REASONS FOR PURCHASE
I'm a fan of Vera Wang Princess and wanted to try out another Vera Wang perfume. I thought this signature scent was as good a place to start as anywhere!
The classic shape of the bottle and the rave online reviews I'd read on various supplier websites sold me.
Taken from the John Lewis website:
"Vera Wang is renowned for her elegant wedding dresses which combine the classical and modern and Vera Wang for Women is an elegant and sensual fragrance inspired by the romance and passion of the wedding day.
It combines the scents of Bulgarian rose, calla lily, mandarin flower, gardenia, white stephanotis and sheer musks."
50ml of this Eau de Parfum will set you back £54 (the perfume's RRP). It is worth hunting around because this perfume can be found slightly cheaper else where. For example, on cheap-perfume.co.uk it can be ordered for £32.99 plus postage and packaging.
I was lucky enough to purchase the 50ml EDP, 200ml Body Creme and 4ml Parfum for under £30 on eBay. Because this perfume isn't overly well known, it is worth checking eBay. If you stick to a UK seller you are unlikely to end up with a fake.
The bottle has a square base that curves up to the lid in a pyramid-like shape. Made of clear, thick, smoothly cut glass, this is a bottle that looks and feels sophisticated.
The Vera Wang title is displayed simply on the front of the bottle and the perfume colour can be seen clearly through the glass in a beautiful amber hue.
There is a simple clear glass lid and the spray (in silver) is simple and easy to use (not too small, delicate or fiddely!).
What first comes to mind when I spray this perfume is that I've stepped in to a cloud of sweetness and flowers! Not sickly sweet flowers, this perfume is very elegant and sophisticated. I think it's the musk tones that tone down what could potentially be an overpowering scent.
It makes me think of sunset in a garden, somewhere warm and tropical (not that I have much experience of that!).
It's worth noting that this perfume, although an EDP, is not overly heavy. You don't need to worry about over spraying so much as you would with, say, a Theirry Mugler or Chanel EDP. I sprayed about 6 spritzes on me in total this morning, and no one was coughing or moving away from me on the train!
I guess what you could say is that Vera Wang Woman is a 'buildable scent'. Spray a couple of times for an 'almost there' hint of loveliness, or more for an unmissable (but again, still lovely!) aroma!
As I've read in other reviews, the sweetness of this perfume does die down a bit after an hour or so. What you're left with is actually even nicer than the initial application. I'm smelling this perfume on my wrist now (about 3 hours after applying) and I'm getting the warm musky tones more, but still the gorgeous floral blend that makes this perfume unique. From past experience, this scent will last for the rest of the day now and won't fade much more either.
If you can get your hands on a little bottle of the pure parfum, you'll obviously find that the scent stays much longer, as it does if you use the scent's body lotion or body creme too!
A great daytime to evening perfume for those of you who like a sophisticated, but still sweet and floral, unique scent. Apply more or less of this scent to match your mood or the occasion!
A bottle of Vera Wang Woman can be expensive, so remember to shop around (or put it on your birthday / Christmas list!).
Getting the Vera Wang fragrance was one of my Christmas highlights. I had spent the few weeks leading up to Christmas day sampling the array of fragrances in Boots whenever I was in town in order to make a choice for my Christmas present from the other half. I own a good collection of perfumes, but I still enjoy receiving more. In particular deep, rich scents that are evocative to the senses. In this respect the Vera Wang fragrance did not disappoint.
The bottle the perfume comes in reminds me of a beehive. It has four smooth sides that lead up to a heavy glass stopper, and the 'neck' if the bottle is comprised of chrome. The bottle is heavy too, and while it is not the most feminine I have ever seen, it is still satisfying to hold it and feel the quality in your fingertips.
Top notes: Bulgarian rose, calla lilly and mandarin flower
Middle notes: Gardenia, lotus, iris and stephanotis
Base notes: Sheer musk, white woods and precious floral nectar
Despite the floral notes the perfume promises, the nectar and musk are much more prominent on the whole. There is a mouth watering sweetness when the fragrance is first applied to the skin, but this subsides over the course of about half an hour to give way to a more intense scent. Having said that however, I was surprised by how little the aroma changes from first application to becoming 'set in'. In my experience some fragrances can alter to the poit of becoming unrecognisable, but this is not the case with Vera Wang, and this is a very good thing.
To me some other detectable notes within the blend are honey, amber and sandalwood. The fact that the perfume itself is a rich honey-coloured liquid perhaps only serves to emphasise this.
In terms of staying power Vera Wang woman is not bad. I often have problems finding fragrances that last on the skin, but so far I have discovered the scent will linger for up to about six hours without me needing to reapply it. On long days I can see I may have to purchase a travel-size bottle in order to 'top up' the scent on my skin, but for now I am pleased with it in this respect.
A 50ml bottle of the perfume costs around £45, but this is a product that oozes quality and sophistication. I am looking forward to using this perfume more, and will be investigating other fragrances in the rage based on the quality of this. Highly recommended.
Vera Wang for Women Eau de Parfum
The name Vera Wang is well known and well associated with weddings, in particular wedding dresses, which combine classical, modern and stunningly expensive designs. There was no way I could afford a Vera Wang original wedding dress (although I was lucky enough to get a beautiful dress despite this) so when I found out that she had a line of perfume I decided to treat myself to one of her beautiful fragrances for my wedding day. I went for her lovely classic (or should be classic) Vera Wang for women, eau de parfum.
This is one of the nicest perfumes I have ever tried. It is a floral scent but it isn't overwhelmingly so, the musky undertones really give this a warm depth. I always struggle to get the right words when describing a fragrance but this one is feminine, sweet but not cloying, and smells lovely floral but more of a musky floral. It really is a beautiful scent, for those that are interested the notes as I have been able to find them are...
