Versace is a well know designer brand which made a number of 'Jeans' perfumes in the 90s. I was unfortunate enough to buy Yellow Jeans. The tin this perfume comes in is very appealing and the bottle is also attractive with the Versace emblem embossed in the glass. The cheap plastic stopper is somewhat of a letdown. This has to be the worst perfume I have ever owned. It was on special offer all boxed up so I hadn't had a smell before I bought it and I regretted it straight away. I also knew why it was on special offer! The scent is very floral with a bit of musk (which is quite overpowering) and the name is such because of the yellow flowers included in it. It isn't particularly strong other than the muskiness which is good and I would suggest it is more of a daytime fragrance and recommended for everyday use. I bought this perfume for £15 which was very cheap for a designer perfume but I wish I hadn't bothered. It really isn't me (although someone else may love it). I was sold on the packaging and not the scent from which I have really learnt my lesson. You can still buy this perfume today although it seems to be appearing less and less in highstreet stores. It retails now at around £15, the same price as I purchased at. Overall this isn't a perfume I would recommend and I wouldn't be happy to recieve it for my birthday or Christmas. Versace should stick to their clothing line.
Launched: 1996 Group: Floral green :: Introduction :: I came across a short review about Versace Yellow Jeans Eau de Parfume a now discontinued edition of the series Versace first launched with the still in production Red Jeans Eau de Parfum for ladies and Blue Jeans Eau de Toilette for men in 1994. As a collector of rare perfume bottles and fragrances I bought a 75ml full unopened bottle on eBay to add to my collection. :: The packaging :: The packaging is a very attractive, unusual cylindrical yellow tin can, I think Versace started a trend with this. The cylindrical glass bottle is reminiscent of those mini Schweppes bottles and the lid looks like a champagne cork. The bottle is also nicely embossed with Versace's round lion logo, a real collector's gem. :: The fragrance :: Top notes: violet, peach, bergamot, mandarin The first notes I feel are fresh and light citrus with a dollop of sweet honey and bittersweet greens. The violet note is detetable after a few minutes and soon the fragrance becomes powdery floral and vegetal the violet being the main influence. The overall feeling is light but quite on the floral side which makes Yellow Jeans soft and dreamy in character. Middle notes: tea, jasmine, rose An hour or so later the scene changes and surprisingly I'm greeted with subtler accords than initially. There's a certain aquatic feel now that's replaced the powder violet and given way to a clean, white tea scent with a green hint of rose. This only lasts an hour though when the jasmine comes into full swing. Soapy and powdery again, it makes you feel like you just had a shower with some luxury floral soap with hints of citrusy bergamot. Base notes: vanilla, sandalwood, musk and cedar When the fragrance finally settled down after a good 4 - 5 hours, it felt cosy and warm, a had a kind of mellow yet fresh woody feel. Another half hour and it dried into a soft, creamy scent, where cedarwood and musk were the most dominant ones. Though it didn't have much sillage left, I could still feel the delicate yet persistent flowery freshness with sweet cedar and musk lingering in the background. :: Conclusion :: I'm a fruity - gourmand kind of girl when it comes to perfumes and only tend to wear Yellow Jeans when I'm in an especially floral - cocoon-y mood. The composition may feel dated now with the trends changing a lot since the nineties. However, if you like a young-at-heart, soft and predominantly floral scent that does make a statement in its own way I recommend you trying it. Spray once on each wrist, it will last for a whole day. Overall, a romantic and soft floral fragrance, definitely recommended! :: Additional Rating :: Originality: 5 / 5 Composition: 5 / 5 Staying power: 5 / 5 Value for money: 5 / 5 :: Price / where to buy :: Unfortunately this beautiful scent is now discontinued but still sold online or in town at perfumer discounters, there's such a shop I know of in Ealing Broadway, London. Thanks for reading. ©powered by lillybee also posted on Ciao UK
You could be forgiven for wanting to stay away from Versace - look at Donatella! Her bright orange face, white blonde hair and her penchant for swimming topless in just a thong is the stuff of nightmares. You needn't worry though, as the Versace Jeans range of perfumes were created by her late older brother, Gianni. If you didn't know, Versace is an Italian fashion house. Their creations have been worn by Christina Aguilera (she has been a model for them as well), Liv Tyler, Kim Cattrall, Jennifer Lopez, and strangely enough, Camilla Parker Bowles! Gianni Versace began working in his mum's clothes shop, and moved onto working for other Italian designers, before opening his own boutique and expanding worldwide. He was shot in 1997, and his younger sister Donatella took over as the head designer, with their brother Santo being the chairman of the company. In 1996, he brought out Versace Yellow Jeans. Also in the range are White, Red, Pink, Blue and Black, the last two being for men. I have tried a few from the range and Yellow is definitely my favourite! The Versace website describes Yellow Jeans as a 'refreshing, flowery fragrance'. According to them, the scent is a blend of mimosa, white peach, yellow flowers and a hint of musk, and is most suited for office wear. Mimosa, white peach - you would expect the scent to be very clean and refreshing, wouldn't you? I don't even know what mimosa is but it gives the impression of clean, white flowers to me! The scent is very, very strong when you first apply it - it is really heavy and overpowering. The spray is good quality though, and the perfume comes out in a fine mist that dries quickly without dribbling all over the place! When you first spray it, it smells very sweet and quite spicy as well - not really a good combination! Give it a few minutes to settle down though, and you'll be pleasantly surprised. It smells quite warm and floral - I do like cle an, fresh smells but this is very feminine and sweet. You can pick out the musk but all the other smells blend together and it's a very warm, sweet smell with a hint of spiciness to it. It's surprisingly strong for an eau de toilette though! It's more like an eau de parfum really. Three squirts on each wrist and the neck lasts me all day and is noticable even now, almost nine hours after I've put some on. Don't be put off if you try it and it smells far too strong - it does settle down very quickly, so give it a chance - although the basic smell does not change slightly like some other perfumes do. It definitely isn't for everyone though - you either love it or you hate it. I love it! It is quite a unique smell and although it's strong when you first apply it, it calms down and is quite subtle. It's one of those perfumes where people get a waft of it when you walk past but isn't really in your face. Again, it's not going to suit everyone but I think it matches my personality quite well and suits me. It's suitable for any occasion but you may prefer something stronger for night time. I wear it every day and it really does give you a lift! If you're feeling a bit moany or unhappy, a quick spray perks you up no end. In winter, the coldness makes the fragrance seem warm and inviting, and the heat in summer brings out the floral and sweetness of it, so you can wear it all day, every day if you reallly want. I think I'll be sticking with this for a while - it suits any mood and I can wear it every day without getting bored (for now)! The only thing that lets it down is the bottle - it has ugly embossed lions and a cheap-looking plastic lid. Don't let that put you off though! It's a great perfume and is really cheap - prices start from 20GBP for 75ml! Most branded perfumes are around the same price for 30ml so you're definitely getting a bargain. If you like CK Cont radiction or Nina Ricci L'Air Du Temps, I reckon you'd like this as well. Maybe not if you prefer really clean, refreshing perfumes like CK One and Lancome Miracle, but I like those two as well - you'll have to give it a sniff and decide for yourself!
