I couldn't believe how much this perfume reminded me of the Robinsons Blackcurrent flavour fruit juice, it was like something i've never smelled before so i had to buy it! The bottle that the perfume comes in looks like a pink diamond which i love and i also love the Babydoll name, it's so cute and feminine. This perfume ticks all the right boxes for me.
The main scent that this fragrance has is that of Grapefruit, which is probably why it reminds me of fruit juice! It also has a blend of cedarwood, ginger and roses. What a lovely mix! I only ever need to spray a small amount of this perfume on me and the scent lasts all day and can also be smelled by others. I would reccomend this perfume to a lady of any age to wear on any occasion. It is probably more for a girly girl. For YSL it is so affordable too and depending on what size bottle you want the prices range from around £20 - £35.
I believe a 30ml bottle is around £20 and the 100ml bottle is around £35, girls give this one a try!
I first started using Baby Doll about five years ago after sneaking a cheeky spritz or two from my sister's bottle when she wasn't looking (well, it was way too expensive for me back then!). I still wear this fragrance to date, however, I now have my own bottle which is handy seeing as my sister has moved out now! I really love this fragrance, it is delicously sweet, floral and very 'girly'.
A BIT ABOUT THE BRAND
Yves Saint Laurent was born in Algeria in 1936, he went on to become one of the greatest French fashion designers of the 20th century. He began his career with Christian Dior, later becoming the Head Designer at the age of 21. During the 1960s, Yves Saint Laurent began his own brand, which is still going strong. Along with the Yves Saint Laurent label, is the very popular cosmetic and fragrance range.
Yves Saint Laurent describes Baby Doll as "The lucky charm of a mischievous, light-hearted young woman who dares to express her desires and changing moods". This perfectly describes the mood of Baby Doll, it fills you with positivity and an uplifting attitude, that leaves you ready to take on anything.
The scent itself is "A fruity floral harmony. A bold, fresh and deliciously sensualist trail". Sounds good enough to eat!
A delicious fruity blend of Gooseberry, Grapefruit and Rhubarb
Delicate floral notes of Wild Rose and Freesia, folowed playfully by Cinnamon, Ginger and Cardamom
Finished off with the sensual Grenadine, Peach and Cedar wood
This is such a gorgous blend, beautiful sunny sweetness delightfully toned down by the delicate floral notes. This means that the scent is very distinctive without being overpowering or 'sickly' sweet.
I really love the bottle for Baby Doll. It is designed to represent a spinning top, the top is quite wide and narrows down to the base of the tip. The bottle is made from clear glass to reveal the bright 'pinky' perfume within. The glass of the bottle is dimpled in order to catch to light, which gives a lovely 'sparkling' effect. The top of the bottle is a spherical gold, dimpled cap which sits upon a black ring, this is the base for the spritzer.
The only downside to the bottle is that it doesn't stand up, but it does look nice and different to other perfume bottles whilst sitting on a tilt.
I really enjoy wearing this fragrance, I say 'enjoy' as it really puts you in a bright, happy mood. Baby Doll is a fun, mischevious, sunny scent and very, very girly.
Some may find the scent a tad too sweet, but I find it suits my skin very well. It is quite sweet as it goes on, but after about an hour it really mellows down into a delicate and soft floral, fruity scent.
I would say that Baby Doll is more of a Spring/Summer fragrance, I find it a bit too sunny and fruity for Winter. I normally wear this during the day and sometimes for a night out, depending on your individual taste, although it is more of a daytime fragrance.
PRICE AND AVALIABILITY
Baby Doll is avaliable at most fragrance and department stores, such as Debenhams. It is also worth looking at online stockists like Amazon, Click Fragrance and Supaperfume. These stores will usually offer scents at a discounted price.
Baby Doll comes in three different sized bottles and a silky body lotion:
30ml Eau De Toilette RRP £31.00
50ml Eau De Toilette RRP £44.00
100ml Eau De Toilette RRP £63.00
200ml Body Lotion RRP £24.00
Baby Doll is such a happy little fragrance, full of fun and character. It has really great staying power, I can always still smell it on me by the end of the day! This is one of my classic, all time favourites, I would definatley recommend it!
Yves Saint Laurent's Baby Doll perfume is a slightly younger version of their Paris scent. As with most leading perfumeries, this perfume does have the staying power to last all day or night. Personally, I like to wear it in the day as it is a very fruity scent - mainly grapefruit smelling and quite sweet. I like to wear Angel in the evening so if you are a fan of Angel, you would most likely find Baby Doll a great eau de toilette too. It comes in bottles from 30ml - 100ml and is quite reasonable priced for YSL - a little goes a long way and unlike Angel, you can't really overdo it as it is very fresh smelling whereas some perfumes can get a bit overpowering with too much spritzing. I find that Baby Doll is quite hard to find and worried a while back that it was discontinued but thanks to the internet, I am still able to get this.
A beautiful distinctive fragrance from YSL. This perfume has lovely heady fruit notes and is sweet.
