~A classic scent from Woods of Windsor~
Amongst the product range that Woods of Windsor offer is the lovely fresh and green scented Lily of the Valley fragrance that gives of a fresh, light and easy to wear fragrance suitable for day wear in both spring and summer time. When wanting to review my old favorites from the Woods of Windsor fragrance range they were not listed here on Dooyoo, so a product suggestion was made to enable me to share my thoughts about them. As the Lily of the Valley fragrance has now been added to the database it gives me a chance to tell you why this light and fresh scent is such a pleasing fragrance to wear.
I have worn the Lily of the Valley fragrance alone or layered with a number of other coordinating products from the range offered and I am able to say that wearing the lovely Lily of the Valley fragrance alongside those products does work rather well and can extend the life of the fragrance on the skin a little more. I particularly like the body dusting powder that I used to buy to go with the fragrance, as it has a sweet yet green powdery softness about it that blends in so well with the fragrance itself. The other body products within the range are also very nice to use as they leave your skin feeling softly scented and cared for yet are not too pricey to buy.
~The essential elements~
According to Woods of Windsor the Lily of the Valley fragrance combines 'the delicate scent of lily of the valley with dewy green leaves, geranium oil and a hint of citrus' which I feel is a perfect way to describe the lovely fresh green scent the fragrance gives off when you wear it. Woods of Windsor go on to say that the fragrance has an 'elegant simplicity perfectly capturing the fragile beauty of the delicate white lily flowers' which once again I do feel is a fair description of the benefits of the scent given off from the fragrance, as it evokes a lovely fresh and uncluttered feel when worn, that is never too much if applied lightly to the skin.
The invigorating top notes ~ Orange and lemon oils, followed by white lily and mimosa leaf
The enticingly fresh floral mid notes ~ Lily of the valley, may blossom and geranium oil
The strength giving base notes ~ Sandalwood, amber and soft musk
~My opinion of the fragrance~
When I wore the Lily of the Valley fragrance on a regular basis I was almost addicted to it and I loved everything about the lightly fresh floral scent that was given off from the blend of ingredients used in the fragrance. I feel that the fragrance was so very pretty and easy to wear, as it settled down nicely on my skin after the initial fresh citrusy feel subsided into a warmer toned yet still green feeling amber and musk based fragrance. Once the fragrance dries down on the skin skin the lovely springtime feel that the fragrance gives off is very pleasing and this Lily of the Valley themed scent feels very well put together. I feel the scent given off is never too heavy or cloying and when I wore the fragrance regularly I felt it set just the right balance between the fresh green side and the sweeter floral side.
The Lily of the Valley used in the fragrance has a nice fresh springtime tone to it that is strong enough to let you know what it is without it ever being too much for the senses. With some Lily of the Valley based fragrances the balance can be set too wide of the mark and the effect can be spoiled by an overly synthetic feel. As the ingredients within the Woods of Windsor Lily of the Valley fragrance use real premium grade fragrance oils, I feel this does shine through as the overall effect is a more elegant and delicate one. The use of the orange and lemon oils within the scent do manage to give it a fresh opening boost that invigorates the senses and as the fragrance softens on the skin the greener feel it gives stays well balanced as the other florals kick in and lend a hand.
When worn as a day wear fragrance I feel this is any easy to wear and enjoy blend, that will suit all manner of occasions. The fragrance will suit those who like this type of fresh green spring time scent and I feel that it will not disappoint if worn as a stand alone fragrance or as part of a fuller layered fragranced effect. I have found that the fragrance when worn on its own seems strong enough to be able to stay put for a good number of hours before it fades softly away and this has to be due to the well rounded fragrance base notes of amber, musk and sandalwood. The scent does change on the skin over time yet the over all theme of the fragrance remains as good with a generous wear time of at least 5 to 6 hours.
The presentation of the fragrance has changed over time and it now has a much more modern and sleek look than it had in the past. I feel the older more chintzy presentation was something that dated the fragrance and would have put off younger fragrance buyers, although I didn't mind it too much as I knew the fragrance within was rather nice. For those who have never sampled the fragrance as it was as they found the old look dated, this newer toned down look will perhaps make the fragrance appear as a more modern and attractive looking product that suits the needs of todays modern woman.
The shape of the fragrance bottle with its see through clear glass is minimal and understated although I do feel it has a slightly top heavy feel that means the bottle can be more easily knocked over than the older more rectangular shaped bottle could. The silver toned lid that sits on top of the bottle encloses the spray applicator safely and securely and it seems to stay in place well enough when in situ. The spray applicator is easy to use and requires just a light touch to give the right amount of fragrance which can be directed where needed. The box which protects the bottle well enough when in transit, shows Lily of the Valley flowers on a simple background and I feel this looks fresh and modern whilst showing what the fragrance is all about.
The price of the fragrance sits at around £15.95 for a large sized 100ml bottle of fragrance and I feel this is very good value for this amount of product. I used to purchase my Woods of Windsor products from a factory shop that reduced the range of products by up to 30% and as far as I am aware this reduction is standard at these types of outlets should you have one close to hand. It would certainly be worth checking prices at such outlets if you can.
The other products within the range that I have tried include:
Body dusting powder @ £8.95, bath/ shower gel @ £8.25 for 250mls, moisturising body lotion @ £8.50 for 250mls, hand and nail cream @ £7.25 for 125mls and 3 x 100g soaps for £9.50. I liked all the products I used from the range as they worked well with the actual fragrance, although the body dusting powder was a favorite amongst those as both the product and presentation are extremely good
As I used to wear this fragrance on a daily basis at one time I feel I know it very well. I liked the way that that the mix of ingredients worked on my skin to give a long lasting fresh green floral scent that I enjoyed and I would certainly buy the fragrance again in future as it is a scent that I still feel works well. The price of the fragrance is very reasonable when you consider how much of it you get for your money and as such I feel that the fragrance is fully deserving of a 4 star product rating.