The top notes; Bulgarian rose, calla lily and mandarin flower.
The middle or heart notes; gardenia, lotus, iris and white stephanotis
The base notes; sheer musk, white woods and floral nectar.
This is one of the better perfumes I own in regards to longevity, when I spray this on in the morning I can still detect hints of this when I go to bed at night. Of course it is best to re-spray and get a nice refresh of the fragrance but it does wear well.
There is also a crème and body lotion available, which is great for getting a layering up of fragrance to make the scent last even longer. I don't own many of the body lotion's that match the perfumes but it is always nice to have the option. A tip that my Gran gave me years ago is to spray a tiny drop of perfume in some unscented moisturiser and that will work as a fragranced body lotion too.
The bottle is simple but instead of being plain it manages to retain an elegance, I did read online somewhere that the shape is meant to representative of a wedding dress.
This is an expensive perfume, a 50ml bottle (if bought in store and not found cheaper online) will cost you £52, or a 100ml bottle will cost you £72.
--My overall opinion--
I love this perfume so much that it gets a five out of five from me and it deserves every star. I did consider knocking one star off because of the very pricey price tag but I just couldn't do it. It really is a lovely perfume and although I bought it for my special day, I love wearing it every day. This is a lovely scent that smells wonderfully feminine without being what I would describe as 'girlie'. I would recommend giving this a test next time you are out shopping, if nothing else you will smell wonderful for the rest of the day.
Are you looking for an alternative to Chanel No5 or a wedding fragrance? If so this is the fragrance for you!
When I worked in perfume, this was always the fragrance we'd show people if they had previously used Chanel No5 and they always loved it!
Why is it considered a wedding fragrance? Well Vera Wang designs wedding dresses and it seems she was inspired to produce such a feminine, timeless, romantic and floral wedding fragrance, it is not overpowering, but it is subtle and long lasting. The shape of the bottle is supposed to symbolise the bottom of a wedding dress as it comes out from the hips and falls on the ground. I had one lady approach me 6 months ago when I was working and she asked where she could find this fragrance, I showed her where it was and asked her if she was looking for a wedding fragrance. She told me that it had just been one of her friend's weddings and she could smell this subtle and beautiful fragrance on her friend all day and she had to have some (but she had to keep it a secret from her friend....now that is absolute love for a fragrance!)
And to top off how great this fragrance is, it also comes with a wide range of body products (more than most perfumes do): a sparkling body powder, shower gel, body lotion, body cream, pure perfume and Eau de Parfum in two sizes:
50ml = £52.00
100ml = £72.00
This perfume contains rose, lily, gardenia, iris, mandarin flower and musk.
***Would I recommend this fragrance?***
If like I said before you love Chanel perfumes, or have your special wedding day on the horizon or even if you just fall in love with the fragrance like me there isn't a fragrance I could recommend more for you! It is a pricier perfume than many others that are out there on the market, but it is well worth it! Once you fall in love with this fragrance, you'll never change it!
I was lucky enough to receive a bottle of this perfume for Christmas as it is quite expensive. I have the 30ml eau de parfum size which has a recommended retail price of £38, but I have seen it for much less on the internet. It comes in larger 50ml and 100ml sizes too and is also available as a body lotion, body cream, body powder, hand cream and pure 15ml parfum.
The perfume itself is a golden orange colour and comes in a very distinctive pyramid shaped glass bottle. It is very elegant. The scent is quite strong so you only need a few squirts. I find the scent lasts most of the day. As it's quite strong, is quite expensive and I love it so much I tend to just wear mine on evenings out and for special occasions. After all each drop is precious!
I love the smell of it which i would describe as quite floral. It has top notes of bulgarian rose, calla lilly and mandarin flower; heart notes of gardenia, lotus, iris and stephanotis and base notes of sheer musks, white woods and precious floral nectar. Obviously I can't make all these individual scents out but I can confirm they combine together to give a gorgeous fragrance.
I would advise anyone who is looking to spoil themselves or purchase a very special fragrance for a loved one to buy this one. I've had so many compliments about it. Do look around the internet first though to try and get it for a competitive price.
The original Vera Wang fragrance....... for Women.
This is a gorgeous exquisite fragrance, which is now available to purchase in many high street stores and online also. Prices starting from as little as £39.00 for 30ml. (this is available at www.theperfumeshop.com) Body Lotion, Body Cream and Shower Cream are also available in this fragrance range. The whole range is available from many department stores including some Boots, Debenhams, John Lewis, Harrods, Selfridges. The scent itself is flirty, seductive and yet appealing to all age ranges. There are floral undertones - but this is not overpowering. As with all Vera Wang scents this is a perfume that lasts for hours once you have sprayed it. The bottle is easy to hold and stands flat on any surface.
I love ALL of Vera Wang's fragrances for Women and this is no exception. This was the first Vera Wang perfume that I purchased and it was in a gift set with the body cream - which is so moisturising and soft. It is possible to wear the body cream without any perfume as the perfume oils within it are so powerful - this is also cheaper than the Perfume itself if you were to purchase seperately!
If you are to buy any Vera Wang Fragrances I would certainly recommend that you purchase from a retailer where they have a seperate Vera Wang Counter - for example Debenhams, Selfridges, John Lewis, Browns, House of Fraser, as the staff are always very helpful and often provide a range of samples for you to try. This is a lovely treat if you are looking to purchase the rest of the range at a later date, you can try out the samples to see which item to invest in next!!
I would recommend Vera Wang Women as a 'Wedding Fragrance' also - as this can be coupled with the Vera Wang Men (which is equally as attractive scent).