Notes: Grapefruit, sweet tones of jasmine and vanilla. The main impression is of a sweet grapefruit that does not change notably with the drydown.
Application: best used sparingly as the sweet grapefruit is very strong. You are likely to hear compliments if you put on more than two puffs, but it gets overwhelming very quickly. Definitely one for the evenings.
Bottle: Distinctive design. However does not stand on its own and the applicator can be a little flimsy and break apart with use.
Conclusion: beautiful distinctive perfume, utterly unmistakable in its scent and likely to appeal to younger girls out to make an impression. However, this is not a perfume to blend into the background and is best avoided if you are looking for something subtle for work. It's bold, fruity, however its sweet notes throughout make it less sophisticated than it could have been. One of my favorite perfumes in late teens/early twenties.
I always love Uves Saint Laurent perfumes and this perfume is no different. I absolutely love like this perfume!
The bottle is not a regular shape for a perfume bottle but nevertheless is very well designed. As this perfume is very feminine the packaging echoes this. The bottle itself with the perfume in appears pink witha chunky goldd swivel top and gold writing on the bottle itself. The bottle can't be really placed upright on a table as it is irregularly shaped yet it still is designed and packaged well really pretty looking with a gold top.
This perfume is very feminine and is perfect to wear in the day as it does not have a strong scent like chanel etc ( evening perfumes.) This scent is very fruity and light and is quite refreshing. On a usually 9-5 day at work this perfume will usually last a couple of hours. I love the scent of this perfume as it is not floral based, and gives a refreshing scent.
I absolutely would recommend this perfume to girls of every age who want to feel refreshed during the dya. I would not really reccommend this perfume to wear in the evening as i feel the scent is slightly to light. I use this perfume very quick and a bottle for me can disappear. This perfume is a mid-priced perfume and i would definately reccommend this perfume over similar perfumes in this price range.
*-- BABY DOLL --*
-- By Yves Saint Laurent --
I love all perfumes and Eau de Toilette by Yves Saint Laurent. Each one has its unique fragrance and I love the bottles that the perfume is contained in. Apart from the Opium which is a very heavy scent I have owned nearly all of their fragrances over time. Yves Saint Laurent is a French Fashion House who produce perfumes and a brilliant make-up range also.-
Baby Doll is a delightful fragrance aimed at the young end of the market. Baby Doll comes in a square shocking pink box, which houses the sweet, round, squat faceted bottle which is pointed to the base. Looking a little like a spinning top in appearance. Through the clear glass bottle you can see the sparkling pale pink Baby Doll perfume. The bottle has the same dimpled appearance that the Paris perfume has and it is a very similar bottle indeed, with a similar dimpled gold and glass cap. To the front of the bottle you have Baby Doll written in gold lettering.
---BABY DOLL - THE SIZES---
BABY DOLL is available in sizes 30 ml- 50ml- 100 ml- and prices start from about £20.00 for the smallest size of the Eau de Toilette. Yves Saint Laurent also do a sweet limited edition Pom-Pom collectors 50ml/1.6oz bottle which has pink and red different size fluffy pom-poms hanging from the neck of the bottle, which you will be able to purchase on-line quite easily.
---BABY DOLL - THE FRAGRANCE---
The scent of Baby Doll is a lively, sexy, girly fragrance. It is very sweet and spicy. Perfect for summer I would have thought a nice daytime perfume for any occasion. It is possibly a little too sweet for me, but nonetheless a very pretty perfume with a grapefruit and rose scent which is at first quite predominant. I wear Baby Doll from time to time when the mood is right. I have a huge selection of perfumes, a lot of them gifts from my three beauties (My three daughters) and also my husband. So I am very lucky in that respect and I never get a chance to run out of them. What with 'Mothers Day', my Birthday and Christmas I have a nice big stock pile building up. I also collect perfume bottles and I have a great collection. I just think they are so pretty and I can't bring myself to throw the bottle away after the perfume has finished. Hence my ever growing perfume bottle collection.
The top notes to Baby Doll are Grapefruit- Rhubarb- Redcurrant.
---The Middle Notes---
The middle notes are Wild Rose- Freesia- Spices.
---The Base Notes---
The base notes are Peach- Grenadine- Cedarwood.
Baby Doll is a lovely scent. It's pretty and girly but it also has spicy fruitiness to it. The staying power of Baby Doll is very good and like Paris by Yves Saint Laurent the scent stays strong on the skin all day long. It comes in a very sweet bottle which would look lovely on the dressing table. Also the smaller sizes are perfect for the handbag for when you are on the go. I like to keep a perfume on me for freshening up when I am out and about. Baby Doll is known as a 'Love Potion' well I don't know about that, but it is a very lovely mixture of fragrances which are perfect as a light and interesting summer scent. -
Thank you for reading
I'm a 17 year old girl, this is my newest fragrance and I'm in love with it. I can wear it every day because it's light and pretty.
