially if it's loose in your bag and it can start to look a little bit tatty. Some of the glitter can get a bit sharp if it sticks out too. The lid of the bottle is shaped like a silver metallic crown with purple jewels across it. Aroma The fragrance is described as being floral and fruity. It has floral heart notes of Jasmine Petals, Spicy Orange Blossom and Passion Rose. The top notes are fruity including Wild Berries, Watermelon and Sweet Raspberry. The bottom notes add a bit of body to the fragrance which is Crushed Sugar, Musk and scrummy Vanilla. Price The fragrance is definitely not the cheapest and I paid around £40 for 50ml of the perfume. The 100ml is available for around £60 and the fragrance can be bought from fragrance stores, department stores such as Boots and also from a range of online websites. My Experiences Plenty of the product is dispensed when you push down on the lid and it comes out in a fine mist so it won't get your skin overly wet as some perfumes can. The perfume is initially very strong when you first dispense it so you won't want to go over board with it. At first the smell is incredibly sweet and fruity with a slight creaminess to it. It is quite a youthful fragrance and while it isn't childlike, it isn't a particularly classy one. But then again it has been designed for a night out and this is what it suits best. After about ten minutes, a lot of the sweetness has died away to leave more of a musky vanilla scent which has a warmth and a bit of mystery to it but there is still a little bit of fruity sweetness to it. The fragrance is fairly long lasting and you don't get used to it in the sense that you can still smell it on yourself throughout the day. Other people will comment on it and most of the comments have been positive. It hasn't irritated my skin or caused me any discomfort. Conclusion All in all, this is a deliciously sweet and vanilla scent which is fun, mysterious and warm. It is perfect for a night out and it is long lasting, although it does change as you wear it so I would advise testing the product and then continuing to shop for a bit to see if you like what it turns into. The packaging is pretty, if a little impractical but all in all, I am happy with the fragrance.
~*~*~ Vera Wang Princess Night ~*~*~ ~ What is it? ~ Vera Wang Princess Night is an Eau de Toilette and it is the first Vera Wang fragrance I have ever owned. Like with most of the perfumes I own it was the bottle that first attracted me to this. It is made by the American fashion designer Vera Wang. ~ The Bottle ~ As mentioned above it was this - the bottle that initially caught my attention as with most of my other perfumes! I first saw this in Superdrug and without even knowing what it smelt like I knew I wanted it, I really loved the look of the bottle it just looked so cute and sparkly. I mentioned to my mum how nice it looked and surprise, surprise I ended up having it off my children for Mothers Day, my mum had bought it and gave it to them to give to me which I thought was incredibly nice of her seeing as my hubby bought me quite a bit too! I carefully opened the box (I keep all the boxes for my perfumes in the bottom drawer of my dressing table!) and inside was the gorgeous bottle. I was initially worried that the deep purple glitter would flake off but I my worries were uncalled for as the glitter finish has been fine, I do get the odd flake or two on my hand but there is no noticable patches missing on the bottle which highly pleases me. The bottle is a heart shaped glitter covered cute glitzy design and is topped with a silver crown that is dotted with purple gems. It is very pretty indeed. ~ The Price ~ I have checked online and found that this is available from many places online but I have just picked out a random few places to show the price. Superdrug - 30ml ~ £33.50 50ml ~ £44.50 Boots - 30ml ~ £34.00 50ml ~ £45.00 100ml ~ £60.00 www.amazon.co.uk - Prices range from £27.99 - £46.95 www.cheapsmells.com - 50ml ~ £31.29 I think the prices are fairly decent for a designer scent that comes in a beautiful bottle. ~ The Scent ~ The scent is as beautiful as the bottle it is presented in, it really is. The notes of the fragrance are ~ Top Notes ~ Watermelon, Raspberry, Red Berries. Middle Notes ~ Jasmine, African Orange Flower, Rose. Base Notes ~ Woodsy Notes, Musk, Vanilla, Sugar. As you may be able to tell from the notes in this scent it is a sweet juicy scent. I find it really dreamy, the way that the sugar and vanilla from the base notes mingle with the red berries and watermelon from the top notes with a hint of cirtus makes it a really delightful scent. The initial spray reminded me slightly of Katy Perry's Purr which I love anyway so I didn't mind this one bit but it had a stronger more expensive smell to it. I try not to wear this everyday as it's not a cheap perfume but I sometimes can't resist it, I spray it on in the morning and later in the evening I can still detect a soft vanilla scent. I really do love it! ~ Overall ~ As you may have noticed I am in love with this scent, it is really a beautiful scent. I love the sweetness of it, I don't get an initial fruity in your face scent it's all slightly mingled together and it makes it so dreamy and gorgeous. The bottle is amazing too and I am so glad the scent is as good as the bottle looks. Being covered in glitter it makes it a little difficult to see just how much of the perfume you have left but I have found that if I hold it up towards the light this allows me to see through the bottle. I am glad to say I have plenty left! This is another fragrance in my top three! Thanks for reading :o) x
