Advantages: nice fragrance, good design, reasonable price

Disadvantages: you may not like it!

Being an Avon fan, I have tried several types of their perfume over the past few months – Rare Emeralds, Prowl, Little Black Dress and more. None of them were exactly what I was looking for and I began to despair of ever finding a scent that was really me.

Then I ordered a Women of Earth moisturising body mousse, when it was on offer in one of the Avon brochures. When I applied it to my arms, I realised the scent was gorgeous, but I had problems finding the perfume in this fragrance as it seemed that Avon had stopped doing this one.

I ended up contacting Louise (Wulise) about this, as she sells Avon and is a good friend of mine. She sent me a small sample of the perfume in the post, so I could check I liked it, before shelling out for a large bottle. I was very pleased with it, so wanted to purchase the 50ml version.

Then my next Avon brochure arrived and it was in there again, retailing at £10 for 50ml, which is about the same as most other Avon perfumes. So I placed my order and then it arrived.

The box is black on the outside with a design of pink and green flowers – much more tasteful than it sounds! The top and bottom of the box are light green. The logo is quite nice, but nothing stunning. I also like the name, I quite fancy being a wearer of Women of Earth, it has a nice ring to it!

The bottle is clear glass, rather a strange angular design with a silver screw top that looks a bit like a Roman helmet in shape. It has a little silver medal round its neck with the Women of Earth logo on it.

But of course, the most important part of a perfume is how it smells. Since I have began working as a School Meals Supervisory Assistant (dinner lady!), I am very conscious of how I look and the way I smell, because kids are brutally honest and I would soon be told if I stank!! So besides the usual washing, I like to add this scent as well.

It smells quite sweet, musky, flowery and exotic. It
is quite a heavy perfume, not a light or fruity one. I would say it was best suited to women around 20-40 years old. It is okay for either casual or evening occasions, I have worn it for both work and socialising.

I have had no allergic reactions to this perfume, it is very gentle on the skin. It can be a bit strong if you spray too much on, so take it easy. The smell soon becomes more subtle though over time, although you can still smell it for several hours afterwards.

It is very good value as a bottle will last for months. I have used mine almost every day and hardly any of it has gone.

Of course, liking a particular perfume is a very personal thing, it all depends on individual taste which is why it’s a good idea to get a sample or tester first. I am very happy with this perfume and intend to continue wearing it. The moisturising body mousse is lovely too.

UPDATE - In the latest Avon brochure (6/2002) the perfume is available, being described as 'soulful floriental'.