First of all, the diamond-look of the bottle with a golden lid is special, luxury and lovely.
As to the perfume... really sweet and nice. It is what Guava smell like. My boyfriend loves it. I love the Guava smell, which is a tropical fruit. I love to eat Guava. Whenever I smell it, I think of the sweet and yummy Guava.
In late Summer or Autumn 2005, YSL also produces a special limited edition of this perfume. You can usually get it from the YSL counter. I bought one in HK. The difference of this special edition is that it has light pink sparkles in the perfume. It is really great for going to parties. Shake it before use and then spray, the lovely sparkles comes out with the perfume. Hmmmm....... nice! Also, the special edition comes with the same colour pink as the perfume velvety pouch with some pink fluff on the edge of opening. There are also one little golden balls on each end of the string for easy closing of the pouch.
This luxurious-look for YSL design is really great. Oh, yes... there is a free pocket-size pink diary too when you purchase it from the counter. The special edition is only available in 50ml.
As you may or may not know, I recently spent a week sunning myself on the French Riviera. I had an amazing time - sun, sea, sand (well, pebbles, but at least I didn't get sandy knickers), cheap alcohol (have equipped myself with some Absinthe - ooh I'm so classy!!), and of course, perfume! I'm totally incapable of going to France and not coming back with at least one bottle of perfume - it hasn't happened to me since I was about 10 years old, and, er, didn't wear perfume. Not particularly surprising then that when I wasn't lazing around by the sea I was almost always to be found gazing adoringly at the various perfume bottles on display in the local shops. Now usually when I go on a perfume spree, I look for new bottles of my old perfumes, but as I still have oodles of my favourites left, I thought I'd treat myself to something new and exciting. After sniffing my way around the whole of Nice, I settled on Baby Doll by Yves Saint Laurent. Shamefully, I was initially drawn to this perfume by the shocking pink box, spinning top-style bottle and the overly girly name. I was a little shocked to see it was by someone as classy as Yves Saint Laurent, as it gave the impression of being a real barbie doll perfume. I gave it a little squirt out of curiosity (and also because I thought the box would look great on my dressing table... shallow? moi?). My first impression was that it did live up to the image conjoured up by its name - on application, this scent is very sweet, but not overpoweringly so. It does settle pretty quickly though, and the sweetness is soon accompanied by warmer scents. Apparently the notes in this perfume are "Grapefruit, Red Currant, Rhubarb, Wild Roses, Freesia, Ginger, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Pomegranate, Grenadine, Cedarwood and Peach", which isn't necessarily the order in which you notice them. To me, the most powerful of these notes are Rose, Grenadine and Cedarwood, but th
en my nose is not particularly well-trained in the field of perfume. This is quite a strong scent - a little really does go a long way, and keeps it at "sexy" level, rather than "people passing out as they walk past you in the street" level. It is also long lasting. As with all perfumes, the top notes become less prominent after a while, but the deeper base notes remain - and they're what is really gorgeous about this perfume to me - they give a sweet as candy scent a sexy edge. As I got this in France, I can't comment first hand on how the prices compare between shops in Britain, but according to www.theperfumeshop.com, 30ml of the Eau de Toilette will set you back £19.99, 50ml £29.00, and 100ml £39.99. There are other products available with the same scent, which include body lotion and shower mousse (ooh!!). All in all, I'd recommend this perfume to any remotely girly girl who likes to think of herself as having a decidedly sexy side (So, me then?!). Definitely one to sniff! Louise (feeling very pink and fluffy!) xxxxxx
When I saw "Baby Doll" at the perfumery for the first time, I was rather sceptical: The hot-pink wrapping and the somewhat kitschy, pink-black-golden flacon – shaped like a spinning-top – let me guess that its scent would be powerful and obtrusive. Despite this first impression, I decided to spray my wrist for testing and was pleasantly surprised. The most outstanding ingredient of "Baby Doll" is grapefruit, mixed with other fruity scents like red currant, peach and rhubarb. It also contains the sweet-smelling oil of roses and freesias, balanced with a spicy hint – but only a hint – of ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and cedar. Together these ingredients create a really unique scent – many perfumes seem very similar to my nose, but the scent of "Baby Doll" is truly distinctive. The scent is light and fresh, but still unmistakenably feminine. Even though it is very sweet, it is never obtrusive or overpowering because of its lightness and fruity fragrance. I think "Baby Doll" is perfect for a young woman looking for a fragrance that is not sportive, but very feminine, without being 'heavy' or too prominent. You can wear it every day, not only on special occasions. The latter is something I would love to do as it absolutely is my favourite perfume – if there wasn't a catch: The price! I had to pay about £ 32 for a flacon of 50ml, so I prefer to use it rather sparingly. PS: If you can't get enough of this fragrance (like me), then let me recommend you the matching body lotion with particles of mother-of-pearl – it has the same enchanting scent and makes your skin sparkle and shine :) There is also a deodorant and shower mousse available.
